The TAMI show is the first music concert to be put in theaters nationwide. TAMI stands for Teenage America Music international. He did four songs he came out with "Out of Sight," then went into "Prisoner of love" then "Please Please Please" and ended up with Nigh train. He killed the show the Rolling Stones didn't even want to come out after his performance. watch the DVD The TAMI show for the full concert.

At 16:14 James is about to do a split but actually almost falls. But he recovers it well. I saw this show at the Lincoln Theatre in Tampa Florida with my Mom as a wide-eyed 8 year old. After James finished, the entire audience got up and left. Literally no one stayed for The Stones.

No one and I mean no one could throw down like James Brown. He had that crowd in a frenzy and he kept cranking the energy higher and higher. Even the mess up on the 2nd splits attempt looked cool because he kept rolling and played it straight to a push up. I get exhausted just watching the performance. But you know who I felt a little bad for? The Stones, they had to follow this. I read Mick Jagger was watching this in the wings, turned to his manager/agent and laconically asked "How the (bleep) are we supposed to follow this up?" Keith Richards later admitted the biggest mistake that they ever made was letting James Brown perform before them. Not being disrespectful, the Stones were big fans of James Brown but even they were left in awe at the showstopping ability of The Godfather.

I read that Keith Richards recalled seeing James Brown and Co. perform before they closed and saw that it was a big mistake to let that happen. Nobody ever saw anything like that set. But in spite of the star-studded mix, it might have been just out of the producers' comfort zone to let a black act close the night in those times. Another thing I came away with watching the whole T.A.M.I. Show is that the Stones seeing them perform must have lit a fire under their butts to step it up with songwriting. They would have gone the way of half the British Invasion otherwise. That Mick Jagger co-produced the JB biopic confirms for me the Stones owe him their careers from that night on.

When he started his dance some was choreographed the rest was improvised he wanted his improv in sync with the music as if they were one he didn't want to detract from the performance by vocal cues to the band. he wanted seamless performances. I saw interviews with the band members I think on MTV they tried to get all living members that played with him I think when Living in America came out. No, he wasn't. Larry Graham, who created the slap bass/plucking and thumping style of bass playing, wasn't in James' band. He had several bassists over the years, most notably Bootsy Collins, who later went on to Parliament/Funkadelic and his own solo career, but Bootsy didn't come to JB until about 4 years later, as this show was 1965.

The decsion for James Brown to go on before the Rolling Stones was not the Stones' decison - it was the producers of the show! When Mick Jagger saw James Brown in performance, the LAST THING he wanted to do was follow his act! However, the fact that James Brown was Black and the Rolling Stones White meant, at that time, the Stones had to close the show, for they always save "the best" for last!

Here's the lyrics to the first song James Brown performed "Outta Sight" but I don't think he sang half of what the lyrics described. Lol. Out Of Sight It's a celebration baby, step out with me. Draped in your finest clothes and accessories. I notice you've been focused on the stress of the week. But it's Friday tonight. Spend the night out with me. Let's hit the party tonight. That will be out of sight. No matter where we decide, it's gon' be on tonight. You look you're ready and right. You showed me out of sight. We're coming home late tonight. We gonna do it right right. We'll do it right right. Our hands are sky high. From left to the right. Don't look that the time. Just let it fly by. We live the good life. And we'll do it right right. We'll do it right right. Ain't too fast or slow, it's just enough to get down. Might be from the country but were going to town. This weekend we can freak a leek all on the floor. First get low, then come close. Let the music control, oh. This is the last call. Fill up your glass ya'll. We'll dance until they play the last song. It's the end of the night. Now it's just you and I. It's time for us to take this party back home. Let's hit the party tonight. That will be out of sight. No matter where we decide, it's gon' be on tonight. You look you're ready and right. You showed me out of sight. When we go home late tonight. Girl we gon do it right right. Until the daylight. We'll do it light right. Yes, we'll do it all night. Don't look at the time. Just let it fly by. Yes, we'll live the good life. And we'll do it right right. Then we say bye bye. Then we say bye bye Bye bye Bye bye Bye bye. Kisha Cantrell I just found these lyrics, that look like someone actually transcribed the video, so to me, they are closer to what I’m hearing: You got your high-heeled sneakers on Slip-in mules You got your high-heeled sneakers on And your slip-in mules You're more than alright You know you're out of sight You got a shapely figure mama That's keepin' me uptight You got a shapely figure mama And keep me uptight You're too much You know you're out of sight Hey, the way you do the things you do The way you kiss me too The way you do the things you do The way you kiss me too A heart delight, that's what you are You know you're out of sight Ho, hey, hey You got a sweet disposition Ho, you're always right You got a sweet disposition You know you're always right You know just what you're doin' baby You know you're out of sight

I don't CARE about *THE BAND*. I care about *JAMES BROWN, BOBBY BYRD, BOBBY BENNETT, and LLOYD STALLWORTH...THE FAMOUS FLAMES!!* With the EXPLOSIVE SHOW, that they put on, they could have been backed up by a HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND...and they STILL would have *STOLEN THE SHOW !!! * *JAMES BROWN* is in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. *The FAMOUS FLAMES* are ALSO in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. *The BACKUP BAND AIN'T!!!* If you went to see The Temptations, would you be watching THEM ? Or their backup band ??

Scott here: I guess that's just where we differ. Do me a favor and watch this video about Carol Kaye, who was the bass player in the Wrecking Crew and come back and tell me the band doesn't matter. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qYOMqtqCqpOcZco.html

@@MusicallyChallenged Of course the band matters, I agree there. But it's the vocal group JAMES BROWN & THE FAMOUS FLAMES that are the MAIN FOCUS. These young "Funksters" who are too young to remember when James Brown once sang in a VOCAL GROUP are totally IGNORING the incredible show that THE FLAMES are putting on ....just to focus on the MUSICIANS behind them...and , good as they are...It's JAMES & THE FLAMES that are the STAR ACT. Time for these young kids to do some research into R&B Music History !! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Famous_Flames
