Reyes was a good all around player, but not the best at any given discipline. Raymond is the best at balkline, and as you can see he outclassed Efren in every way. Efren hasn't even won world titles in carom or balkline, but Raymond was world champion over 30 times, Efren never was world champion of Balkline or carom not even once. He only has 1 WPA 8 and 9 ball world title, while people like Earl Strickland and SVB won 5 US Opens which no one else on earth has achieved.

Reyes was the first player ever to win world titles in two disciplines and is the best 8 ball, rotation, and 1P player ever. What planet are you from? The only reason he even knows how to play balkline and 3 cushion was because he had to play both those games from 1976-81 since no one would play him in pocket billiards.

This is not a new game....do some research on The Wizard Jake Schaffer and Jake Scheffer Jr..... Learning the history of the game will improve your game....learn all you can from these great players

Sir Raymond Ceulemans was/is a most amiable person to play Billiards with-and-against ; i count myself lucky and 'rich' that i ( as an 'eenvoudig' Café-player ! .. ) had the chance to play some 3-banks with him at his club in Mechelen , when he ruled the billiard-tables of the world , 40 years ago - in any of the various competitions , and it pleases me immensely to watch him , still playing well against many of the present- day champions .

Mr.Leppen is the referee for the game of extraordinary legends.

What is most amazing about this match is Efren playing against one of the greatest carom billiards players off all time and holding his own. I truly believe Efren to be the greatest ALL AROUND cue sport player of all time. There are not many if any carom players that can hold their own against top pro pool players playing pool and literally NO pro pool players (except Efren) that can play all disciplines of carom billiards at or near the level of the best carom players. And YES Efren plays snooker better than any other pool player I can think of...granted not as good as top snooker players but tell me this...who would you bet your money on in a match between Efren and Ronnie O...playing a race to 5 one pocket, race to 7 in 9-ball, best of 3 match to 25 points in 3 cushion, race to 3 in straight rail carom billiards to 100 points and a best out of 3 snooker match? For that matter name any player in the world (living or dead) that you would bet against Efren in the above mentioned scenario?? Maybe Harold Worst???

Phenomenal. Having played all those games, I can say that transitioning from 9-ball or snooker to carom games is a 10 difficulty. The feel of the balls is utterly different and so are the goals. Players like Blomdahl have a photographic memory of thousands of patterns and the cue skills to make the shots.

Robert Wong Actually this kind of game is the first game he learned since this game was more popular in early 70's pocket game just came later and his skills on cushioning help him a lot playing pocket pool..

I think Mark Selby would have the edge in that scenario you described. He was not only a world pool champion and awesome snooker player, but has intimate knowledge of angles.

Efren is a poor positional player, leaving himself difficult shots..... thereby seeming to be a great shot when he makes one of these shots that he left himself. His choice seems to be small table pool, where he is best suited.

Nobody plays snooker in the Philippines, nobody cares about it, he played only once as the government asked him to represent the philippines in south East asian games. He won gold after a week's practice and never played it again. The rocket, because he is the greatest snooker player of all time, played an 8 ball championship and got beat up badly by nobody's and never went back to pool. Went back to snooker where he is best suited.

the shot at 18:36 is the proof that spin transfer exists. Notice how Ceulemans shots with left hand spin which transfer right english to the white ball which is traveling in a straight line and when it catches the rail immediately it goes to the right. I'm amazed there are people ( many snooker players) who don't believe spin transfer exists.

Are there lines on the table that we're not seeing?

search for Balkline 71-2 on you tube and watch some types of the game (47-1 , 47-2 or 71-2).You' ll see there how the table is separated with a chalk pencil in 6 or 9 parallelograms (depending on the game) or squares (including the small parallelograms elsewhere the balk lines shear the rails). Note that the OB1 and OB2 must not remain together in any of the squares or parallelograms more than 2 hits (or 1 hit for the 47-1) because that would me a penalty.

This discipline is only interesting to watch if you are a good player yourself. Three cushion, 9 ball and snooker are games to appreciate even if you can't play.

Efren was impressive, but Ceulemans was just god-like. Unbelievable knowledge.

When you are looking for Efren before a match he’s somewhere playing Chess.... Just a Class Act, with a Great among of Humility. He will play on a opponent level an as soon as the opponent show any aggression.... He becomes the Teacher !!!

What part of Canada are you in? There used to be a few in Calgary but the place closed down. I've heard there are some in Quebec but never been there myself. I know for sure we don't have any in Saskatchewan unfortunately

The only, ONLY impediment that I can see Efren would have with Snooker, is he is so short, and the table so massive, that, I wonder if he would have trouble reaching shots, and yes I know there is the rake!

with balkline 71/2 you may make 2 points in the area, after that, ball 2 or ball 3 must exit but may come back eventually.

if you watch , you can see Mr. Ceulemans do a 3 cushion-shot early when he comes into the game , he does that to get all the balls close to each other at a convenient spot for him toeasily continue .

It's easy, one player has the red ball and one has the yellow ball. And you're supposed to hit the other 2 balls with your ball. Every time the player succeeds to hit the orher 2 balls they get a point. There are other variations where you also have to hit 3 cusions (which is a crazy technical game),etc. I would recommend all pool players to play this game, it teaches a lot about angles and how the balls behave after they have been hit.

They are playing balkline 71.2 (cm). The ball never crossed the mid-table line.

Before Efren Reyes became a pool player, he was already good in carom and 3 cushion billiards..

Not true. He started with rotation (or 61) as many filipinos do then we he was on the top of his game on the 1970s nobody wants to play with him anymore. And that's why he played carom for awhile and learn the nuance of it. Chiquito (filipino actor) who plays good carom was one of his formidable opponent that time.

balkline is difficult when you are a pool player. Hats off Reyes.

From what I understand, Efren focused on carom early in his career, but shifted his attention to pool because the money was better. During an interview, he actually said that balkline is his favorite game.

Actually if you check efren’s profile on wikipedia, it says there that his favorite cue sports is balkline and during his free time he plays chess

instead of the commentators guessing what shot they'll take why dont they just watch the bloody game and then comment after the shots. Ruined the match. Watched it 2nd time with volume off :-(

What would be the point of even having them on here then. They're there to explain things and make it a little more entertaining. Long moments of silence isn't good for that and people would lose interest.

@@jaf00181 - well , Adam , i know that the commentators are very knowledgeable champion Billiard-players , but here they really overdo it with their commentaries ; i watch almost every mayor snooker competition ( - being a billiards-player myself .. ) and i have to say snooker is WAY better 'presented' , especially at the visual level , but also in as far as commentary , and other , irritating , background noise(s) : stupid , distracting music often and public having their 'conversations' !!!

Manufacturing defect, they forgot to put holes on table.

Spin Transfer on a snooker table probably doesn't exist (if not with extreme english / pace). Rails on international tables are more sensitive with english than snooker ones. I know because when I play 5 pins (same table of carom) I consider rails in a total different way compared to when I'm playing snooker. Moreover balls are bigger and heavier in carom games and that makes spin transfer easier. (sorry for my bad english...and I'm not talking about side :-)

Rule is you have to hit any of the 2 balls first,then it should hit the rails then it should hit the other ball..simple

You just don't have quite enough brain to understand this game. You must be a typical average American pool player.

Spin transfer as far as I've heard exists with the bigger balls like these. Snooker is played with smaller, lighter balls. For that reason, spin transfer is not a factor in snooker. That's probably why snooker players don't believe in it. They don't know any better.

I play lots of 8 and 9 ball. Dont know about snooker but spin transfer is a thing. Theres tutorial videos on how to use it. Do this once. Put the cue ball a few inches from another ball. Aim straight on and put left on it and it will make the ball go right. I hear people all the time while im shooting saying im gonna miss how im aimed, but i use spin to correct my "bad aim" and get position where i need. Can make a ball kick more or less off a rail with spin too

Spin transfer is definitely a thing in snooker. It's more subtle but good players not only believe in it but account for/use it.

There are 2 cue balls (1 for each player) and a red "object ball". You have to hit your cue ball into both the opponent's cue ball and the object ball with the same shot, as many times in a row as you can. As you can see by watching this means you often have to plan angles for many rail bounces which is very difficult, as well as consider ending up with a good arrangement for your next shot when the balls stop moving. More difficult than regular pool I would say.

if u can play 3 rail billiards, then you can easily spot positioning on any pool game. if you cant play position on your next shot within three rails, you just plain put the cue ball in a bad spot

reyesn is a great poolplayer , but really.... he played nice 3 cushion of balkline... but is in this disciplines a avege player. I can not remember that a poolplayer wins at a caromtabel.
