RC10CC Chassis Build and Thoughts

So, I decided to go ahead and build up the RC10CC that showed up recently. I kind of planned on doing it later but the curiosity got the best of me to open it and then one thing led to another, and the chassis was built. I will get the body done soon; I am still waffling on the paint. More than likely I am going to end up with two bodies for this one as I cannot make up my mind on what I want to do! It is an interesting and cool looking kit to build.

    A beautifully simplistic, yet highly effective piece of engineering mate ..... You can clearly see why this car was so successful back in the day. Really enjoyed seeing it go together up close, especially as the parts are clear, making it a lot easier to see how things work. Great servo and motor choice mate, that silver servo really matches nicely. Many people have mentioned how poor the tools are that come with this kit, having the right tools for the job always makes things easier A great little shelf queen there fella, I don't blame you at all for not running it Would love to see another re issue of the original gold pan. 🤞 👍 👍 👍

    It is a terrific platform and my experience with my runner is that they drive fantastic and I can see how the dominated things for so long. This one looks super cool and it looks even better in person. I will get some better pics of it once the body gets done. The servo is way overkill for the buggy but the only one I could find in a silver or clear finish that was not super expensive. I was going to polish it but the finish ended up be very close to the chassis so it left it alone. I have never enjoyed putting kits together with the supplied tool usually, hell on the fingers! The microscopic one and the tiny screws got the best of me until I put it in the pin vise and man did that work a ton better. After seeing all the perfectly clear plastics I cannot imagine taking it out and getting it dirty and scratched up. Definitely going to be the display piece it was intended to be. I doubt we are going to see another release of the original, I do think think they are going to do another kit though, I am thinking the worlds car on the black chassis. I would to see a RC10T as well, I always love the looks of them too but never got one. Take care and have a wonderful Easter

    Thanks, I really wanted to find a clear one but the only ones I could find were either micro servos or a couple vintage ones folks were asking way too much money for! I found this one on Amazon and it was fairly inexpensive. Turned out nice in there! The hit looks even cooler in person, the video does not do it justice. I will get some better "glamour shots" of it once I get the body wrapped up.

    Found and bought one at my LHS(thanks for nothing Tower) and even bought two Colored Carbon kits for the build. Can’t decide if I want to use the silver or blue. But still can’t decide if I’m going to actually build it lol. Like you I want the experience and a beautiful shelf queen, but also am thinking of collector value of nib. Unfortunately due to this vice I may just try and get another so I can do both. Like so many others here, hoping they rerelease this, the rc10t or both again. In the meantime I get to enjoy folks like you displaying yours .

Personally I would have to go with the silver carbon on it as it would go with the theme but I can see the blue standing out and looking good too. I do hope the popularity of this release gets them moving on others kits to re-release as I would love to get a worlds kit, an RC10t and even on of the pan cars.

I got the brushless motor and speed control for $200. I got the body for $160. I got the steering servo for about $100. I have kept the Losi in my shop on the workbench. My shop is about 3 blocks from the Pacific Ocean. I notice in the morning when I put on my work uniforms that they are Damp and Cold. It was a real treat to be able to build one up from a kit form and I think the plastics would hold up to some light running now problem. It just don't want a scuff or scratch on it! I am getting my runner one some new parts to make sure it is ready to go an handle running around the track and the yard whenever I want to see one drive. I am very luck in that regards to have both the shelf queen and one I can run. I do think the plastics on this are good enough for a decent romp around the yard. Like you said maybe not track ready but the do seem to be plenty strong and have a little give to them.

    Yeah, the beard caught it but I did not see it until after I crawled around looking for it for quite some time. I had given up and sat back down in the chair and happened to catch a glimpse of something shiny and there it was! LOL! The oil helps out a lot and the pin vise turn into a hex driver sure did make messing with the tiny screws a lot easier. The clear plastic is evidently what they commonly use for prototyping and fine tuning the injection molding process. It lets them see it there are any trouble areas with air getting trapped or similar issues you would not see in the colored plastics. It is not really meant to be strong like the other plastics so they do not recommend actually running the kits but I have seen some run and they look to hold up ok the just some fun running around. I don't want to scratch them all up so mine will be a display kit only. Take care John and have a wonderful week my friend!

    Thanks Mark. It looks super cool in person, the camera just doesn't catch the pop it has that well. I will get better pics once the body is done and it is out for its glamour shots! I am pretty sure I am going to end up doing two bodies for it as silly as that is. I cannot pick between the ideas so it will probably end up being both in the end!

    I have very few that have not been run and never understood it either but one day it happened and I was fine with one of them never getting run. If any were meant to be a shelf queen it was this one. sold and bought for the sole purpose of just being cool to look at. It was more than enough to enjoy building one from a kit format and I am lucky enough to have one as a runner so there is no need to run this one. I did pick up some stuff for the runner to make sure it holds up and I can keep enjoying that one.

    Thanks Mark, glad you enjoyed it. The plastic does have some give to it but it is way grippier than normal kit plastics are. I tried one screw without oil just to see and it was not pleasant! The whole way in I was waiting to hear tick, tick, snap! The oil makes it so much easier and relaxing to put together! Those two long ones on the side of the bulk head were the only ones I really worried about after the first one as they started ticking again about half way in but they went in fine. I will get some better pics of it all once I get the body done for it and it is out for its beauty shots!

  • @AddamsPlayground

    Yeah the ticking noise is un-nerving and the oil makes a huge difference. The beard came in clutch to save the e-clip although I crawled around for a good while looking for the stupid thing. I honestly don't think we will see another original gold pan release, they claimed after the last re-release of the gold pan they would never release it again. This was a way to do that without going back on that. I am glad they did as I hope it opens their eyes to the demand of cool vintage kits and I hope this causes them to re-release the worlds car, while still on the same platform technically not a a gold pan! I would love for them to do the RC10T as well. We will see what they end up doing, they could prove me wrong! I am sure the clear would hope up to some running but since I have the runner already there is no need for me to do it. Since there are no replacements means you are at the mercy of the eBay re-sellers for the limited amount of parts. So it will end up being just as risky as running a vintage one and breaking something and having to pay too much for replacement parts.

    It is a really fun one to build up from a kit. I did see my LHS just got a couple in stock so they are still releasing them. Fingers crossed you can get your hands on one. I doubt they re-re the gold pan as they said on the last release they were not going to do anymore. I am hoping for more kits from them in the future as hopefully they saw the interest in this one and they realize they are missing out on a hot market.

    Hi Addam, what about the quality of the transparent plastic? The old one white was similar to nylon and this one seems more dry, less flexible. For sure they made things at the best.... Thanks and Ciao

  • @AddamsPlayground

    @AddamsPlayground

    4 ай бұрын

    It seems like it would be fairly tough but nowhere near as tough as the nylon. There is a bit of give to it but mostly very rigid and I think with a hard impact it would snap at the common weak points like the suspension pivot points. I think you could get away with light runs out in the open but hitting anything like a track barrier or a hard tumble may cause things to snap. They even say this was made for collectors and not intended for actual use so they just used the standard clear for prototyping and didn't really do anything to improve durability. of it.

    Hi Addam you know what I was thinking? If that clear plastic is polycarbonate I think it may be stronger than the nylon because that's what they use for the clear bodies and also for high impact see through things? @@AddamsPlayground

    Hey, great video. Just subscribed. I have one of these to build, my first non-Tamiya. Is the hardware imperial, if so do you think it’s worth using a tap & die on the plastics first? Also do you know the thread sizes as I’m from metric land!

  • @AddamsPlayground

    @AddamsPlayground

    2 ай бұрын

    Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. 98% of the hardware is standard/imperial and there are only like 6 or 8 screws that are metric. I do not know the actual tread size/pitch on them. I have heard of folks tapping the threads but I do not recall actually seeing any videos where someone was doing it. The silicone shock oil on the treads worked really well to help get them in without binding up. The screws cut into the plastic well enough but the clear plastic is very "grippy" when they are going in. The oil helps lubricate it and keeps them from binding and freezing in the hole. I would be more worried trying to tap them and risk snapping the tap, although unlikely, it would be my luck it would happen! LOL!

  • @jason.bochniak

    @jason.bochniak

    Thanks for the advice, I’m also hesitant to tap the holes, it could be overkill and maybe damage something in the process, if the lube worked well, maybe I’ll do that. Did you just wind the bolts all the way home or back them off a bit etc?
