RE-MADE surfboard, testing in BIG waves.
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
The biggest swell in 15 years just hit California. I found this neglected Bing Copeland longboard on offer up for $10. It was so far gone I almost used it for scrap foam, but then I had an idea. What if I reshaped the original board into a specific shape for catching big waves?
I documented the whole process and finished the board the night before the historic waves arrived.

Very cool! I miss surfing big time. I don't live near the ocean anymore, I'm not a lifeguard anymore, and I done got old! lol I'm just not a strong swimmer like I used to be. But I still watch it! Great video.
I don't know how you are gonna keep making boards when you have those huge balls in your way the whole time. Great video congrats!!! So cool.

I like the ASMR quality of the ambient sounds. No music or voice over worked for me!
That’s just the greatest! To repurpose old board making them new again. Fantastic!
I’m hooked, you do great work. Never thought I’d enjoy videos of people doing (well) what I hate most.
Nice video man! Foam was so trashy-dead so I did not expect that the board would survive to the end, but apparently you fixed it very well.

I always love the raw sound! Mahalo again (from hawaii) for sharing your knowledge, shaped my first 2 boards this past year and learned some techniques from you!
I just found your channel. Awesome work. I cannot believe you save the nose of that thing. Pretty cool to have a modernish board made with 60's Clark foam.
Excellent craftsmanship & ballsy surf session

New life for an old Board! I love it
You are an inspiration. Keep up the good work!
Epic. Love everything about this
Loved the quiet work in progress feel - there's plenty of explanatory vids out there so to just sit and watch a craftsman at work was a pleasure without being bombarded with info - Thanx from Oz mate🤘

No wonder you’re so good at board repairs with paddle outs like that!
Good work 👏 👏👏 awsome vid!!!
Super cool , would have like to see how it went as a quad... I lost a fin once on a 5'6" quad and I probably surfed 80% worse than usual 😂 but anyway ,love to see the craftsmanship 👍🏄
Awesome video!!
I used to love reshaping old boards. Thank you for sharing. Cheers!

I am from the area surf that spot many times you have to go into hell bent mode to charge it, great job on the reshape and charging it
This new... im here, im watching, I like IT!!! Push the limits to what restoration really means. Why dont you use the old epoxy peels to do something else... Art work of some kind... Cheers and much success!!!! You need a vacuum for all that blank dust...
Very nice silent edit. Satisfying and clean, I do miss the music tho you have great music taste. Very jazzy
Just awesome
Nice work! Dig the no music format with closed captioning. First swell was though with all the backwash. Second swell much cleaner. Heavy ones.
Enjoyed the end edit, tell your buddy to clean his sensor!

Regular acrylic paint diluted with water to flow better through the gun.
Sick! Curious to hear your thoughts on how the board felt 🤙🏼
@Rogue_wave
Жыл бұрын
Honestly, it’s not a great board. That’s not to say I regret making it. I have a ton of fun on boards that other people would write off. The problem with this thing is that it’s too thin to paddle as fast as I’d like, and it needs more rocker. Both problems that would be solved using a regular blank, which is what I’ll end up doing next time a shape a step up / gun!
Plunge router for the plugs is an industry standard

People have been asking me that for months in the comments and I have no good answer other than that I haven’t done any research into the benefits of using one. I also find hook and loop sandpaper pretty expensive.
Awesome craftsmanship and those waves are crazy cool. This board reminds me of jay moriarty board color 👍🏼
I like the voice overs. Cause I am dumb and I need someone cleverer then me explaining things.
awesome repair video

Haha good memories ❤️
looks like it went pretty good for having a fin missing. could maybe use a bit more nose rocker but obviously you were confined to how much you could put into the blank. Would love to see how it goes with all the fins in if you head north for with the swell coming in the 24th. Isn't going to be huge but should be offshore wind. I wish you luck for your next session!

Well done! What kind of UV lamp do you use? I like to use the UV resins for repairs, but it's a pain to make the garage into a darkroom!
@Rogue_wave
Жыл бұрын
Dude my garage is far from a dark room I just mix a pinch of uv powder in my resin whenever I need it. I don’t buy premix uv resin for that reason. The lights are just UV-C lights from Amazon.

What do you use the styrene monomer for? Is that to thin the gloss coat?
@Rogue_wave
Жыл бұрын
Yep exactly. It helps the resin "flow" nicely, and lay very flat.
Crazy you managed with out 1 fin and with plasticish ones

What a fully awesome video. Tho personally I love it where you explain what you’re doing during the build. One question why chop off what looked like a decent section at the tail and have to do more repair work on the nose (Unless you just wanted to make the vid more interesting and informative - then fair enough)? Great job dude

Sikkk!😊😊
Could have surfed sick if you didnt lose the fin on the paddle out such a shame lol still super good video and great surfing for only having 3 fins on a quad lol
Looked Gnarly and mean!
Did you use dowels or something else to reinforce the broken stringers? Didn't seem like it had a very good stinger to start out with. Almost feel it would have been better to split the board and glue in a new stringer. Also fiberglass fins are so much better than the Thermtech plastic fins
Play in 2x speed, more satisfying
