@@Schnort trans masculine I'm physically transitioning in a typically masculine direction and I prefer some masculine things (ie pronouns) over gender neutral things. Basically I like and want some of the male characteristics without seeing or presenting myself as a male, because that's how I see myself in my head and what I feel most comfortable with. Like for instance, I'm a Furry, and I tend to use my Fursona, Ridley, to express my gender. Ridley has a deeper and more masculine voice (I have a high pitched androgynous voice), a flat chest, bottom growth, athletic masculine build (think runner/agility), he's tall (6'10"), and he uses he/him pronouns primarily. What I project onto him as a secondary image of myself has helped me figure out what I like in a way that's less confused by my agender identity. And having the ability to draw him and get art of him has helped me cope with my dysphoria, and I am excited to be able to better represent him post-transition in costume. Fursonas help Furries be more comfortable with who they are and visualize what they like about themselves more clearly, and when you're able to get a costume (called a fursuit), it can help you feel more comfortable in your own skin, too, because you connect better with that image of yourself, and so do other people. Fursuiting helped me find myself, and it helps comfort me. And subconsciously building Ridley's character to match who I want to be helps me work out my self esteem issues and be kinder to myself, and helps me figure out where I want to be so I can be who I am comfortable being.

  • @Schnort

@@NyoomMonster I've never considered fursuiting in this kind of way. I usually associate it with gross things because that's the stereotype. Thanks for the explanation, and I am glad that you have found a way to take care of yourself.

(Excuse me for giving my opinion randomly hahaha) I feel like for names, it's really about the person who has the name, so Dylan can be as masculine as you feel. It's like if someone's name is "CQ"; "CQ" can be as masc/feminine/ neutral as the individual who's carrying the name. A man's (whose identity & expression are masculine in this example) name could be "Raspberry" and that name could be masculine as f*ck because it is attached to that man. (Sorry about randomly replying 4 months later fjdnfksnkfms. Take care, Dylan!)

In German the Praying Mantis is normally female. We call them “Gottesanbeterin” and “-in” is the female ending (literally translated the word means: “Female God worshipper”) and the males are called like this too. So if we are talking about a male Praying Mantis, we have to say: “eine männliche Gottesanbeterin” what literally means: “A male female God worshipper”.

@@SH-ty9ex Yeah, the reason is, that “der Halter” (the holder) is a masculine word. So Büstenhalter is masculine too. Another famous example: “das Mädchen” (the girl) is neuter and not feminin. The reason for this is, that Mädchen originally was a diminutive of “die Magd” (the maid) and every diminutive is neuter. But it’s still funny.

Just to explain the “male sense of humour” As kids we always heard adults, specifically our dads, saying women are not funny and as a kid you don’t understand it’s just sexism and I was one of those kids who went around saying I have “a male sense of humour”. It’s stupid but it’s not kids’ fault for saying it. It’s adults, who make it seem like women can’t be funny.

The bullshit goes the full way around. Boys would often compliment me on being funny just because I had a slightly faster wit than them. I could never be "hot" but being "witty" was the next best thing. It was always said as if they were shocked which made it a very weak compliment.
