RB Logging Miniature Yarder

This was a little yarder I made years ago to yard small alder trees that the aluminum smelting plants bought from me. It sat for many years until a friend of mine needed some trees thinned. Great Tonka toy for the kids. What was thought to be about 5-6 cords of wood ended up being about 20 cords we pulled out of there.

He hit the nail on the head in his song about the guy from the South!!! Here is the thing I’m from southeast Alabama and feel absolutely like a fish out of water! The best days of my life were sawing down Cottonwood and dragging them out with my old loggers dream right by myself (not recommended of course!) I’m 48 years old and just posted in Facebook yesterday about needing to line up jobs for chainsaw and cable logging. First comment I got was “good luck”. When I told somebody else this the other day first thing they said “who you gonna get to do your sawing” I quickly replied me. Everyone around here says I’m crazy for using chainsaws and cable and laughs at me. They don’t even think about you guys and people still work chainsaws and cables I reckon. This is the only style logging I love Anyhow I could go on and on Thank you so very much for the video as I am searching for an idea to build a mini yarder. I’m probably too old to set chokers in the northwest so guess I will just finish it out around here. Ha! So many things would have done different. Again thank you for the video and letting me get that off my chest. Lol!

Hey, thanks for that. I knew Buzz Martin and worked in the woods with his brother Jimmy. He bucked logs for me when I was falling timber. They were second generation loggers. Their father died in prison for killing a Chinese cook in a logging camp. I heard years ago that Buzz drowned up in Alaska on opening day of hunting season, something about getting hung up under a log and the tide came in and drowned him. Anyway, I like your family's style and it's good to see that the old ways and ingenuity haven't completely disappeared from Oregon...

Thanks for the history lesson that was awesome. I grew up listening to him now and again. Always am fascinated by highlead and enjoyed it some when working with a great crew.

There's plenty of large Operators out there, but I actually enjoy the smaller ones better, and seeing how they get it done in the woods. And, Logger Music? LMAO

That is the coolest thing I've seen for a long time! I've been around logging many years, (log trucks) but never got involved in the yarding. I need to thin trees on my property, do you have plans for that, that you might share or sell? Great job. Would like to see more videos of it.

WillC You said you were going to make another yarder. It's logging season! Did you make a new one? What are the specs and where's the video? What did you use for the mechanicals off the motor? Did you make them or were they store-bought? Thanks and Be Safe

@@northwestwildandfree1505 -- Would you mind doing a 'build' video detailing some of the parts and principles? I never worked under a tower (only a Link Belt), or I'd be familiar with the pulley system and breaks, etc more. I think I have enough junk around here to build one of these, with some guidance.
