“RBG”: New Documentary Celebrates Life of Groundbreaking Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

democracynow.org - One of the most talked-about documentaries at this year’s Sundance Film Festival looks at the groundbreaking life of the nearly 85-year-old Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. 2018 marks her 25th year on the court, and she has no plans to retire. Ginsburg first gained fame in the 1970s when she co-founded the Women’s Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union, where she argued six gender discrimination cases before the Supreme Court. In recent years, Ginsburg’s public profile has soared as the court has swerved to the right. Ginsburg often now finds herself on the dissenting side of opinions. We feature excerpts from the new film and speak with its directors, Julie Cohen and Betsy West.

RBG is a role model for all women with a brain and courage. May she stay on the Court for many many years to come. This is one American who has retained her ethics and morals with dignity and caring for our Society. She is a true rarity today! Thank you, Ruth Bader Ginsburg on behalf of all America.

Nazz Boner That is patently untrue. I am extremely moral, am pro abortion, have have had an abortion, am actively involved my community in a positive way, I don't have to answer "morally" in any way. Many religious people can be considered moral, in the case of Christians, support a bible that supports slavery and cruelty to women and children. Are you a man, or even worse, a woman?

Because I always, always read between the lines because it is always in black and white on white paper in black ink. (Is/was uploaded on January 22,2018)

The votes still would have been there to overturn roe if she had resigned and been replaced by another liberal. Likely the cutoff line would have been moved back from viability to 15 weeks. So a more "moderate" opinion.

@@kenlandon6130 thats not true. If we hired someone with her same values to replace her they would have voted to protect Roe. That would have been the 1 vote we were behind on and we would have won

@@buttermepancake3613 Yeah. But there were 6 votes to uphold the Mississippi 15-week ban law. Roberts, Alito, Kavanaugh, Barrett, Thomas, and Alito. Roberts' only quarrel was that he didn't want to overturn Roe entirely using that case but he was still willing to uphold the 15 week ban. So Roe would technically have survived but it would be gutted beyond recognition.

Exactly. She was not a good Justice at all. Instead of applying the law, she voted for outcomes. However, you'd never know that by the Senate Democrats during Judge Barrett's confirmation hearing. For them, Ginsburg was the best there will ever be.

C.A Franc if we don’t have idiots on the Supreme Court making dumb gun laws then there will be no reason for someone to try to take them. Further more; the military is not supposed to confiscate guns from citizens, liberals teach people to submit to authority so I understand your confusion. The constitution was written so the government would be afraid of the citizens, our founding fathers left a place that sucked and wrote the constitution for us, people have died to protect and preserve it. I’m tired of hearing about how things are in Europe, Europe sucks that’s why our founding fathers left
