Those old belts that have turned to goo are typically the most involved/messy parts of a repair for me. My buddy just dropped two of these units off for me to tinker with and it seems like they'll just need new belts. Thanks for the video--cheers!

I think the CED is super interesting, but I have to agree with your last point, I just can't convince myself to invest heavily into the format. I'm glad there are people collecting and keeping it alive. I've had almost all the formats, but I only collect 4K UHD's anymore.

Ha I have that CED. I just got this model today with about 90 movies, and I had the same problem when I turned it on. So thank you for this video, I'll be following it step by step very soon

Trying to fix one of these right now, replaced the 3 belts, when I turn it on the L flashes and the platter lowers, BUT the center spindle stays up, and prevents a disc from being loaded. Any ideas?

I saw my players for $600-$695 there serviced working guaranteed do me a favor bud you don’t know enough about these players to be telling people what they’re worth not to be mean to you or anything they are worth a ton of money and working service condition and they are going to be worth a lot more once they turn 40 years old so do me a favor do not downplay the quality or price of these things this model had a remote control if it was in working service condition I would sell it for $600

Well, there will always be gullible people with too much money I guess. Sorry if you think my video is hurting your bottom line but I wouldn't pay more then $30 for one of these and I would suggest no one else pay more then that either. I've found a few and sold one of these recently for the $30 price point and so has two of my friends so Its not like I got super lucky. God knows I've overspent on items before that many people would think are worthless so I guess i'm not one to judge. good luck with your CED selling I guess but IMO you can certainly still find working players for well under $600 and I would urge other to not pay that price.

Ancient Electronics No not literally I don’t think that at all your video is good I just think people downplay it especially when they try to sell laser disk players for $3000 on eBay and everyone knows that laser disks are unraveling. They’re not gonna last as long as Ced‘s LOL I just think this player should get more credit definitely in working service condition LOL sorry it was early I didn’t mean to make it sound like I was coming out your angry I’m not angry I just think that a lot of people play it down they even tell me that’s too much and then I sell one the next day lol 😂

@@colorado-ufos4880 I collect laserdisc players and I wouldn't pay $3000 for those either. I guess i'm just cheap cause I think about $100 is about the most I ever paid for an LD player and I have some decent players. I won't comment on how long one will last over the other, I certainly think CED has a much smaller base of people with any interest in it and the video library is WAY smaller. I really don't see laserdisc collecting going away anytime soon either. The price in the end is what someone will pay and I can only say this about CED players. The one in this video I picked up obviously wasn't sold by the mother who held it for years claiming it was worth hundreds. Also The player I recently sold (with a CED or 2) was an older model but completely working. It sat on Craigslist and other services for months at $60 and then $50 (see, even I try to make a little extra money sometimes). no one so much as messaged me about it until I lowered the price to $30 so i'm only speaking from personnel experience. Maybe the market is different on eBay.

Colorado - It's impossible to downplay the quality of the CED since it's so rock bottom as it is. Even if you have a CED player that came beamed in from 1983 in a time machine, the thing would have terrible picture quality with awful sound. Most cases it's mono. The picture quality is garbage with weird little artifacts and blips in it. CED is like all the garbage quality of a VHS, with all the inconvenience of a Laser Disk player. I own two CED players, and they both work fine, but, anyone who paid 600-700 dollars for a terrible video playback format got ripped off. I really hope you don't actually sell them for that much. Are they collectible? Sure. But are they "high quality"? Not even in the least. There isn't anything on the CED that is the definitive edition and nothing on them is the best version. It was a budget format full of compromises that arrived way too late to market. It is, at best, a anachronistic curiosity.

Was thinking about the longevity of LD and CED a little more. On the media itself Id have to say I think a Laserdisc holds up better then a CED. After all every time you play a CED it degrades a little just like a VHS where LD does not. CED also seems to be more susceptible to dust and heat as well. LD does suffer "rot" but I have a few hundred LD's and its been a pretty minor issue. As for players themselves though an LD is more complicated and the motors and lasers seem more prone to fail so I think player wise CEDs do have an edge but that said I've found LD players to still be very reliable on the whole. Does anyone make needle replacements for the CED players anymore? I know 3D printing has been very helpful in replacing things like worn or broke cogs in LD players.

Old people think everything old has value, it's like how they automatically assume age equals wisdom, which any observer of elders can clearly tell that is not always the case. I've met a lot of dumb old people in my life, the technology of the past stands up better present day than the humans born of the same years. Ahhh, old people, thanks for the laughs. Bad thing about technology today, everything is made to break to boost resale value, especially the gaming consoles. It's not uncommon to find a working NES today, but I find it hard to imagine finding a PS4 that works 10 or 15 years from now, and if it does work, good luck playing any games without the Sony servers, as most games are online, and that's not counting Digital media like downloaded games. Ugh, technology, thanks for the heartache. Nice channel name change, seems a little more marketable, you've been growing pretty steadily. Do you advertise on anything like Twitter? I'm trying to figure out how to increase my viewer reach, I guess I could start with better content, lol.

Optical drives seem to usually be the weak point in most of the modern consoles. I found a Wii U yesterday at a Goodwill for a super deal. I was kinda happy cause it's a system I don't have but low and behold, the optical drive is shot. I'm just glad their starting to come out with SD solutions to replace optical drives for those older consoles. Apple stuff is the WORST when it comes to old people (well, people in general) thinking something is worth its weight in gold. I don't advertise on anything actually though I do have the blog which surprisingly gets a decent amount of traffic which some of may get funneled here since I embed the videos there on the relevant articles.
