    The Quantum 2 radar does not have Dual Range capability. That particular feature is in our HD Color radomes and our Magnum open array radar. You can display the radar in more than one window, or on more than one MFD, but they will always show the same range scale.

    I have a MFD A128 tied to an EV200 Autopilot question. When running on a route and you encounter an object where you have to alter the course what is the best way to alter the course and then resume the waypoint?

  • @RaymarineInc

    @RaymarineInc

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hello John. The easiest way to do this is to use the autopilot control head to dodge the obstacle. If you have a controller with a rotary knob (p70Rs for example) you can simple dial the knob to port or starboard as needed to maneuver around the object. With a push-button pilot you could use the +10 or -10 buttons (or repeated presses) to initiate a dodge of 10, 20, 30 degrees etc. To resume navigation to your waypoint you will want to re-engage track mode. On the pilot controller press Mode..Track (to engage)....Track (a second time, to confirm.)

    When using a Quantum 2, presumably small targets hidden by the ship heading marker will still by detected by ARPA and, if guard zones are set, an alarm would still be triggered?

  • @RaymarineInc

    @RaymarineInc

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes. If a guard zone or ARPA auto-acquire zone is setup, it should detect that target. Keep in mind though that any target small enough to be hidden by the ship's heading marker is likely very small or intermittent in nature. It's still good practice to periodically turn off the SHM to look underneath it.

It will still require a single-transducer operation adapter cable if you are only attaching 1 B175 to your system. B175-series transducers can be installed as singles or pairs. Due to my garage door vertical restriction I can only mount Quantum dome radar in the bow section of my 20' bayliner fishing boat. This will be at the captains eye level sitting behind tempered front glass windshield. How safe is it from waves transmitted? Will I have to place metal shield behind dome to protect boat captain? I've heard hat solid state dome Quantum emits little to zero radiation.

  • @RaymarineInc

    @RaymarineInc

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hello Bogdan. The radiation levels emitted by Quantum are radars are very, very low. They are actually lower than what Smartphones and mobile phones emit so there should be no adverse effects from mounting and operating it there. If you are installing a Quantum 2 radar, that model also supports sector blanking. You can actually define a no-transmit zone in the radar's sweep. In your case you could define a sector say from 170° to 190° (relative) which would prevent the radar from transmitting in the direction of the console. You'll find that in the radar app under Menu...Settings....Installation tab.

    Hi, just a question besides of the radar setup. I have changed all my electronics system to the newer Raymarine products, and I will be using an Axiom 9 RV with cpt-s dv transducer, along side with i70s mfd. I had an old speed transducer which is connected to the ITC-5 module, but as read the seatalkng manual, it says that I shouldn't get the same data from two different sources. So my question is; as the axiom gets the speed data from gps, does the speed xducer interfere with axioms speed data when I'm monitoring them on i70s? And can I see the depth and temp data on the i70s through axiom? Thanks

  • @RaymarineInc

    @RaymarineInc

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Tugkan. Speed from the GPS and speed from the paddle wheel connected to your ITC-5 module are actually considered completely different item. Its to your advantage to have both connected. Your GPS receiver reports Speed Over Ground, while the paddlewheel sensor reports Speed Through Water. If you Axiom and i70s instruments have access to both values they can use them to do some advanced calculations. For example, knowing the difference between ground speed and water speed, plus the boat's heading (from a compass) and course over ground (from GPS) your system can tell you the speed and direction of the current in real-time.

    Hello, I have recently upgraded from an a97 with a digital raydome to an axiom 12 pro s. I would also like to purchase an axiom 9+ for use at the chart table but I don’t know how to connect the two together in order to get full chartplotter AND radar on this slave display. Does the raydome connect via a standard Raynet cable, if so could I plug it into a Raynet network switch and then a network cable to each mfd? BTW these are excellent and very informative KZread videos.

    Hi Mike. Thanks for watching the Live series! Your Digital radar can be connected to both an Axiom 12 Pro S and Axiom 9+ simultaneously. The radar and Axiom screens all support our RayNet high speed Ethernet protocol. You can either use a network switch and then connect the radar and both screens to it, or, you do have 2 RayNet ports on the Axiom 12 Pro. Connect the Axiom 9 to one of them, and the radar to the other. Digital radomes have a split RayNet cable. At the bottom one side is used to feed power to the antenna. The other side has the Ethernet connection. Depending on the age of your radar it could have either a RayNet waterproof round connector (ready to plug-in directly to Axiom or the HS-5 switch) or it could have an RJ-45 Ethernet connector (similar to what you'd see on a home or office Ethernet cable.) We do offer a waterproof adapter cable to convert it to RayNet if needed. The part number is A80247.

    This is actually a question from when you did your networking piece. How do you connect raynet to seatalk-ng?

  • @RaymarineInc

    @RaymarineInc

    3 жыл бұрын

    RayNet and SeaTalk NG are 2 different protocols and don't connect to each other. Raynet is the name for Raymarine's marinized high-speed Ethernet network. Raynet is used to link together MFDs, radar scanners, sonar black boxes, cameras and other high-bandwidth devices. SeaTalk NG is a variant of the NMEA2000 CAN-bus network. It carries lower-bandwidth information like navigation data, engine data, depth, speed, wind, etc. It is used to link together MFDs, autopilots, instruments and sensors. Internally our multifunction displays like Axiom can bridge data from one network to the other. For example if you have an Axiom MFD in one location that is connected to both RayNet and SeaTalk NG, additional Axiom MFDs only need to be connected to RayNet, as the SeaTalk NG information will be bridged onto the RayNet high-speed network and transmitted that way. This capability makes it easier to install MFDs at remote locations as it simplifies the wiring required to support them.

    It sounds like you are seeing other vessels from an Automatic Identification System (AIS) receiver. On your chart you can turn them on/off by going to Menu...Settings...Layers and toggling AIS. AIS contacts can be displayed on the Chart as well as in the radar app. If you don't have an AIS transceiver on your boat, the targets could be coming from your VHF radio. Many newer VHF models have a built-in AIS receiver that picks up the AIS data from other nearby vessels, but does not necessarily transmit your boat's information.

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for watching and posting, John. B175 transducers can be installed individually, or in pairs. If you are installing only a single B175 you will need to add the single operation cable adapter. The part number is A80328. The presence of that cable tells the Axiom Pro RVX, CP470, CP570 or RVX-1000 that there is not a second transducer connected. If you don't have this in place, the sonar will not see the transducer at all. B175 transducers also have only short pigtail cables on them. This is to accommodate them being used in pairs. Be sure to order a transducer extension cable of suitable length to get from the transducer to your sonar. We offer them in 3-meter (A102148), 5-meter (A102150) or 10-meter (A80327) lengths. In the future if you decide to add a second B175 transducer in a different frequency band you'll remove the single-operation cable from the line. Install the second transducer in the boat, join the pair of B175's with a Y-Cable (A102146) and use the same extension to connect them to your MFD or sonar module.

    Hello Jason. Since clouds are so high up you can generally see them pretty far away, nearly to the maximum range of the radar scanner. 12 miles and well beyond is not uncommon. Storm clouds have quite a bit of density to them so they show up very well.

  • @RaymarineInc

    @RaymarineInc

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi John. I think what you have there is an Axiom Pro 12 RVX and a GA150 GPS sensor accessory. The Axiom Pro's internal GPS is still doing all the work but the signal is coming from the GA150 rather than the embedded antenna under the glass. As long as the GA150 is connected securely to its connection port, and the antenna has a clear view of the sky, the Axiom Pro 12 RVX should get a fix right away. If you happen to be in a location that has some blockage of the sky that could slow things down. The alternative configuration is you could have your Axiom Pro MFD plus a Raystar 150 GPS sensor. The Raystar 150 is different from the GA150 in that it is a complete GPS receiver, independent of anything inside Axiom. If you are running this antenna on the network you'll need to select it as the preferred GPS source. From Axiom's home screen go to Settings.....Network....Data Sources. Select the GPS tab and it will list out all of the sources for GPS that are present on the network. Touch the Raystar 150 to select it as the preferred source.

  • @RaymarineInc

    @RaymarineInc

    Hi Matt. One of the key features of the Quantum Doppler radar is its short-range target detection capability. To take maximum advantage of that capability it would be preferable to have it mounted lower, rather than higher, on the boat. There are always practical limitations as to how low you can go though. For example, best short-range performance would come from mounting the Quantum 2 right over the bow. That's not really a practical place to put it though because it blocks your line of sight, it subject to more direct water, and it's in the way of your anchor too. Plus its visibility astern is compromised and your passengers will probably not like being so close to it (though proximity/radiation is not really an issue with Quantum scanners due to its low power, solid-state transmitter.) Feel free to snap a few pics of your boat and email them to me at james.f.mcgowan@raymarine.com and I can make a suggestion.

On the other screen, i couldnt get the radar to scan or really do anything. I read on a message board to try shutting on the declutter. I did that and the depths and contours appeared. Hello Tony. You may want to give us a call from the boat so we can talk you through this. In the USA our number is 1-800-539-5539. Here are a few things to get you going in the right direction though. What you are seeing on the chart with the declutter is unrelated to the radar scanner issues. In the chartplotter mode on the E120 displays, the declutter setting allows you to simplify the appearance of the chart rapidly by stripping away some of the layers of chart information that are not essential to navigation. Navionics digital charts are vector charts, meaning all of the content you see on-screen is stored as seperate layers in a database on the map card. You can potentially turn on so many different layers of information at the same time that at some range scales, these items will overlap each other making the overall chart unreadable. The Declutter control takes a pre-determined number of these layers and makes the switchable on/off with a single control. Your radar scanner's behavior is not related to the declutter setting. The radar scanner is accessible to both of your E120 displays. Within the radar app you can switch the radar scanner between its Standby (not transmitting) and Transmit modes. If you are not seeing radar targets when in transmit you'll want to check the radar range scale to make sure its appropriate for the distance you can see. Check also the settings for radar Gain and Sea Clutter. I recommend starting them in automatic mode. The radar will will determine the best levels for the present conditions, and then you can manually adjust from there. It is also possible if you are not seeing targets there could be an issue with the radar scanner or its interconnect cable. There are some diagnostics our team can bring up with you on the phone to check the performance of the scanner to rule that out. The Course Over Ground (COG) value comes from your GPS receiver. COG is only accurate when the boat is moving. GPS can not deliver an accurate COG when the boat is stationary because COG is calculated by comparing the boats position between fixes. Unless the boat has moved from fix-to-fix, the GPS cannot determine a direction of movement. In addition to COG, your E120s can also display Heading. Heading always comes from an electronic compass sensor or from the boat's autopilot. Heading is accurate regardless of boat speed, and that is why when possible, its nice to have both inputs, COG and Heading, to the navigation system. For example, on the chartplotter display, the icon of your boat is plotted by the GPS position, COG and Speed Over Ground (SOG.) The orientation of the icon comes from the boat's Heading, if available, otherwise it comes from the GPS' COG. If your boat supports both COG and Heading, you might be seeing the boat icon on the chartplotter looking like it is crabbing, moving sideways, or maybe even backwards. Unless you were in very strong wind or current, this condition would typically be caused by the compass sensor being out-of-calibration. When moving, the GPS position and speed is moving the icon across the chart, but the compass heading is the reference point for the rotation of the boat icon and setting its bow position.

    Hi David. The Axiom 7 does work pretty well for radar. One thing that works to its advantage is the definition of its screen, which give it enough pixels to render a detailed image even on a small screen. Its funny how technology changes. 10 years ago, the 7-inch screen would have been one of the larger sizes available out there.

On the E120 you'll want to tap the power key momentarily to display its quick-access menu. Un there you will see controls for Scanner On/Off and Radar TX/Standby. Switch the scanner from off to on and it will wake up and begin its warmup period (about 60 seconds.) It will go into Standby mode when it is warmed up and ready for use. At any time after that you can go to "TX" or Transmit mode. The radar will spin up and begin showing an image within a sweep or 2. Any time you want to stop transmission tap the power key and go from TX back to STBY (Standby). The radar will stop spinning and transmitting, but remains warmed up and ready.

  • @RaymarineInc

    @RaymarineInc

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hello Roger. The anchor drift alarm is part of the chartplotter application. Go to the chart, touch Menu...and select the large mode button in the menu that says Anchor to start the process. It is designed to be sort of step-by-step. The anchor mode takes into account a bunch of measurements about the boat, the water depth, the length of chain you have deployed, and even the position of your GPS antenna on the boat. The first time you use it you'll be prompted to enter your boat's length and the distance from the bow to your GPS antenna, if you have not entered them before. The anchor mode suggest by default that you'll use 4 times with water depth for your length of anchor chain. You can adjust that if you want to use more or less chain. It will prompt you to bring the boat into the wind and tide, and head towards your anchoring point. When you're at the spot you'll lower the anchor and when it hits bottom, touch the "Mark Anchor Position" button. This records the GPS position of the anchor and establishes the center of your possible swing circle. You'll then continue paying out chain while backing down or drifting back to the length you specified. When you've payed out the right amount of chain you'll hit the "Chain Out" button. Once you determine the anchor is holding you'll hit the DONE/Alarm On button to activate the system. It shows you in real-time the boat's position in the anchorage, your swing circle and drag radius. If it detects that the boat's GPS antenna has drifted beyond the swing-circle and into the drag radius, it will alarm. There is a detailed set of illustrated instructions for this feature in the latest Lighthouse 3 Advanced Operating handbook staring on page 173. You can download the PDF here: raymarine.app.box.com/s/3t839g2xf6nko4n0h9re535140rknnpz We issue a new version of the handbook every time we update the LightHouse Software so all the new features are documented.

    The radar alarm is another feature, found in the radar app. You can setup a guard zone around the boat and adjust its sensitivity. Should a target enter the guard zone it will alarm. You can use it to help alert you to an approaching vessel. You could also potentially use it to augment the anchor drift alarm by setting the radius of the radar alarm just shy of the radar return of the shoreline. If you start to drift towards the beach, it would trigger the alarm when the radar return of the shoreline gets inside the alarm circle. For both of these alarm features, I highly recommend trying them out a few times on a nice calm, clear day to get the feel of them and see how they work. Get comfortable with them and understand how they work before you anchor for the night and go to sleep.

    Roger, I had this question as well, in particular distinguishing an Anchor alarm from a Drift alarm. I don't yet have a depth sounder on N2K, so Anchoring feature does not work, however the Position Drift Alarm still does. In the alarms interface, you select it "on" and select the radius. With the drift alarm you can settle on the hook and then set a radius smaller than your chain out so that it'll wake you if the wind clocks a lot at night, even if you haven't draagged.

  • @RaymarineInc

    @RaymarineInc

    Жыл бұрын

    Hello Alexander. I am guessing that you have a radome (enclosed) antenna and can't tell if it is rotating or not. There is a drive mechanism, typically a motor and pulley with a belt drive, that spins the radar. If you are seeing this after the radar competes its warm-up countdown, then something is wrong in the drive mechanism. You could power down the system, remove the dome cover, and inspect it for any obvious issues. Check that the belt is there, and that the antenna, belt, and motor spin by hand and are not jammed. If the visual inspection does not reveal anything, it should be looked at by a qualified service technician or our repair center. I see you also mentioned it being a "Raytheon" radar. If that is the brand-name on it, its an older model. After a visual inspection you may wish to check in with our support team to see if parts are still available to repair it. You can open a ticket at raymarine.custhelp.com and attach a few photos of it.

    Hello John. Radar overlay needs either a compass sensor, or, for the boat to be in motion in order for it to render. If you have an autopilot or compass linked it provides magnetic heading to the MFD that it uses to properly align the radar layer with the chart underneath. With a compass present, radar overlay works both underway and stopped because the system always know which way the boat is pointed.. If you don't have a compass in your system then GPS course over ground (COG) is used to align radar and chart. Accurate course over ground can only be generated when the boat is moving because it is derived by plotting the boat's track over time. When you're moving, COG is generated and radar overlay will render. When you stop the COG can tumble and become very inaccurate so radar overlay is suspended. If it were left on the radar picture could become very severely mis-aligned with the chart, leading to lots of confusion. If this is the case on your boat, there are a couple of things to check. In your chart app press MENU....Settings (the 3 gears icon) and first select the Layers tab. Scroll down and turn the radar layer on. Next, touch the ADVANCED tab. The 4th item down is a switch labeled "Use Radar without heading data." Make sure that is turned on and get your boat moving. Radar overlay should be displayed.

    I have a quantum 2 on wifi and also wired via Raynet, how can I use the Raynet so I don't have to connect via wifi via my Axiom 12+ or Axiom 9+ because raynet will be faster then wifi. I have both Axioms connected to raynet and also the quantum is connected to the same switch. I see it in the network when I first connect to it via Wifi, but how can I directly connect to it.

  • @RaymarineInc

    @RaymarineInc

    21 күн бұрын

    You can revert your Quantum 2 radar back to using its wired connection by following these steps: 1. On ALL of your Axiom displays, temporarily turn off their Wi-Fi access points. You can do so by going to Home...Setings...This Display...and flip the switch to the off position next to "Allow devices to connect via Wi-Fi." You may get a warning message about being connected to a Quantum radar. In this case, ignore the warning and proceed to turn off the Wi-Fi on all displays. 2. Power-cycle the Quantum radar scanner by turning off its breaker, pulling and restoring its fuse, or disconnecting then reconnecting its power connection. 3. Allow the Quantum radar about 60 seconds to restart. Open the radar app on any of your Axiom displays and confirm that it can see your radar by putting it into transmit. The Quantum is now running on its wired connection. You can now turn the Wi-Fi back on in your MFDs if you need it for other functions. The radar will use the wired connection only. If you need to activate the radar's Wi-Fi connection in the future you'll need to run through the process to link it by going to Home...Settings...This Display...Pair with Quantum. Note, if you have more than one Axiom display onboard, and are connecting a Quantum via Wi-Fi, the link is not limited to just the display which you originally used to configure the Wi-Fi connection. In the background, once a Wi-Fi link has been established with one Axiom, the Quantum radar also negotiates a Wi-Fi link with all other Wi-Fi enabled Axioms onboard. It does this for backup/failover protection in case the link to the first Axiom is interrupted or lost. This allows the Quantum radar to instantly switch over to the next strongest Wi-Fi connection on the boat. Anytime the system is started up, the Quantum radar will automatically connect via Wi-Fi to whichever Axiom offers the strongest signal. You don't need to choose which display it connects with. Even if the Wi-Fi was disabled on one or more secondary Axiom displays, the next time their Wi-Fi access point is enabled, and Quantum is on, it will negotiate those connections automatically and save them for possible future use.

    Hi John. Auto-routing is only supported with Navionics or C-MAP charts so you need to make sure you are running one or the other. Navionics charts also need to be activated before they will let you use their Dock-to-Dock Autorouting. C-MAP charts don't have that requirement. To activate your Navionics chart you'll need to plug it into a computer with internet access, visit Navionics.com, and use the link on their homepage to Activate/Update a chart. Once that is done, the autoroutingiption will appear in the Chart's context sensitive popup. Long press on the spot you want to go to, select More Options, then Autoroute to Here. It's also important to make sure your boat details are setup (Home...Settings....Boat Details.) Auto Routing will use the values for draft, height and width in its route generation.

    What does “Use radar without Heading” mean?

  • @RaymarineInc

    @RaymarineInc

    3 жыл бұрын

    In our chart application we offer a feature called Radar Overlay that drops the live radar sweep in on top of the navigation chart. To properly align the radar image with the chart the system needs to know the boat's compass heading. There are 2 potential sources for this information. The preferred and most accurate source is the boat's digital compass sensor, often part of an autopilot system. We prefer to use this sensor for heading because it works at all speeds, and even when the boat is stationary. Not every boat has an autopilot or digital compass though. The other place we can get a nearly-equivalent data source is from the GPS receiver in the form of its Course Over Ground (COG) calculation. The downside to using COG only is that it lags during high speed maneuvers, is not accurate at very slow speeds, and is highly inaccurate or unavailable when the boat is stationary. When moving at steady course and speed it does provide a reading accurate enough to properly align the radar and chart for overlay purposes. Though it is not ideal, we do allow you to make use of the radar overlay feature even if your boat is not fitted with a digital compass sensor. The "Use Radar without heading data" toggle allows you to enable that.

A popup menu appears and there is a button there to bring the radar from off to standby, or standby to transmit. If you open the radar app, you should also have a control there to do it. If for some reason it is not responding to commands to wake up I would first try cycling the power to the radar scanner so it restarts its onboard systems.
