It also always strikes me how _DIEGO_ (of all people) is so quick to notice. Like, right away, he nudges Sid to shush. I feel like that was the start of his turnaround; Manny saving his life more or less completed it, and possibly the baby walking to him with his first steps, reinforced it.

  • @TimberlakeTigerGirl

Well if you think about it, when Manny confronted the two trying to kill Sid, he specifically says he doesn't like beings who kill for pleasure. Not beings that kill in general, just those that don't warrant it. That implies that Manny knows the hunters can't truly be blamed for killing his family. Because unlike the tigers who were trying to kill for revenge and the rhinos were trying to kill for self satisfaction. The humans were only hunting for survival; for food and for materials to keep them warm and make weapons out of. Manny knows that to hunt for survival isnt a malicious thing to do; the world is kill or be killed. And humans back then weren't at the top of the food chain so they had to be very vigilant in order to survive. Manny probably doesn't hold a grudge against the humans for merely surviving. Obviously he's in pain over the fact that his family was lost but a group of tigers could do the same thing and Manny would probably feel the same way. Besides, he knows Roshan's tribe wasn't the ones to kill his family so why take his pain out on them? Thats like saying a poc shouldn't help a white orphan find their family because a family member was killed in a racist attack.

One thing that is really dark but was confirmed by the movie’s staff was that Manny was going the wrong way of the migration in the beginning of the movie as a way to die on his own, after losing his family. This and other movies by BlueSky are big here in Brazil because of their Brazilian director, Carlos Saldanha. My old nanny used to work for him and my therapist knows him and he seems like a really cool guy! Ice Age was basically his life’s work and it’s really sad that Disney ended up buying it and milking it for stuff like the new spinoff that just came out focused on a character from the third movie, which was terrible. They bought all their IPs and BlueSky ended up having to shut down. You can tell that the movie has a lot of heart and I’d also really recommend the movie Rio from the studio, that also was directed by Carlos Saldanha, it also has a lot of heart and is a love letter to Rio de Janeiro, where Carlos and myself are from! Don’t watch its sequel though as it’s not as good and a bit all over the place Thank you so much for watching Ice Age! It means a lot to me and other Brazilians!

Manny truly does have a lot of emotional depth. To go from a happy loving husband & father, to grieving the loss of his family to the point of depression & suicide, only to overcome all of that to save an innocent sloth, and an innocent human baby. Bond with said sloth, baby, and even a sabertooth tiger. Heal from his grief and depression. And reunite that adorable human baby with its grieving human father. Saving another family from suffering in the way he suffered. Which is all the more incredible and astounding when you realize it was humans who killed Manny’s wife & child. Yet that never stopped him from doing the right thing.

This movie is so amazing, especially two things I like the most: First: Manny is such an incredible character: humans killed his wife and his child and he still brings a human child back to the father, just fantastic! And second: when the father gives the necklace of his wife to Manny. He gives the only thing that reminds him of his wife to the one who has brought him the most important. I don't know, but even as a kid I always found these two facts magical and just wonderful! But one thing makes me really sad, everytime I'm thinking about it (little SPOILER for the next movies): Manny won't wear the necklace in the other movies :( If he would, that would make my second favourite scene much more heartwarming!!

It really shows the strength Manny has to forgive the humans for what they took from him, as well as the kindness the man showed to spare what his people thought were just dumb animals. As for Diego, this journey showed him the camraderie with creatures he originally saw as mere enemies or food had more loyalty and trust in him than his own pack who were willing to turn on him or cast him out for failing to kill an innocent child not responsible for actions against Diego's kind.

I forgot how good and funny this movie was, I low-key shunned it because my mother wouldn't stop watching it. It drove me nuts, max volume too. Very annoying but I have recovered. Yay. I love the togetherness of it all, and the style is cool, sometimes ice looks cheap, but the had layers with distortion. And it's a kids aimed movie, they don't have to try that hard, but they do and it's dope. I'm looking forward to Anastasia, NT.Brush can hopefully tell me how they got the jewelry to sparkle like it does. 🤔 Recommends.. The original Brave Little Toaster

James: "wait did Diego really just DIE" Me remembering the next 4 movies that came after this. with Diego haha Anyone else get some serious Shrek vibes at the beginning? Sid being Donkey, running from danger, follows a more intimidating character around for protection. Even though that character clearly wants to be left alone., and Diego being Puss N' Boots, meant to be an antagonist but switched over to the good side midway through, if we include the Shrek sequel. I never noticed till I saw this reaction.. .odd
