Reacting to Sony announcing the WiiU Gamepad

Ойындар

I'm aware I misspoke about Little Big Planet, it's made by Media Molecule, not Japan Studios. Japan Studios is known for Everbody's/Hotshots Sports, Ape Escape, LoccoRoco and the other 3 I mentioned + more. For Transparency I haven't played a lot of those yet. Other than Gravity Rush (Which I love btw,) I didn't own any of their games that were on Vita. I do own all the Hotshots and Patapon Games on PSP, but they are being saved for their PSPMan episodes. Forgive me for my ignorance on that topic.
My point there still stands however, Sony isn't really making any games to compete with the same style Nintendo does anymore, so they're definitely not gonna re-enter the handheld market and try to compete when the Steam Deck has some of their own games on it (and fills that niche by extension) and they have nothing to offer as comparison to attract Switch owners.

I’ve just discovered your channel and what you said about the Vita vs 3DS is so damned true and rarely stated. The amount of quality games that really pushed the 3DS to its limits dwarf what little effort was out in the Vita. Yes, Shin Megami Tensei 4 is phenomenal and we have nothing comparable on the Vita other than a decent updated port of Persona 4 - a friggin’ PS2 game. They could’ve even ported that to the PSP with a few trims and on multiple UMDs. Then there’s the example of Resident Evil Revelations, where part 1 on 3DS looks and plays better than part 2 on the Vita. The Vita game looks almost a generation behind in terms of lighting and detail than the 3DS version. There are quite a few more examples, but that’s the problem with Sony’s approach with the handheld market. They just don’t have the drive to fully compete and so nothing truly distinct will emerge in this arena.

This is probably my favorite comment I've ever received on the channel just because I think you communicated how I feel better than I even could. I didn't even mention it in this video, but I have a history with both Resident Evil Revelations 1 and 2. I grew up playing the 3DS one and absolutely love it. The 3DS version is absolutely gorgeous with some excellent presentational choices not present in any of the other versions, and is an insane technical achievement for the hardware. I have over 200 hours logged into Revelations 2 on Vita despite the fact I absolutely fucking hate that version. Revelations 2 on Vita is such a disaster, playing it unpatched is almost impossible due to how poor the performance is, and even patched some of the later Raid Mode stages run so poorly they're in single digit frame rates. The only way I was ever able to utilize some of the higher fire rate machine guns in that mode was to equip homing ammo custom parts on them. You literally just cannot aim them because of the performance. That port is embarrassing and I cannot believe Sony paid for that one specifically.

@@PSPMan thanks, man. This critique of yours remains my favourite as it addresses some of the more salient observations about just how much was achieved with the 3DS compared to the Vita, despite the sizeable hardware differential. It also cuts to the underlying logic behind the very high probability as to why we’ll never see Sony properly compete against Nintendo on this front. By the way, that’s quite the dedicated backstory regarding RE Revelations 2; you really committed to tolerating the intolerable. I had almost forgotten about the awful, almost game breaking frame rate issues with the Vita port of Revelations 2. So much could be said about the absolute disaster that port ended up being.

9:00 The reason why they have that USB-C Charging port is most likely the upcoming EU-Regulation that requires all portable devices to be equipped with a USB-C Port for charging unless they charge exclusively wireless (like i.e. a Smartwatch). Starting with the 27.12.2024 only devices with a USB-C Charging Port can be sold in the EU, so it wouldn´t make sense to release the PS WiiU Gamepad with a proprietary charger now if they have to change it in a year anyway. And building all worldwide devices the same will be overall cheaper for them.

Thanks, I actually didn't know this. I was aware of the change to removable batteries being mandatory but didn't know anything had happened regarding charging ports. I'm really happy the EU passed that because both of those things have been irritating me for a long time. The last phone I had was a Google Pixel 4A and I had the battery wear down too much, and I only upgraded because there's no way to change the battery unless you remove the screen. It's literally designed so the average person has to take it into a shop to have it fixed. Fucking bullshit.

A video about my experience with the PlayStation brand is in the works. No ETA though, I just have a rough script and some notes right now. That being said, I was a little harsh in this video. I had a very negative experience with the Vita and I just really did not agree with the customer experience Sony was providing for anybody that purchased that console. I got my Vita in 2016 and unfortunately missed the train to purchase a lot of the really notable good exclusives for it like Freedom Wars and Uncharted Golden Abyss while they weren't at ridiculous prices. I also unfortunately missed out on anything in the Trails series, which at the time no one was recommending to me, but I get the feeling those are absolute knockouts for the console. It's also important to note the Vita I have is a 2000, which is the model that Vita enthusiasts don't like. I really don't care for the design of it, so it seems like I really should have gotten a 1000. But yeah I am going to give full thoughts and a video at some point.

The Wii U Gamepad is better than this by far. The comfort of the Gamepad was actually great, this new "thing" looks like it has *negative* comfort.

The PSP-type console is dead and Sony killed it. I can't believe instead of copying the Switch, they copied the Logitech Xbox cloud gaming console that nobody ended up liking. Such a shame that these companies are copying the concept of Nintendo's juggernaut without committing to the hardware.

I liked my Vita but Sony no longer makes games I would want on any of their consoles and there hatred of having backwards compatibilty or caring about the past. I was glad i Picked a 360 over a PS3 just because PS3 could not play PS2 at all in Europe and stick with Xbox since with consoles. Xbox had way better OS than Sony too least they dint do stupid things like have all downloads double file size then it deletes a half of it when installing which all Sony Systens PS3 onwards do. I had to buy a US copy of Drakengard 3 because of that since i used a older model with smaller memmory so was a larger file the HD had it was Digital only in Europe. All the Games the vita would get just moved over to Switch too alot of time because Sony just started hating anything that looked Anime and think all people want is Photo realistic looking games that are more watching cut scenes than actual gameplay. As for this thing I see no Point in it cant even use it for homebrew stuff which is only reason why most would buy such a thing.

Yeah this is exactly how I feel too. Sony got really boring when they stopped being experimental or interesting. Japan's entire thing is video games, and there's a certain amount of artistry that comes out of them when they're developed over there. Completely shirking that despite being based in Japan, is one of the most embarrassing things I've ever seen and the biggest factor as to why I don't have any interest in PlayStation games anymore. I don't even dislike western games or anything, but I usually find they feel bland and unambitious. There's just this spark that is missing from western developed games. I looked at the list of stuff Sony has on Steam, and while I do want to try Horizon and the God of War reboot, I was hoping they had put stuff like gravity Rush or little big planet on Steam but of fucking course not. They just want to be a Microsoft clone and that's fucking lame, that's why they're so pissed over Call of Duty.

They should be porting the PS3 HD collections to PC make way more sense to have those on PC before the latest one of Rachet and Clank. Having Stream workshop on little Big Planet seems like a no Brainer. Vita had the worst memory storage of any thing ever. If you updated a game it added the updates to the save file with no way to seperate them. Yet actual vita save file was usally under 5mb. The Dumb way Sony does Region caused me problems too because I bought a UK copy of Blaz Blue but had to take it back because the Story mode was not on the cart but a free download on PSN. This was a problem because I was using a US account that only lets you download DLC payed or free from US PSN store. I could of got the content if it was a game update though. Vita also only ever lets you have one PSN account on it at anyone time if you want another one on it forces you to wipe the entire memory card. Vita game boxes 50% of time had incorect save memory card file sizes printed.Teslagrad says it needs a 1GB save file which is a larger size than the entire game yet the save file under 5mb. The entire game was on the cart too.
