Just giving him the benefit of the doubt here. Traditionally throughout history same sex couples didn't raise children, and humans have been very used to being raised by a mother and a father since the beginning. The only argument I see in his favor for that adoption question is that we don't know if there are genuine biological differences in the way a mother interacts with her children in comparison to a father or if these differences are inherently societal. I disagree with him on that, just because we'll never know unless we try, but that is the only conceivable notion I can see. Edit: I have since changed my beliefs

well, I see People often think giving things for free is helpping others. Giving things for free does nothing good in the long run. You will help people stay alive for a while but still not providing them with a stable life since they still have no means of making money on their own. If you control inflation, the price on the market will stay as stable as it should allowing people to have more control over their life since the price does not go too high. The best example is the mask during the pandemic. At first, nobody controlled the price of the mask which led to a serious problem since it's an important piece of equipment yet impossible to lay your fingers on. the same thing happened with toilet paper as well. Helping means helping people to have a better grip on their life in order to get a better life not filling yourself with fake comfort while leaving others to suffer. Take Africa for example. The western give them free food, free drink, free healthcare, and free love but the people were still suffering. They were still poor, still hungry, still sick, still thirsty, and still lived in the age of middle ages when there is no services. Then Vietnam came and threw them a shovel, seeds, materials, and tools and basically said to their face that if they wanted to eat then work. They give them the knowledge and let them work for food and get what they need. If they want something then they will have to get it themself instead of begging others for it. And you know what happened? The people start working in the fields and they finally have a stable way to producing foods. They have services and internet installed and people's life got better. A free market will allow people to make their own business and get themself a chance to have a better life and it's the best option you can have now. Look at Vietnam! In a study on international approval of free market, while in the USA has 70% approval against 25%, Vietnam has 95% against 3%. and if anything shows, Vietnam is now growing so fucking fast that you can't even believe in your eyes. According to The World Bank, Vietnam's GPD growth in 2020 is 2.9 while the United States is at -3.5%. And if it's not enough, then see it like this. For a very long time, the people in Vietnam encourage people to use Vietnam's products in order to control inflation and now they are pushing a lot of products that beat many other countries. Thanks to that the unemployment percentage in Vietnam is way lower in the USA. While the number in Vietnam is 2,62%, the unemployment rate in the US is 5,20%. And you can imagine how significant controlling the inflation is since Vietnamese can open a shop in the front yard and do businesses as they see fit, unlike the US. The people can set the price as they see fit since technique the government can't force them to set a price. Yet since the inflation is so well-controlled in Vietnam, the unemployment rate is also lower than that in the US.

It depends, if you live outside of an area with a public water supply it's basically free. Very occasionally you might have to get your well fixed which can be pricey, but my parents had to do that maybe once in the 24 years I've been alive. As long as the well was installed right and you don't live somewhere with a shortage, water is as expensive as the electricity needed to run the pump, which is miniscule. That's not to say I disagree with you, and bottled water is absolute bullshit, but water is a free resource in pretty much a quarter of the country once you're outside of a city.

He constantly uses "what about ism" when talking about something as a way to pivot away from a topic that he has no confidence in such as populist economics. And he's actually at the end of the day, just a culture warrior who virtue signals to people with centrists/right leaning cultural beliefs.helk say he hates culture war issues and would rather discuss "substance" but all he ever talks about is "radical liberals" and culture war issues. He'll do anything to talk about those subjects but runs away at the first sign of economic discussion or public health or foreign policy, regime change war etc. He'll do monologues on it but rarely pushes into it when debating. Also he down plays conservatives b.s. all the time and highlights liberal b.s. just in general he's no better than either a Sean hanidy or a Rachel madow. Literally laughed so hard when I read the disclaimer on the actual political compress test: " Please note that this isn’t a survey, and these aren’t questions. They’re propositions. To question the logic of individual ones that irritate you is to miss the point. Some propositions are extreme, and some are moderate. That’s how we can show you whether you lean towards extremism or moderation on the Compass. Your responses should not be overthought. Some of them are intentionally vague. Their purpose is to trigger reactions in the mind, measuring feelings and prejudices rather than detailed opinions on policy."

If the purpose is to measure your knee jerk reactions instead of thought out policy opinions, that makes it a terrible political compass because it's not an accurate reflection of your actual political standings at all. You could end up giving answers entirely different from the policies you actually want in place due to vague phrasing or loaded propositions. I think they should rename the quiz to something that describes what it actually is.

There was an event during the first world war called the Christmas Truce. Men on both sides walked out of the trenches into no-man's land to bury the dead, sing Christmas carols, and share rations. They celebrated Christmas together as fellow human beings, undivided for the holiday. The high-ranking, aristocratic officers punished the men for this display of common decency and respect for their fellow man. They threatened further punishment for any fraternization with the "enemy." Seems to me like people were a lot more divided by class than by nationality in world war 1. Officers were officers and soldiers were soldiers, and no matter which side of the line they were on they acted the same.

@Mr. House You do realize that the reason South Asia, Middle Eastern, African, and South American societies are experiencing water insecurity is because Nestle and other companies like them are sucking up their rivers and lakes right? That's like the whole thing. That's why you see videos of people walking miles to fill of a jug full of muddy, disease ridden water: because the potable sources of water are legally owned by companies like Nestle who take the good drinking water and put it in a bottle to sell it back to the people who used to have it for free, and/or chock it full of sugar and dye, simultaneously destroying a water source, and making it unhealth before reselling it. There is no "actual argument," here; Ben is just too privileged to even consider why people can't "just drink from the tap." He is actually too stupid to consider someone's conditions outside of the upper class lifestyle he leads.

@@casie6609 Great for you, not great for the overwhelming amount of impoverished communities that rely on clean water sources that are expensive. The ones that corporations lobby for regional control over that allows them to commodify natural resources and soil water reserves that the public would otherwise collectively own. Such as communities in North Dakota who literally have faucets that shoot fire due to fracking, or people in states like Detroit that straight up the shut off water for vulnerable communities. The thing that Ben fails to acknowledge is that water is not just costly for many people, sometimes it's just not an option.

Have you considered moving? Not tryna tell you to leave just $35k a year is basically nothing compared to living in SoCal. Theres jobs that pay $20+ working 12 hour days and 5 days a week and it would literally be like $1200 to live in a nice 3 bedroom or 4 bedroom house leaving plenty of money for you guys to go out and vacation every year
