RBH Sound Battle for Flagship Audioholics Reference Speaker System

Ғылым және технология

I was fortunate to get in the very first pair of RBH Sound SVTRS active towers for evaluation and comparison to my legendary Status 8T speakers. Shane Rich, Technical Director of RBH Sound personally came to my place (prior to COVID-19) to set the system up and answer some questions regarding this limited production flagship speaker that stands almost 8ft tall. Will this be the new reference speaker for Audioholics? What this YT video to find out.

Gene was kind enough to allow me to spend 30 minutes or so listening to his monster system and it is truly amazing! The term that I kept using was effortless. I am still a Paradigm guy, but must admit that RBH has me impressed for sure, this was definitely the best system that I have yet to encounter on my journey. Thanks again Gene!

A simple glimpse of the SVTRS's in one of 'ur recent videos prompted me, a few days ago, to place an order for 4 x 8" DVC woofers along with 3 x 4" mids for each of 7 matching towers for a total of 49 drivers. Tweet, crossover, and box type(s) TBD. But would be stacked just as these SVTRS's as they HIT me immediately as a design that's got so much right! I've also picked up the OmniMic v2 & DATS v3 combo pack. Along with 2 micro SD cards to document and maybe archive here on YT? Hopefully. GREAT discussion, inspiration, design and build guys! Beautiful!!! 8D (Ps; also just built a Metal Maslow CNC, waiting on delivery of a raspberry Pi for Web Control. Good things to come!)

My company Sifa Design Group has been using Digital DSP with high end Lab Gruppen and Linea amplifiers to do this for years. When you utilize Fir and Allpass filters correctly and have a robust measuring system (Tef, Easra etc) it’s a thing of beauty. PS: RBH rocks and it’s our go to speaker system for most high end Resi applications.

Those would probably be the end of a speaker road for me - what a speakers ( imposing looks, active concept dynamicly adjustable to your needs, performance measurements) I'm inclined to rename them to Memento as the current technical nomenclature doesn't seem to do justice for them. Again, great to see you guys ;-)).

I have a soft spot for AMT drivers, always love to see them getting used. For my first stereo system back in 1975 or 76 I went with ESS AMT5's. I thought they sounded great to my inexperienced ears back then, my receiver was a Marantz 2270, famous for getting burned, with a huge 70W output.

I own 30 year old Pioneer Elite TZ-7s. Before I found these for sale, I was seriously considering a pair of RBH speakers, they had some good prices on some of their floor standing speakers and even bookshelves but I then found these Advent CS-310 speakers and really they are good enough for now. Maybe in the future if I get a new place and larger room I'll see if a newer pair of speakers suits me better.

I currently have three RBH C-770 L/C/R and it creates quite a nice wall of sound up front on an Outlaw 5000. Pretty cool to see the much much much bigger brother. Same beautiful aluminum woofers though...I am going to show my wife this video and tell her I got the itch just to see her give me that look. When one of my friends saw the RBH exposed woofers the first time he said, "Those speakers are really Van Halen!"... Well the bad boys in this video are REALLY REALLY Van Halen!

YES! I want a set! but probably without the top subs. One thing I don't understand is why FIR filter obsessive tuning all active systems are more common. My senior project as an Electrical Engineer was taking a Yamaha Receiver, hijacking the digital audio right before the DACs, pulling it into an FPGA, FIR filtering it with 1024 taps each to only crossover the Mid to High, then injecting it back into the receiver while borrowing one of the surround pairs as the extra amp chain and of course, driving a pair of RBH 661SEs. I loved the results then, but I don't know why it isn't as popular. I realize that IIR Bi-Quads just WAY easier to implement and they're computational easier too, but this isn't rocket science, just Electrical Engineering science! :-) You just can't beat perfect Linear Phase from both the tweeter and mid range. It adds a smooth detail and clarity in those transitions frequencies that is hard to come by. It blends so perfectly. Can't freaking wait.

Full digital control between the source and dac i find very appealing :) think i understand it that this system does that. A system that can take my spotify music output from my pc with usb to a external processor with dac and full parametric eq available so i can use a tone generator and listen myself and have my pc monitor display the parametric eq and i can and adjust it realtime quick and easy. I went to Marani Pro Audio website and looked up lpp480f and one spec that is a problem.... Delay: 480.998ms 10.4us increment/decrement steps per input, 340.998ms 10.4us increment/decrement steps per output. that is half a second delay from input to output. i also need a big volume knob and remote of course.

Hey guys, this is really interesting products. The one challenge I have seen with pairing of air motion transformer to dynamic drivers is that there sometimes seem to be some disconnection of some sort, like the drivers play different songs. I am not sure what this comes from, different topologies, directivity issues or something else. However, most of the speakers I seen with this combo have some sort of integration problem, easily audible. Have you had any of these issues? I assume RBH fixed this somehow 😊

The SV series start at 13K for towers, am I missing something? They don't make any towers any cheaper than that anymore? They used to have a few mid-priced tower options my dreams are dashed. This question is very interesting, I feel it's a meaningful consideration with passive loudspeaker systems, as both they and the room are fixed. Questions of harmonics between the resonance of speaker cabinets, and the resonance of the room. Very interesting. I feel measuring the room may even be an intriguing way of shopping for speakers, to reference a database of options to match the needs of the room. I'd be interested if anyone else would be interested in pursuing such a thing.

@@paulupton5557 This is just a" hobby" for a group of people who have a lot of disposable income So they can brag to each other about how great there system is to each other. For the rest of us we are suppose to be in awe of these so called audiophiles that them selves become snobs who look down on the rest of us with our puny sub par systems in there eyes this is to bad but it seems to bring out the worst in some of these people and I havent seen to much of the opposite in my 50 years in this hobby

I like my sound system and it is a hobby. Granted I don’t have these really expensive systems mentioned in the video but you know expensive is relative, so if had more money, why not more expensive toys for my hobby?

@@Elricky124 You don't have to justify yourself to me brother. I am constantly surprised at how agitated people become at comments from a complete stranger and how defensive they are over such a trivial issue. 😁
