Such a great video, thank you for sharing. I have one question, how often can I refire a mug? I have refired a mug already 3 times and want to try it one more time before I give up 😅, where do you think is the limit of refireings for a clay body? I was reading the clay can get stressed out and be bridle after too many firings- but didn't said how many are too many 😅 (Firings are to cone 5 1/2)

I fill the vessel with scalding water from the kettle, that way it is evenly heated inside and out

I used Elements on a figurine piece and I am very disappointed with the end result. The result was streaky where you can't recognize what the piece is. Can I reglaze with Stroke and Coat since there is no movement in the glaze?

I have a pot that I have mid fire glazed and am not happy with the colour can I heat and Re glaze with a different colour

Hi, thank you for your very instructive video. I wanna reglaze some of my pots but don't have a heatgun, I only have a blowtorch. But I'm afraid I might damage somehow, or break the pot with the flame if the pot is quite thin? I throw with stoneware but quite thin... Any recommandations using a blowtorch to heat up the pot?

Thanks so much for your kind words on the video! If you’re using a blow torch, I would recommend setting the flame to a lower setting so its not full blast. The last thing you want to do is over heat the pottery and it shatters. I’d also put the pottery on some kind of banding wheel so you can spin it at an even rate and move the flame over the piece. If you hold it directly on one spot you run the risk of shattering it. Hope that helps!

I bought some Japanese Shungyo Kyoto stoneware today from a thrift store. Is there any way to put another coat of glaze on them without the use of a kiln? (I have never done anything of the sort before)

Glaze, by definition, needs to be fired. You would need to know the temp the clay can withstand and use a firing schedule and glaze appropriate with those temperatures

Hi, did you have to change your firing temperatures? John Britt suggested a much slower firing but I'm trying it now and it's taking forever!

When you fix a glaze flaw are you just limited to putting the same glazes on? I have a bowl, aardvark Sedona red. I put Amaco ancient jasper, seaweed, and oatmeal on it. Huge pinholes at cone 5 15 min hold. Refired to cone 6 with slow cool put more seaweed on using hairspray. Less pinholing but still some and the ancient jasper fired dark and kinda satin. Want to fire a third time but I’m at a loss to know which glaze to put on. Should I put a different one on?

Rhonda Valverde so most issues with pin holes come from gasses in your clay not coming out fully during the bisque firing. Between 1360-1630° is the off-gassing stage of a bisque firing. I’d recommend slowing down the firing through this phase and only let the kiln heat up between 50-75°/hour. That should help with pin holes in the glaze.

So in essence do a slow cone 5 fire instead of a medium speed fire with this combo. Had same clay same bisque other glaze combos no pin holes. The clay just seems to hate this combo but I don’t want to give up on it yet, it’s a nice bowl. 😂

I dont see why not. It may take a little longer to warm up but it should work too

Also can I gradiette( new word) the colour by diluting the glaze , sorry absolute addicted begginnner who wants to change the world ha ha
