RBA made the ‘scapegoat’ for government failures on cost of living

Sky News host Paul Murray says Australia is in a situation where any and every industry becomes the “scapegoat” for the government.
Mr Murray accuses the Labor government of dodging accountability for the cost of living crisis by blaming the Reserve Bank’s rate hikes and supermarket price gouging.
“The government pretends that they have no control, no capacity to be able to change the things that will change your life,” Mr Murray said.
“What we have is of course the great sport of bank bashing now being appropriated to other industries; industries that employ a lot of people, that pay a lot of tax.
“Today, we see that supermarkets are now going to put into the same position as banks have been - specifically the Reserve Bank.”

You actually believe what he says, don't you? You've just been brainwashed into forgetting what has happened in the past. This guy just lied to your face, saying it's the worst it's been since the 90s. Interest rates were as high as 4.75% in 2011 and 7.25% in 2008. Do you know what it was at the end of 1999? 4.75 to 5%. How about 2000? 5 to 6.25%. And WTF are you on about "This has got to be the worst government we've ever had" Either you are to young to know or too old and forgot, but the previous governments have tried burning the country to the ground, made 1/3 of the population loose their jobs and homes from incorrect information resulting in many deaths, repeatedly tried to sell Australia off to overseas company's and destroy it natural habitats, destroyed the manufacturing powerhouse Australia once was, allowing the worlds largest aquifer to be contaminated by reckless corporations; do i really need I go on? You are what's wrong with Australia, just a shell with Murdoch oozing out of every pore, I doubt you actually know anything about Australias past financial and political situations besides what these talking heads puke into your ears. Please read something, don't just rely on a biased media's rhetoric, think on your own for once in your life. You think a misguided referendum and a interest hike is the worst it has been?

Why did the Morrison government kick the can down the road in housing affordability? This mess has developed over a decade… maybe stop listening to these pork chops on sky news and the likes of Alan Jones and actually come up with an original thought 😂

Case in point Daniel Andrews pandemic policies, which trashed the ecomomy. Paying people to NOT work generates inflation. Small government with less power is the solution.

But businesses say they cannot afford wage rises that keep up with inflation let alone real inflation.

RBA is solely responsible for causing inflation by keeping rates too low for too long. The government is in charge of fiscal policy and RBA is to ensure currency and price stability. Interest rate kept at near zero for a number of years is madness and a disaster waiting to happen. On top of that our record profit making banks were given low interest loans from RBA during the 'pandemic'. Now we have a big dam of money feeding into inflating the property market. How are Australians going to afford million $ homes. Banks are so willing to lend to home buyers who could hardly afford to buy. The rising property market will force them into buying and they will be the first to suffer at the next recession. RBA governor has many investment homes. Is this not conflict of interest.

All industry’s that can bring Australia to its knees are demanding ridiculous pay increases, particular the public service sector. I was charged $330 for a speech to see my 5 year old for 45 minutes(NDIS) It’s the poor and the rich now. Increase interest rates and a 50% death tax on investment properties is the only way to give the future generation of a chance of ever owning a property (Japan managed to stop the rot in the 80s) I’m afraid this will not be the case here.

Australians fixation with interest rates is remarkable ,but the main with housing is nothing to do with the banks and mortgage raters. Personal income/affordability and new housing development is on the lowest points since 1940's . If you look for who is at fault you can easily blame Keating and Howard governments who ignored a very basic principal of social economics demand and affordability. Canada, UK and parts of US are in the same boat which is no surprise western style of monopoly/capitalism have no place in modern society.

The Coalition won't touch petrol tax. We're in a cost of living crunch engineered by the RBA to lower inflation. The RBA is an independent body. Lowe erred by announcing interest rates will be put on hold before raising it 13 or so times. He had lost credibility and had to go. Inflationary pressures are still ongoing so interest rates are on hold. With the upcoming tax breaks, free child care and interest rates expected to lower this year, the outlook is a little brighter. Australia is fairing well compared to other economies which are in full blown recession. At least they're responding by setting up enquiries. Give it a rest Murray. Your Coaltion buddies are in trouble with no policies except going nuclear.

Aww, come on Grim Jim. You've not the income to improve the cost of living. It's bad priorities stopping cost of living. Put a ban on private jet expenses, wasteful referander. Luxury travel arrangements that ALBO ,BOWEN, WONG luxuriate in. Luxury way above their level of competence demands. As for travel, with a company car I worked under the rule,if it's less than 4 hours travel to drive DRIVE. After all,to use in the course of fulfilling your work responsibilities is why that car is provided. OVER THE that Apply for right to book on a commercial flight. And, I wasn't driving a plus $100k car. And I actually DID answer any the phone CALL WHILE " I WAS IN THE CAR TO TRAVELING "
