RDR1 uses the full potential of the euphoria engine. Devs from NaturalMotion them selfes were involved in 2010. RDR2 uses a euphoria "light" version without any morpheme/endorphin and help from NaturalMotion. RDR2 has its priority more to precaned animations (meele fights and drunk walking, shot reactions and stumbling overall). Most people think its "realistic" but in reality, the euphoria engine is just used in a rudimentary and really toned down way. NPCs start rotating arms when getting shot to the head and the bullet force is way to high and pushes NPCs away. R* did a great job with RDR2 in general but the game and especially the physical interaction with NPCs and gunplay would be way more entertaining and satisfying when they would have used the euphoria implementation the same way like they used it in RDR1. Things are not always better, just because they are newer. The use of the euphoria engine in recent R* titles is one of those things.

Fun fact: In Rdr2, you can also tackle opponents and make them fall on the ground like in Rdr1, and then start punching them. You should've showed it.

In the game, the character interacts with the environment in a really cool way. They use a bunch of invisible lasers all over the place to figure out what they can climb, vault over, or bump into for special animations. There are hitboxes for every object, and they have to be just right to make sure the character does the right actions, like climbing instead vaulting. And when it comes to fighting, things get even more hairy. You can kick someone off a ledge or smash their head against a wall. The game even has AI that makes little tweaks to the animations on the fly. So if someone has a bigger or smaller neck, the choking animation adjusts accordingly. And when climbing, the AI takes into account how slanted an object is to make it little adjustments to the finger positions and the arm position, this is most likely done by using only one bone that has inverse kinematic to allow the AI to only need to worry about the hand position and everything else will follow naturally. This is a very simplified explanation its much more complex then this.

​@@Naimedclaimingyeah I like that they're weightier but I reckon the ragdolls in rdr1 (when you shoot folk in the body) take the bullets in a much better way Can't tell you how annoying it is to me that if I shoot an npç in rdr2, about 8 times out of 10, their arms will spin rapidly in a windmill motion while they bring one leg up to knee high Happens so often it's somewhat immersion breaking In rdr1 I've just never seen the same sort of death twice

I should probably add about the throwing knifes... That you can collect them if you used them on a person and animal. When you loot the kill you'll get it back at times. Noticed that detail when replaying RDR1 on the Switch... I'll probably remember it if I played on PS3 again but that version is pretty awful go back too.

I love the fist fighting in rdr 2 there is alot of things you can do that you couldn't in the first game and alot of it they don't even explain in the tutorial. You can throw people and hold them hostage.

I think in GTA 6 they should bring back the freedom of choice we last saw in San Andreas,a good story like GTA 4 and details like RD2.Don’t you agree?🤔

I agree with that...but i also think that there should be settings for new mechanics too...like lets say they completely redo the wanted lvl system and add a mechanic where cops remember you or your car after you lose a wanted and u have to change clothes or respray your car to completely lose it...make a setting where we can makes the cops more like gta v cops"something that mafia def edition does...u get to pick if you want realistic cops or mafia 3 cops)...and not just wanted lvls too, like the big one i wanna see is them have both gta 4 and 5 car handling and you have to choose what driving handling you want before starting the actuall game

There's a trick to this, and I see that you haven't figured it out lol. (I'm assuming you play on Playstation), so the trick is to hold on to "X" and NOT mash it. If you hold it, you will NEVER crash into anything, but mashing it constantly sets you up for failure.

@@skakd._ thats not true...sure, the arabian is one of the most skiddish breeds in the game...but if you get your bond lvl maxed out, the horse can run in the middle of a battlefield and not flintch...its when a predator gets too close is where i have problems with the horse, and that dont happen too often(and i know where some areas to avoid at night are at)

To do that you need to have max bonding level with your horse, it works most of the time and comes very handy in a lot of situations

By the way, you can shoot off the knives you've thrown with your gun in RDR2.

Fall physics in rdr 1 look like John could take it whilst in rdr 2 he falls like A dead bird

Things better in RDR1: -Horse hair movement -Lasso visible on outside of body when stowed -John's brown undershirt as opposed to his white RDR2 one -Better gunbelt -Tighter gloves -Liar's Dice -Mexico. Mexico>Guarma -Better Abigail model/voice -Better Uncle model/voice -Drops/splashes of blood/rain on screen -Better story -Etc... Take away the graphics improvements of RDR2? Well, you've got a less fun RDR1 with a few small additions added and new characters. I love RDR2. But 1 is the best.

RDR1 has better gunshot reactions. But RDR2 has far more alive and interactive world. Better horse riding, More detailed would, Ragdolls when falling of a cliff are better in RDR2 fist fighting is also much better in 2.

Why did it take them so long to add the rd revolver movements into gta games like the flips to dodge the special ability the ability to get behind cover, it took them so long

Just replayed RDR1 to 100% after not having played it since release 13 years ago, and as I remembered I definetly prefer it over RDR2. It just feels much better controls wise, strikes a fine balance between realism and smooth gameplay and I much prefer the environments and overall tone as well. RDR2 is really good and all, but feels too much like a tech demo and 'immersion simulator' which makes it tiresome to play at times.

Also the overall physics are way more entertaining and impressive in RDR1 (thanks to NaturalMotion and the fact that endorphin was used as a main feature in RDR1). Beeing drunk gives you a controllable euphoria walking simulator while in RDR2 you just got a precaned walking animation.

I know I was pissed off about losing so badly in blackjack and I beat the shit out of the dealer and threw him out the window. Almost positive it was Rhodes. Wasn't even trying. Started attacking him by a window and last thing I did was throw him out of the window. I was so shocked I just stood there for a few minutes in amazement, then went outside and saw where he landed on a cart. Was awesome as hell.

If you shoot a gun in rdr1 it does infact fire just not always. The ragdoll in rdr2 are horrible. He magically turns upside down. Both great games but rdr1 ragdolls all the way.

Come on you’re comparing two games with completely different stages of development and you’re favouring the newer one what do you expect from a 2010 game obviously rdr2 is going have better details but I personally prefer one because it’s more simple and less complicated don’t take this the wrong way but it’s quite a dumb comparison maybe compare red dead revolver with rdr one cause it’s at least a little more even

cause it's bigger, and covid possibly delayed part of its development along with the leaks last year.

It is not taking 10 years to develop. The team who makes GTA makes RDR too so they did not work on it whole RDR2 was made. So really it’s only been 5 years since their last game, however COVID probably delayed by a year or two so really GTA6 has probably been in development for around 3-4 years

RDR1 wins. RDR2 has 0 cowboy gunplay.
