Gackt probably has one of the best clean singing voices in the world in my opinion.

Fun fact!. Returner is sung from the perspective of a samurai's wife waiting for him to come home from battle, but as you can see he doesn't quite make it lol.

It's so weird watching you react to Gackt! He was so legendary when I was in high school... if you were into Japanese music at all between 1999 and 2005, he was always one of your first, like, 5 artists. :D I have a ton of positive nostalgia about Gackt. ^_^

I have been waiting for you to react to Gackt for a long time, I have never clicked on a video soo fast! Gackt is indeed a very talented an amazing person, he's an excellent actor who has been in a Hollywood movie called bunraku. I would definitely encourage you to look at more of his music and some of his acting roles. Also I laughed a bit when you said he was a vampire because he use to tell everyone he was one and that he's over 200 years old lol, explains alot!

You should watch the movie Moonchild. It has Gackt and Hyde from L’arc en Ciel in it. They are vampires... it’s good stuff

His voice sounds so clean and nice because he's actually classically trained ^^ Same with all of his music playing abilities. As for that mic stand in Redemption. Yes, he did actually use that. He used it for that song in his Diablos tour. It's worth a look~ And if you want to see some of his acting, one of his best movies is called Bunraku. It's an incredible movie! I'm glad you enjoyed it!! ^^

Yes it is Gackt, also "Gakuto". Yes, Gackt started with the wagakki parts in jrock, yes, I was reading that in a Japanese Magazine the other day. He is also a designer and a voice actor. He plays Japanese traditional instruments too, and speaks English, French, Corean and Chinese also. You should check him on Bunraku, the movie. He is going to do a World Tour this and next year.

Redemption is Hell of a song,I love it so much,I am literally addicted to this song.

Gackt writes and composes nearly all of his songs; if memory serves there are only 3 songs in his entire catalog he didn't write himself. As far as playing on the tracks he does play some but his band plays on the tracks for the studio recordings. And the wiki page you were looking at is in need of update because he recently released his 48th single "Original Sin". Which was used as the opening theme to the first 12 episode,s and the closing for the last 12 episodes of the anime Trickster. He also provided the voice for the main villain of that series by the way. I recommend checking his IMDB page if you want to checkout any of his acting roles.

Gackt was also in the movie "Bunraku" which is an American film (I believe), but it's not a Japanese movie! He plays a samurai in it! It's a great movie!

If I'm not mistaken Gackt did play a vampire in a movie called Moon Child.

Gackt is a very gifted artist. He's fucking amazing and can does many things on music and acting. His live concerts are amazing with great theatrical performances! He also acting in the movie bunraku with demi moore!

Man, Gackt brings back memories, lol. If you like the combination of traditional Japanese music with j-rock etc. you'll love Kagrra,. They've already disbanded, but they did something called Neo-Japanesque, which is exactly that, the mixture of traditional with new. Their songs are just beautiful. Uzu, Sakura Zukiyo and Shiroi Uso are some of their best.

Gackt is one of those singers either you get him or you don't. Admittedly I had trouble appreciating his music for a long time, but nowadays I enjoy it quite a bit.

MacRyanMac, regarding your question about if he plays those instruments during recording, the answer is it depends on the need on the recording itself, there are songs where he needs to play the guitar, like for example, one of his guitarist is also his violinist, so IF needed, he plays the guitars on recording while his guitarist plays the violin (same song). though for the piano part, all of them are played by him, because piano is Gaku's major 🤗

I know this video is old but I keep coming across your reaction videos (MIYAVI most recently) but your reactions are so cute, as in a child seeing something new for the first time and it’s opening up a new world for them. Lol It’s giving me nostalgia of when I first heard of “Gahkto”-san back in ‘03. He was such an enigma back then that one of his (non existent) profiles stated he was 300 years old and I was absolutely convinced he was, like a vampire. He really hasn’t aged since I first heard of him. Only thing that makes me eh about him is that he was my ex’s favorite singer but...eh. I forgot how operatic his voice is. I’d recommend more groups/singers but you seemed to have covered a lot already. Didn’t see FEMM (far east mention mannequins) but I’m sure you came across them in the last few years.

Finally!!! Gackt is viewed as a GOD in the Entertainment industry here in Japan. I'm very glad that you reacted to his music. GACKTO-SAN IS GOD!!!!

Redemption is from the soundtrack to Final Fantasy VII Dirge of Cerberus. Gackt was the inspiration for the character Genesis from that game and Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core.

Vanilla is 9+ years old. It was sadly reuploaded. It's in the Returner Yami No Shuuen video.(first one,samurai) Crown, him, and international merch rights had it out, taking down A LOT of his best songs.

He was the first one to experiment with traditional instruments and rock, also he is still using that mic stand and Vanilla is way older hahaha You should see his lives videos, some songs when he plays instruments live are Sayonara, Mirror and he plays the Shamisen (like a japanese banjo) in the intro of the live version of OASIS. I don't know if ill get a reply or if someone else already posted this but there's some fun facts! The Vanilla video as someone else said the video is about 18 years old. (It will turn 18 on 8/11/17 actually lol) But if you're a fan of Final Fantasy (Specifically FFVII), it is known his hair was styled like Clouds, since he is a huge fan of the series! In Redemption (which was also a song for the Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core game for PSP) the outfit he is wearing was actually the outfit worn by Genesis from the game (The Character who was actually modeled off Gackt!) You can actually find photos of it online ^^ Again I don't know if anyone else had mentioned this but, yeah! :D

For the Samurai - Returner is a song for a TV-drama called Fūrin Kazan - where he played a samurai. And I had to smile when you said he's n Vampire, as he played together with hyde (leadsinger of L'Arc~en~Ciel) in a Vampire movie called Moonchild. And for some great sining of Gackt and traditional music please check out "Shima Uta" sung by Gackt.

Final Fantasy's characters were inspired in GACKT

On top of the music videos, I watched concerts from him and saw him piano and kicking ass playing every instrument of a band. I also saw him playing some shamisen. Apparently he plays more music instruments. The music video "Redemption" made me an instant Gackt fan. The second music video I saw from him was Returner. Apparently "Returner" has been beating records in Japan music history. When I first saw one of his concerts, the crowd kept yelling his name before he got on stage. Then it was that he is very famous in Japan. Gackt is crazy talented and has a lot of discipline. He is very serious about intense regular physical training and staying flexible (splits and stuff...). He often appears on Japanese TV shows and always wins their games. On KZread you can find some TV shows he appeared on and even if you don't understand Japanese, you will have an idea of the physical stuff he's up to. It really shows how fit and flexible he is. He got has a 2nd degree black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do (a Korean martial art that is somewhat similar to one of the karate styles (kyokushan, etc...)). This is Gackt!

Vanilla is soooo soo old song, but its amazing.

I'm probably the only person who's going to request this but, can you react to the now disbanded "KAGRRA,"? songs that I suggest are: "Utakata" "Uzu(渦)" "Tsuki ni Murakumo Hana ni Ame" If you do, I want to look at it as a tribute to the vocalist of the group. His birthday is on Dec. 7th, unfortunately he passed away. So if you happen to make a video for Kagrra, I can't wait to see it, and I feel like it will bring back nostalgic memories for some of us Visual Kei fans. :) I just found you today and I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS.

Gackt's voice is my favourite out of all the singers I know~ And his live performances are amazing too! If you want to react to more of his songs, I recommend "P.S. I Love You" and "Arrow". "Kimi Ga Matte Iru Kara" is also really good, you might want to check out the unplugged version with English subtitles. :)

He has a full band as back-up. You need to check his live videos to see them clearly, but the entire band is in videos like Redemption and Black Stone. I personally love the guitarist Chachamaru and the violinist Yuu. There's also a clip of Gackt and Yuu playing a violin duet.

He does use that microphone, but typically only for that song. He has two personal band mates named You and Chachamaru that play his strings, then he typically hires out for people to fill the rest of the instruments. Gotta say, he’s my favorite J-Rock artist

The second song, Redemption, was a theme for a Final Fantasy game! It's from Final Fantasy 7 - Dirge of Cerberus! There's another song by him in the game called "Longing" (I think so, I haven't listened to his music for a while q.q)

Gackt is great, and if you ever decide to do a continuation of this video (because with Gackt, there is so much going on lol) I would suggest: Solo Music videos: Ghost, Hakuro, and Setsugekka are my favourites, alongside Mizerable, White Lovers and Episode.0. You might also be interested to know that aside from Malice Mizer, he also participated in/created a band called YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz, for which I would recommend you definitely at least check out their song "The End of the Day." Lastly, Gackt (Gakuto Kamui) actually is the 'voice template' for his very own Vocaloid, known as Gakupo Kamui (Lmao) You weren't lying when you said that he does everything, it would take a few videos to cover even half of what he has done since his debut!

love gackt! he is living in japan like an aristocrat... he is damn wealthy and for sure one of the person of the planet i respect the most! his voice is so unique and flexible he is able to sing every genre.. if you compare it for example with hamasaki ayumi her live voice and the record one are totaly diffrent! and gackts totaly not! his acting performances are also damn good but at the most part he plays the bad guys...he does training every day for hours! as he is damn photogenic so he used also to be "the most beatiful face in japan" he also likes japanese comedy and also can joke within variety shows ! there is no second person like him for sure! he is also fluent in korean, chinese, french, english, spanish! with a alot of effort he is doing he is used to be an icon or an exmple of being an"perfect human"

The band which gackt was a member of a long time ago called malice mizer is pronounced malice "mee-ser"! the origin of the word comes from miserable (i would assume french or german...but in english its pronounced quite similar)

I think Returner was the first song I heard by Gackt and I absolutely fell in love with his music and him ;D Edit: Also that look is from a historical drama that I'm currently watching (for the sake of watching him, because is a very very slow drama). I think it is called Fuurin Kazan

Oh man... Gackt was my teen playlist lol. The main thing I listened to before getting into kpop in my late teens (im now 23) I haven't listened to these songs in so long. But yeah I fell in love with his voice, his aesthetic, and the emotions in his music. He describes himself as a samurai vampire lol so theres a mix of gothic rock and traditional sounds in his music. My personal favourite song from him is Setsugekka End of Silence. But I have so many songs I love from him.

I recommend one of their two most famous songs "One Night Carnival" or "Koibito" then a more dynamic song like "Delicate ni Kisu Shite" or "Oretachi ni ha Doyoubi Shika Nai" their instrumental "Asayake Banzai" (there's a really clear and pretty live video here on YT), and maybe some of their slapstick humor, like their cover of "YATTA!" Their singer SHOW-yan has had other character projects, like DJ OZMA and Yazima Beauty Salon, which are even heavier on the comedy element and are more pop than anything. Yazima Beauty Salon even has a movie. This band's 20 anniversary is this year so I am seeing them live 3 times this fall/winter. hahahaha PS- please enjoy their pompadour hair

That's crazy!

Nice to see Gackt finally get covered, Japanese Rock essential. Since they released a new album recently, this is the perfect chance to recommend Sukekiyo. Their songs En, Hidauta and elizabeth addict live would be the perfect choices.

I wrote some of that article on wikipedia :D so interesting to see someone actually reading it.

Gackt is the best japonese singer, I really like him , you reacted to vanilla, a very interesting fact is that Tetsuya Nomura the creator de final fantasy is a fan of Gackt so much so that Tetsuja created the character of Genesis Rhapsodos based in the look of the singer, but also Gackt has sing several song for the videogame ,and was the dubbing actor for the character of genesis.

Gackt was in a comic book action type American movie Bunraku with actors like Woody Harrilson which I recommend you watch.
