RC ADVENTURES - Tips & Tricks - Crawlers: Heavy Truck Vs Light Truck - Hard Body vs Lexan Body
Ғылым және технология
Click to Subscribe! ► bit.ly/JOovvU - The debate will carry on throughout the hobby of RC trail and rock crawling - Hard Body, or Lexan? Heavy Truck vs Light Truck.. which crawls better? I think it is completely dependent on the driver, the type of competition or scenario they are in, and what style of driving suits them best. The really cool thing about this hobby, is nothing is set in stone! Pardon the pun :)
These trucks are 1/10th scale and are powered by Lithium Polymer 3S, high-output batteries. The two models I am using today are the G-Made Komodo 4x4 (blue truck), and the RC4WD Gelande 2 4x4 (chopped Land Rover Discovery). Anything is possible in the hobby of radio control these days. If you can imagine it.. you can build it.

+RCSparks Studio hey you should do a test like this with heavy and light trucks 1 with soft suspension and 1 with a harder style suspension and on dirt with humps and bumps to work the suspension and what keeps the truck levler than the other and I think the Glenda 2 is better :)

I thought the sticker in the back said "Camel Towing" for a minute. That'd be an awesome sticker.
Id like to see 2 of the same vehicle, one upgraded and modded with metal everything (heavy), and one with plenty of mods and upgrades but focusing on lightweight. Thank you

killer video as usual medic. awesome job! my komodo should be here in the next couple of days and can't wait to start the build with my nephew. hopefully the holmes hobbies 30t brushed motor and axial ae-5 esc will have the slow crawl capability of yours with the brushless setup.

+RcSparks Studio is it possible to turn a 1:24 scale car to Rc
Just dropped back to re-watch this video. I fell in-love with the Komodo after seeing it on here. I'm currently In the process of building my new Komodo GS02 Double Cab and figured this video would help build the hype! Still love the old GS01.
Perfect timing medic! This came out a week before my birthday and I'm thinking about getting a crawler!

funny you post this............... I went from a 11 1/2 pound SCX last year to just a tad over 6 pounds now I use to love the extra weight but as my driving skills got better I found out by running with my friend Ben I didn't need all that weight and now I'm building a new crawler with a low center gravity when the custom rails he is having made come in It's been a great journey into the RC world and once more many thanks as you were one of the few I watched on KZread who had such a profound impact on my Addiction to the hobby Best wishes to you & the family Paul
always love to see new vids to see whats new out and to get a one up on my friends thanks for the help rc sparks
Hey medic , i've learned a lot about RC's from you and im so much in to the Hobby I think you .I appreciate your RC channel. Love the course. Great looking rig's.
awesome as always
and thanks for the walk through on your rock crawling strategy
Finally got my first crawler but it's a decay still have fun and thanks for the inspiration
That is just awesome! I am awaiting the Christmas arrival my first scaler kit, just an entry-level Barrage builder's kit. This addiction is going to be a lot of fun.
just my observation, I'm thinking a heavier truck will let the suspension flex more, making it more realistic, and giving you more contact to the ground. I could be wrong, I'm going to be getting into scale trucks if I can. Great video btw!
They both look badass! Nice one Aaron! :D
you should do a test with 4 wheel steering vs 2. always look forward to your vids Medic keep up the great work!!!
Great video man. I guess everyone had their own opinion but I love the hard style "tamiya" bodies. I feel that they offer better realism plus you can apply greater, more realistic painting techniques.
I liked the heavier truck, in fact, I’m waiting on them to come back in stock. Thanks for sharing
Cool video. You've inspired me, yet again, to go and have fun with RC
good vid keep on updating and I'm pretty sure all of us subscribers are very enthused by your work with you trucks
I think I´d start with that G-Made Komodo. I´m looking for my first crawler so don´t know nothing about driving them. Loving your videos, keep them coming!
Just got back into crawling myself.... I had a gen 1 deadbolt, so bought a gen 2. And I had prior purchased a TRX4 Sport. I came back to this video, because I am building both for "competition". One is going to be for performance, and one is for scale building/performance. Axial is going to be pure performance- built to win, just unboxed it today TRX-4 is going to be built for pure fun - already winning because fun is the goal =) Already has a metal bumper set, with metal winch ( unfortunately doesn't work properly), waiting for tires, just got beadlocked aluminum 3 piece rims. A servo/horn upgrade next.... Haven't decided on a hardbody for it yet. I am partial to older Fords though. Definitely a hobby of passion, and I been missin it for quite a while!
Hey rcsparks. I wonder if you have any suggestions on good rc car that don't cost over 200 $ ? Btw you rock :)
nice vid man, always watch your stuff. I like both trucks, no favorites. keep em coming!
Great video always have fun watching you drive the toys around
Like you stated man, I'm personally torn between both because the heavier rigs(hard bodies) do look extremely scale while crawling while the lighter ones(lexan) are better for fast run times during competitions etc.. I've always tried to keep a happy medium between the both to fully enjoy more aspects of the hobby. Great video for the beginners! I'm going to refer this to my Dad because he just recently got into crawling like me!! Thanks Medic!!!!!
awesome vid ! really enjoyed the commentary ! hard to pick one , both are sweet rigs. lol!
Hey Medic, in my opinion the Gelende II was a favorite of mine since you built it. I am more of a purist when it comes to certain things, but I am sure if the aftermarket gave more support as for parts supply for the Komodo then I am sure that it could be more of a contender. The Gelende II has an extensive parts list of providers as well as from RC4WD which produces it, not to mention aftermarket which in my opinion is extremely important.
I can't believe that the Gelande 2 is up and running so well!
I really love how good the comments section is on this channel, and how much medic replies to comments.
Love the videos! Keep it up!
Man either way they both look awesome
Really enjoy all your vids Medic. I love my Komodo. Amazing machine after a few factory made mods.
Medic! Gmade Komodo all the way. I loved that truck since it came and soon hope to add one to my collection. Keep RC'ing bro!
great video as always
Definately the Landy...working on my second week with the TF2, did most of the mods except raise the body and get bigger tires but the mod I couldn't wait to come in the mail was the steel drive shafts, kept dropping the front drive shaft. I love this truck...wish they made a '98 grand Cherokee, I drove that off road with no mods and it was very capable...(couldn't afford to lift it) but I know how that truck drove, another would be a LandRover Lightweigh...still miss that truck...couldn't bring it back to the states...Great site and great Vids...
hey man keep the crawling videos coming. I just recently bought my first crawler a Redcat rockslide I know it's cheap but a good starter. so I need all the help I can get learning. Thanks again man

Very good tips n tricks thx
hey medic, this is a very interested video for me 👍🏻 well done, please more from such a kind of videos with your personality tips and tricks, so that we can learn from you 😉 i like more the gelände 2
Gelande 2 is my favorite for realism, sweet set up.
Can't wait to be able to afford a crawler you make,it look like a blast
Cool!!
Buen Trabajo ;) eres un Crack
this video just helped me so much! Iam building my cralwer right now and I was asking my buddys if all my steel roll cage iam building will affect the way I crawl!! thanks medic!!
awesome Video and great run on the track.....thumbs up :-))
Either way you got me addicted to the hobby ..just wish I had your back yard ! Awesome ...I'll have to go for the blue one but with expo ... take care wheels to the ground ✌😎👍
hey medic another great video I would have to say I like the Glenda 2 better, the metal body gives it weight and it seems more realistic thats a sick truck with the winch on there and the metal bumpers love it keep them coming medic
I like the g made but I have not used either of them in person. great video
that glendale is so awesome looks amazing... but i would have both!
Que Pasada , Muy Bueno !! ;)
Like the blue on that truck man. Very good work on the crawls too.
Man! I went out today, was working on my truck yesterday, somehow when I sealed up the esc in the box and bolted it back deep inside the frame, I must have bumped the switch off? I'm still just sitting here staring at it watching rc vids! lol
Love the look and ability f the blue truck. I would love to build one my self.
Very helpful awesome vid
Great video 👍👍👍👍👍 I love the crawlers /scalers!! Oh yes my d90 is my favorite too! Well tie with my trail finder!! Great video bud👍
Also I love your videos and they got me into trucking, drifting and raceing I have a traxxas grave digger truck a rustler vxl that goes 125mph and a brushless losi micro t I've been with you since 2009 and am happy to click the like button
awesome vid
dude your blue truck is awesome!
Both were good g made looks like the winner to me wood be a lot better with drag break cool vid keep up the good work medic luv the vids
I liked the komodo.. that one looks nice and seems to go over the rocks a little easier. Love ur vids medic :D
I prefer the Komodo because of how it looks and preforms 👍great video👍
startin out on RC, basically ordered a WLToy K949, cheaper altenative to the Twin Hammers, love to try something like yours, maybe gona find smthing like the ECX Barrage for starters :) nice vid!
You just got an XMaxx! I was expecting you to put it to the test. Love the crawler vids too tho....
im gonna say the blue one. maybe change it up a little to have a drag break though. great vid bro!
Love this coll
I like the one that's not broken at the end. Ya I see that steering link hahaha
To be, or not to be, that is the question, I like the hard one that looks more real, and the blue one has it's advantages too. Much like my Axial jeep vs my slash 4x4, they are both fun & serve there own purpose for the sport, but I must cast my vote for the hard body Gelande 2 for its realism feel. Good Job my Friend...
NICE VID GUYS CAN YOU DO SOME TRACK RACING
Lovely trucks, although I'd already made up my mind to get a Komodo at some point, already... Which you can take credit for, Medic!
yes! more rock crawling!
Good tips
Nice comparison. I really like the hard bodied, heavier trucks for trailing and a bit of rocks, but for rocks most of the time, then a lexan body and middle weight for me
I'd like them both! ;-)
Ahh! Spring is in the air. I must admit I am partial to the Komodo but I personally would wait for some aftermarket suppliers to produce upgrades before i would purchase. It is definately on my "want" list!
Like all your trucks
gonna pick up a 1/5th scale tomorrow. it's between the losi 5t or the hpi 5sc. which one would you recommend and why? thanks
incrovel seus trabalhos acompanho vcs smp cntinuem assim
Hi great vid, more tips and tricks :) I do like them both but I'm drawn to the komodo. For my next truck and first main crawler, I'm trying to decide between the Trailfinder 2 and the Komodo, what do you think? could you do a similar video with both these trucks? where I am at the moment is to buy the Komodo :) Thanks
Komodo didn't look as real going on the rocks but the Komodo looked a little more capable. Nice vid
2:45 I love your enthusiasm :)
nice race
Thanks..... I was wondering what the EXP setting on one of my controllers was.
All the snow is melted down in Wisconsin too. :D
Actually, as I typed that, I have two scalers myself, and Axial SCX-10, and a Vaterra Ascender. My Axial is my heavy weight, it's almost completely aftermarket, only stock parts left, are the frame rails, and the axle centers, even the cross members on this rig are metal. Only thing is the body is a custom cut 1979 Ford F-150 designed for the Savage XL. My Ascender is completely box stock. I have noticed by the way, that the Ascender has an easier time with the side hills, but even though both trucks run the same tire tread, ( SX Super Swampers) the Ascender has to spin the tires more in order to grab a rock, while my heavy SCX-10 just grabs, due to the weight forcing the tires to do so. All I'm saying here is simply put, you get some pro's, and some con's from both setups. I love both of my rigs, and wouldn't replace either, but I know what both have for strengths, and weaknesses as well.
Nice
My vote is definitely for the Gelände, especially the way you customized it. I prefer the scale look of the heavier vehicles while the lighter crawlers present more like toys.
nice job
Could you possably do a video on what you do once you come back home after running your rc's, stuff like battery discharge and cleaning of vehicles?
And also great video
Hey medic I have an scx-10 and I put a castle creations sidewinder 3 but the second I touch the throttle it goes as fast as the 27t motor does, but I have a spektrum dx4c so do u think I can do something to make it go at a slower speed?
well done
I like the Gelande 2 ...the style of it, the drag brake and the adjustability of throttle control. =) That was an interesting comparison of the two different trucks. =)
I like the blue one! Just needs drag brakes and it will be killer!
I like the g-made komodo better but don't have experience with either . Kinda new to the hobby . I started with a cheaper brand and bought a redcat vortex SS sct . didn't really dig the nitro (constantly tuning ) so I got an Axial Wraith and love it then a slash 1/16 and love it then got the 4 year old a dromida mt4.18 and he loves it . great video medic
hey medic ist the warm weather we have been having in Calgary awesome? I love it
I like them both
still hard to pick one! but in the end i think i'd go for the gelände!
