I reacted to the full Hamilton Musical over on patreon. Its a whopping 3.5 hr long video! Absolutely phenomenal show and that is coming from someone who isn't a huge fan of musicals. I loved every bit of it and will be highly recommending it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet 😂

The spit was both Jonathan Groff being a spitter on stage & him drinking a bunch of water & holding it in his mouth as a nod to how King George literally went mad. There are accounts of him spitting & foaming at the mouth as he lost his mind. Brilliant stuff on Groff's part, imo.

Also, the first row is usually the "splash zone." Because the actors need to project to a whole theater.

The spit was definitely a choice. As was the lack of blinking. The madness of King George and all that.
Jonathan Groff has said he just salivates a lot when singing and it fit the character so he let the slobber fly 😂 I also love that Lin Manuel Miranda watched this with Prince Harry, King George’s 6 times great grandson 🤣

Wow that is a cool fun fact
Voice teacher here. For anyone interested, this form of singing requires such breath control from the diaphragm and relaxation in the jaw and tongue that saliva naturally accumulates in the mouth. Swallowing requires contraction to move things down the throat, which is the opposite direction that the breath and sound are moving. Humans can't swallow and speak at the same time, so performers with text that requires a lot of breath control will often spit by accident. Shakespearean actors do it a lot. And this type of British accent puts all the vowel sounds very far forward in the mouth, ("bek" for "back") so that's where the saliva goes, too. Jonathan Groff is famous for his "groff sauce" when he's on stage. 😂 Every moment of this performance is a deliberate choice, executed flawlessly. Groff is insanely talented. It's one of my favorite Broadway performances of all time. My favorite part of the character is his walk. Groff did that because his original crown was so damn heavy that if he didn't keep his head perfectly level and still while walking, the weight of the crown would tip him over!

This was super interesting, thanks for sharing!
Definitely the comedic relief of the show. You should watch the entire thing. It's incredible. And I feel like if he wiped his spit it would've taken people out of the show. He stuck with it. He's known to spit haha.
King George is easily the best part of Hamilton. Loved revisiting his scenes through this vid. Good stuff, bud!

His delivery of "I wasn't aware that was something a person could do" is incredible
I always made the joke that front row seats come with "Splash Zone" warnings. Makes you wonder what singing in the car looks like. He would need windshield wipers on the inside.

"What's with the spit?" King George III actually did go mad late in his reign. Jonathan is just foreshadowing.
You are aware democracy comes from Ancient Greece right? It wasn't common for tousands of years but it wasn't a new idea, it was most common for "democracy" to exist in more hidden forms like merchant republics or clans etc.
I need the whole Hamilton reaction 😩
AS KIng George starts to go crazy, he'd spit and foam at the mouth, so that why he does it.
The Spit is B/C King G III became mad and would foam and spit at and around the mouth. Quite beautiful representation really.
I highly recommend watching him as the Mindhunter in the tv series of the same name.
This guy didnt know democracy existed before America?! Just because the King couldn't conceive of it doesnt mean it never existed.

On top of that, what the USA does it absolute pointless even counterproductive. It's more about to get rid of a good ruler than to get rid of a bad one (you got way more of those anyway). Also: just changing the poster girl means pretty much nothing for the politicis in a system like the USA.

@@miriamweller812 The president used to actually mean a lot, it's changed quite a lot over the life of the country.
He’s my favorite part of Hamilton
Enunciation can cause spit. Stage actors, and especially Shakespearian actors, often spit. Al Pacino was known for this when he performed on stage, including his role as Richard III. I was in the front row, so I experienced it first-hand. See Hamilton if you haven't!!
This was my favourite part of the show. I'm a bit old-school and this is the only traditional theatre style song
"President John Ædams" - King George III apperantly -
No. There had been other democracies before America so people did change leaders. I believe 1 even changed their leader every year
I need more reactions to hamilton PLEASE 😭
you forgot when he comes back in the reynolds pamphlet!

Ok, I'll watch Hamilton again.
He's not pretentious, he's an English king! Did you not hear how Queen Liz talked? And Charlie's the same.
Someone stepping away from power didn't happen first in America, tons of societies had the same thing going. Whole basis of modern political science comes from Ancient Greece where it was practiced, and Aristotle wrote "Politics"
The reasons for the spit was on purpose, king George was going insane
Crazy eyes. Spit and drool. *HEAVY SIGH* King George went mad. (That’s why he’s referred to as Crazy King George) He’s portraying a king/character who went M A D. A S I N: I N S A N E. 🤪 The spit is spot-on. (Did no one study American history in high-school?) 🤦🏻♂️
Well from a Brit he has the British 🇬🇧 upper class snobbery to a tee. I loved this , he is clearly theatre 🎭 trained. The spitting is pronunciation darling 🤣 one criticism not mad enough for George the 3rd 🥉but important to note Parliament run the war not the king. We would rather blame the French blockade
Please just remember its King George III....lol.
Athens.
Democracy was invented by ancient Greeks, Roma was a republic for centuries l, San Marino is the oldest republic that still exists nowadays... no, THAT was not the first time that something lokenthis happened.
I love sweetheart the French revolution happened before America It was not the 1st
Yeah, the spit was what King George supposedly did, and KG was kind of looney too..
5:10 you insulted all the english people in your audiance, good job
