Great video. As a long time hand loader myself, I think it’s very important for those casting, sizing or handling lead and lead bullets... to be conscious of the need to thoroughly wash your hands afterwards.

American Reloads - Thanks for you comment and for your interest. Be sure to evaluate what powder coating might do for your shooting. Certainly, the LAM2 will handle our cast bullets fine, and I spent many hours lubing and sizing bullets. With 45/45/10 tumble lubing, we can lube bullets faster and the Lee size dies handle the sizing. With PC, we do away with lubes and still use the Lee size dies... We have great options today with our cast bullets... Best to ya, FC

FortuneCookie45LC thanks! I actually have a patented coating that I use on my cast bullets, but I like to mix it up with basic lead bullets for comparison. This patented bullet coating replicates the results from a FMJ without the high cost. I'm working on getting it marketed for a manufacturer to pick up.

it would be extremely helpful if you would expound on this and show the complete process of adjusting the stop and setting up the die itself for proper lube groove fill

Another good tip on installing the lock nut is to lay your nut wrench or a piece of flat metal on top the nut while using a little pressure from the ram while starting the nut. It helps you get started straight. Keep in mind they are fine threads. Great tip on the flat head top punch. Gonna have to have one made for me.

Hey Fortune Cookie. It's been awhile. Got a question for you. I'm finally thinkin of gong outside the realm of tumble lubing. I plan to get the RCBS. Are you aware of a lubing/sizing die in .365 diameter for the 9mm Makarov? I'm having trouble locating one.

I have not used my RCBS lube sizer in a while. One thing I had to do on a few of the dies is use lead shot to plug a hole that the bullet only covered part of the bullet and the rest let lube under the bullet base. Never knew there were heating plates back in my day and maybe they were not developed?

Гагарин Юрий Great question...There are many top punches, but I only use one for everything - I took a semi-wadcutter flat nose top punch, put it into a vise, and used a flat file to file off the semiwadcutter sides converting it into one flat punch without shortening the flat section of the punch. Since all my bullets have a flat nose, it became a universal top punch useful for round nose bullets as well. Best Regards to you...

Hi Fortunecookie45LC, I'm currently pan lubing my .577/450 hollow base bullets for my Snider.. I make my own lube and looking for a quicker cleaner method of lubing the grease groves. Do you think the RCBS LUBE-A-MATIC 2 sizer lubricator is the answer ?

bob baxter One of our shooting community uses 24 gauge black powder shotshells for his 58 caliber Enfield musket bullet ammo (video is up). All of your sizer lubricators from Lyman, RCBS, Star et al, were designed for smokeless powder cast bullets. However, they will work for black powder loading for the following conditions 1) you are shooting cartridge black powder loads especially for revolvers, 2) your non-petroleum lube has the consistency and stability to stay in the bullet grease grooves during the sizing lubrication process 3) for the Snider, if you can find sizing dies that are the exact size of your cast HB bullet so that no actually occurs. My fears are there are no sizing dies available that big. If you were reloading pistol BP cartridge loads like for 38 special, 44 or 45 Colt - you could certainly use the LAM2. No air between powder and bullet and you are in business...Best Regards

"Get the lead out"....what works best for you (Chemical) for cleaning the lead out of shotgun/ rifle/handgun barrel?

Best way to get the lead out is not to get the lead in in the first place…We want ammo that will give us minimal clean up, one of the precepts of a Sweet Spot Load. Shotgun barrels is easy - I have a video on the Brass Brute (or is it Big Brute) Rotary Shotgun Barrel Cleaning Rod. Also electric drill brass brush is the ultimate for cleaning out revolver cylinders. For barrels, using a sub brush and tight wrapping with Lead Remover Cloth alternately with copper mesh works well. Some shooters plug and soak barrel overnight with Hoppe's #9. I don't do that though…Best Regards

I dont know if it would work for shotgun, but for handgun and rifle (this isnt a chemical but I think you will find it quicker/easier/cheaper/better) I like a copper or brass brush in a smaller caliber than you would normally use wrapped in chore boy strands (its a 100% copper dish cleaning pad). Just a few strokes and you will have a pile of lead flakes if your barrel is leaded. Even if you dont notice leading you will notice a small amount of dust that probably didnt need cleaning.

FortuneCookie45LC Thanks....I have been suckered into a lot of chemical snake oils...just thought you had some special snake oil...I do use Hoppes, also Shooters Lead out. And found a old formula on youtube called Eds Red...its old school for the black powder/lead ball days...Works as well as Hoppes but does not smell as good!

gman77gas - The Lead Removal Cloth from Midway does work - it turns black as the lead is removed - but gross lead has to be removed with the copper mesh - 4x4le recommends Chore Boy copper dish cleaning pads. There were electrical anode-cathode systems - but those seem to have fallen out of favor. Best Regards to you, and thanks for the comment and info...

+Ronald Gutierrez - if you use the lubes like NRA formula (1/2 Beeswax ; 1/2 Alox) no need for heat plate. But the high tech hard lubes like Orange Magic or the blue lubes need the heating plate to soften those. My home made lube on the other video is formulated to not need the heat plate. Some casters just use a plain metal plate under the press and put a common clothes iron on it to do the same thing. Others use a hair dryer aimed at the press reservoir and that works also. But the common 45/45/10 tumble lube with bullets casted out of TL molds (drop bullets not requiring any sizing) is the best as all the sizing is avoided. Shooters have been lead to believe that sizing the bullets makes them more accurate. But really, all sizing does is allow the bullets to be loaded and fed into our guns OK. If our bullets drop out of molds already doing that, no sizing is needed. Our guns are the final sizing dies, and bullets too small for our guns are uniformly horrible in performance. shananagans5 - I used the Lyman 450 for 30 years before the handle broke. Lyman tells me that I can get a replacement handle for $20 plus shipping. Their 4500 is an improvement over the old 450. Might just go ahead and get the new handle, but the current 45/45/10 lube system is so much faster and easier, and my RCBS is sizing up a storm at this point. I'll just keep that old 450 on standby…best to ya...
