The Britishness of this is deliberate, as the song dates back to the whaling ships of old. From the Celtic drums Layne was doing, the bodhran - an Irish hand drum - to the English accents of Eli , Bucky and Jose, and the "three sheets to the wind". and the "piss off". Very British expressions. Eli and Bucky are both voiceover actors. And that was simply drunken dancing.

The “drunk” is Bucky, who used to be a member of the group wayyyy back in the day when they were still 4:2: Five. He actually sings really well, and he’s super funny. Plus he sometimes helps Geoff with choreography. I’m with Mom-I have a “mom crush” on Jose and Geoff as well (and all the other guys-can I adopt Cesar??). Speaking of… did you notice Cesar Twerking while Bucky was doing his River Dance? LOL. Great reaction, both of you!!

I like to think the song here was how the pirate characters _thought_ they sounded singing all night, and the singing in the epilogue was how they _actually_ sounded. 😆 The verses are about punishing a malingering sailor who's too sloshed to work. Aboard a tall ship in the Age of Sail, being able to rely on your crewmates to do their jobs without fail was a matter of life and death. It strikes us as funny now because they sound like relatively harmless pranks, but (for example) the ship's boats would have been kept partly filled with water when not in use so the boards wouldn't shrink and cause leaks when they were needed, so being dumped into one and left there to sober up would be pretty uncomfortable and possibly even dangerous. Allegedly, 'the captain's daughter' was a euphemism for a cat o' nine tails, and 'put him into bed' meant 'lash him until he was bedridden.'

It is a shanty. It was a work song, with however many verses needed to get the work done. It's literally the kind of song that you and your mates can sing all night at your local pub. It's originally a British shanty (although the Royal Navy never used shanties. All of their work would have been done to drumbeat).

And just think 30+ years ago this a popular camp song

I'm from the Midwest, so there are almost certainly nuances that I'm missing, but in general terms I think the specific British accent that Eli used for his "make him listen to VoicePlay" comment is (or is intended to be; Americans often struggle to get the details right for British accents) an urban lower-class accent from late in the age of sail, and thus became associated with blue-collar workers, notably including dock workers and sailors. It eventually evolved into Cockney, pretty much the British equivalent of America's hip-hop accent; but I think it is also loosely related to the standard "talk like a pirate" speech pattern. In England these would be considered "southern" accents (as compared to, say, a York accent, which would be "northern"). RP is also southern but is very different, due to its upper class origins.
