Reacting To DESTRUCTION of GENERAL LUNA After SUPER TYPHOON ODETTE

Everything we know is gone. Reacting to the destruction of General Luna, the life hub of Siargao island is a painful experience. But then we see some hope too!

I agree with your decision of staying because you are able to have more interesting contents, watch things back again and learn from it. You have the ability to make the world aware of what has gone through Siargao. So maybe you can add a donation button for us who would like to share a little bit of our blessings to share with you and to the community that needs help. It’s brings satisfaction to us knowing we did something to help the island

Apparently, the owners of Las Palmas and Spotted Pig also had something in common - they did something right from the get go! Most of the structures of their businesses survived and they still had running water, had back-up generators and more. So this could be a lesson for the whole island, structures do still survive with the right materials (I'm talking about the businesses though) and a little more preparedness. And if these businesses can survive, they can then have more resources to help the other poor families on the island too, not only in terms of material and stable roofs over their heads but also maintain a job working for them... But who am I to judge, all natural disasters are horrible and sometimes it can be luck of the draw. Still, I guess it doesn't really hurt to be prepared too. With that said, hang in there Sasha, Jay and Story! Coming from the facebook of Ate Jane and your supporters a lot of people are donating to send help! Love you guys and love watching your vlogs, you all are such inspirations! Please continue to stay safe and we will help in the way we can!

Glad that u decided not to leave... leaving is not really an answer.. God has a purpose for you why He let you experience that kind of calamity, and maybe that is to help the locals there.. and maybe by helping them, help you decide to stay in the place even more...❤❤❤

It’s heartbreaking to see the destructions brought by the recent typhoon. Be strong. Don’t lose hope. Filipinos are resilient people, be one of us. Siargao is a beautiful island. We will build the island again, shoulder to shoulder.

Bohol was hit worse because the storm made landfall on the island at night. People couldn't see what was happening.

We were also hit by the typhoon in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental. It's even worst because at 6am on December 18, after Odette left our city, flash flood immediately took place. Evacuation places were very far, the waters were so fast. But we thank God we survived both the typhoon and the flood.

BBC news correspondent Howard Johnson travelled to Siargao in an International Federation of the Red Cross plane and sent out news reports 4 to 5 days after the typhoon hit, which were lead news items in the UK. His reports showed how extensive the devastation was and the logistical difficulties in getting the help needed to a remote island. Emergency personnel had been deployed, but much more help would be needed along with essential supplies and he said that aid and supplies were getting through, but they weren't getting through quickly enough. Getting electricity restored was a massive problem and skilled people would be needed to restore the grid.

Your an amazing family and you will get through this. Just take those tiny moments (the sunsets, the passionfruit, running water, coffee and conversation with friends). Those tiny moments are everywhere.

Its hard to watch this without crying. So much have been happening in the world. There were also floods and storms in Spain, Brazil, Portugal, etc. not only in the Philippines. Earthquake in the US, snowstorm in Japan. Not forgetting this pandemic. The world needs healing. We need to pray more and be closer to God.

I love that laughter is getting a bit more frequent now. I love that you allow Story to feel the nitty-gritty of grieving what was lost (showing her reality) and showing her the way to balance the process out with specks of positivity by looking for friends, celebrating whenever they are found, sharing what little there is, and focusing on the little joys found in the here-and-now.
