as a luvie i will tell you honestly, to my knowledge irene has never done that high note live. they all tried it in the studio and surprisingly she was the best, the story goes she had to like bend over and scream to do it and don't think it's been done on stage. however i think wendy has hit those baby whistles toward the end on stage. so glad you reacted to them again and enjoyed these songs! RBB is my fav title track from them.

Yes! To me bad boy is one of the best kpop songs ever, all the layers in the song and their voices matching so well with the track, is absolutely fantastic! Mamamoo is my favorite group, without a doubt, but bad boy is my favorite kpop song

We Reveluvs don’t lie, Irene has never hit that whistle note scream live 😅 But their live vocals are still incredible. RV doesn’t actually stand for Red Velvet it stands for Real Visuals and Real Vocals 😉

RBB lyrics doesn't actually make sense. I think they just wanna flex them vocals 😂 SM is the home of visuals and vocals

Same!!!! As he was talking about that old school R&B vibe and how you never hear it in Kpop...I was like, um, yeah it does. It's only SM that does it though!

you know what's impressive abt red velvet is the harmonisations and layering. Even kpop producers agreed that there's almost little to none kpop groups that have impressive vocal harmonisations like Red velvet. They do not only slay the lead vocals, but those hard hitting background vocals, adlibs and runs are to die for too! You'll have this SATISFYING feeling whenever you listen to what happen in the background . It's like..A LOT OF THINGS THEY ADD which makes that song sounds richer and fuller compared to other kpop groups which kinda feel bland

as some people have said red velvet's career is about NOT doing what the people expect them to and that's what amazing about it IMO nothing is the same every comeback

Whistle notes in Really Bad Boy were ACTUALLY done by Irene, even though it shows Wendy screaming in the shots. Really Bad Boy is a mixing of their two styles, actually. As a huge Reveluv, Irene doesn't (to my knowledge, anyway) hit the whistle note live, she lets the backtracking handle it. I haven't heard a live that she goes at it.

Sad thing was that Really Bad Boy was very hated on for its experimental sound and alot of harmonization. Similar to another title track of them but I don't wanna spoil the song.

But thats whats great about experimental groups like Red Velvet. They don't play it safe a lot of times. They take risks...and thats what leaders do. The risks they take now , even the under-appreciated or even flat out hated risks, will be trends they lay forth that others will copy in the future. I would not have Red Velvet be any other way = ) For myself, I remember not caring for Zimzala when it first dropped , like most ppl. But after a few weeks and bc my friend really liked it, i got used to the sound and NOW if they ever come back to do a concert after covid ends...trust and believe when Zim comes on EVERYONE in the venue will be chanting like a cult along to that chorus bc its iconic at this point!

Yea i still remember all of my friends who are into kpop (but not red velvet) said this song is weird, so they didn't like it. Such a shame tho, it's a great song. People just prefer those basic kpop songs over these kind of experimental stuffs

The position are: Irene: leader, main rapper, lead dancer, sub vocalist, visual Seulgi: main dancer, lead vocalist Wendy: main vocalist Joy: lead rapper, sub vocalist (but is treated as a lead vocalist and sub rapper) Yeri: sub rapper, sub vocalist, maknae (but is treated as a lead rapper and sub vocalist) Some suggestions: Power Up, Peek a Boo and Zimzalabim (they have many more mv but these three are my personal fav in the mv you didn’t watch) And also, Irene and Seulgi are in a sub unit together and they have one mini album and 2 titles tracks: Monster and Naughty.

Red velvet is nation girls , they vocal is also on the top, especially Wendy and seulgi ...

I view RV as being right on the cusp of 2nd vs 3rd; they went 2nd Gen in structure and style (owing to SM's inherent conservatism, but with all of 2nd Gen's "lessons learned", RV avoided many of the pitfalls. Except the literal ones.), Mamamoo, the same year, pioneered the 3rd Gen attitude, structure and style.

"The Blonde is my favourite!" Even though Seulgi is the one with the more nasal tone Austin finds irritating sometimes... but I think it's a really unique tone with that beautiful little vibrato of hers.

Red Velvet is the queen of harmonization, the group who took risk to release a ballad song as their title track. Try to listen to "One of These Nights", this track really flex Red Velvet godly vocals. This song also a very special one because it was dedicated (not officially) to the 300+ students who died in the sinking of Sewol Ferry. You can also react to Milky Way it's a cover song to celebrate BoA 20th Anniversary, it was just released last August and Wendy's first appearance after her accident last December 2019. I can't really choose who's a better group in terms of vocals between Red Velvet and Mamamoo but if individually it is by far Wendy is better over Mamamoo members' vocals. Wendy's vocals is really God sent from heaven 😂

Mamamoo is great, but RedVelvet was always my vocal Queens. Plus they vary their style so much. Just crazy.

I'm really glad you reacted to RV! A lot of people joke about RBB saying it's an intellectual-only song, because it sounds really unusual. You should enjoy Zimzalabim weirdness too then! For live vocals I would recommend Ladies Night (they sang it in a vlive, you can find it on yt if you want), it's a really funky RnB song with lovely adlibs and harmonies, where Wendy really shines. I've seen a lot of reveluv recommending Psycho live version, I think it is really good too, and even though I'm a moomoo first and foremost I think it really deserved the Song of the year award. Keep on the good work and as always, the honest reactions!

Oh Boy (Red Side) & Kingdom Come (Velvet Side) I highly recommend these two songs from them that can show you how amazing they are.

SM = R&B. Just facts.

Red velvet are also part of SM Entertainment which also houses Exo. The company itself prides itself in having a lot of rnb writers and overall rnb vocal training and influence for some of their groups. I would recommend Automatic and Be Natural for more red velvet rnb harmonies

I recommend Be Natural, Automatic, and One of These Nights for the mvs that you will like their vocals more And for the live performances i recommend "The Reve Festival Finale" event where they sang Psycho, Remember Forever (Bside) and Wish Tree. Also their performance on Immortal Songs 2 by Seulgi, Wendy and Joy only

the whistle note/scream (D7 according to wikipedia lol) is by Irene, one of the rappers, but she's an incredible singer as well; I don't think she ever sung it live :( but I'm not sure. One of my favourite live performances from Red Velvet is their performance of Psycho at the ReVe festival finale. I absolutely love bad boy! It has been a bop since it came out! There is a group that I just found called E'last and I am already in love with them and I think you will really love them too! A lot of people say that everyone sounds the same now in kpop, but E'last is definitely something different. They have a more classy and ethereal concept that stands out from the either dark or light/cute concept we see a lot. They only have two mvs out Swear (debut) and Tears of Chaos (1st comeback)! They aren't well known so there probably won't be much requests, but I really hope you look into them!!❤

What I love about Red Velvet and their vocals is the extent they use all the additional vocals (adlibs, harmonies etc) to effectively act like another layer of the instrumental. I don't think I know many other groups that do it quite like they do.

I honestly think you would LOVE "One of these Nights" it's musically beautiful and their voices are superb.

Speaking of SM groups, I'm actually surprised you haven't heard SHINee yet. They're well known for their vocals and harmonies as well as their difficult choreographies. If you ever decide to react to them, their debut is Replay and their latest song was Countdown (a surprise song for fans). Their latest comeback with all 5 members was Get the Treasure and their latest comeback as 4 was Our Page, dedicated to their member who passed away.

Red Velvet is one of the most vocally satisfying groups and I'm glad you'll be checking more of their perfs soon!

For the live versions I would recommend their videos where they are singing live over the radio without the dancing. You can usually tell by the thumbnails. These would be KZread videos from MBCkpop, SBS Radio, KBS Kool FM, KBS Kong. Search those same channels for some really great Mamamoo performances as well. In Mamamoo's performance of Egotistic on KBS Kong the host starts dancing and Wheein struggles so hard to hold it together from laughing throughout the entire song.

If you want to hear their great harmonies.. Try reacting to Automatic and Be Natural. Another genre that you will love for sure!

One of the things that I really love in stanning Red Velvet is their songs. Title tracks are so good but when you start to go deeper in their bsides, you will in a world of different genres, harmonies and their range in singing.

I think you would enjoy the performance of Red Velvet's vocal line in Immortal Songs 2. They sang Goodbye and it is really mesmerizing, their harmonies are out of the world.

Bad Boy is one of Red Velvet's most iconic songs. There is an english version as well. Try to listen to their B-Sides because those are gems! Wendy is RV's vocal powerhouse. Look her up and her duet with John Legend (Written in the Stars).

Also May i suggest that after you watch a guide to Red Velvet, you also view another mini doc on YT about them called 'from failure group to nation's pride' by the user Revels. It's really really good and its about the history of their forming and how they went from bottom to the top.
