10:52 its because they are all the same resolution. you said it yourself. its running at 1080 upscaled to 4k. the compression algorithim doesnt diffrenciate from resolution. it just takes what it has compresses it so your gpu can handle it better and then spits out inbetween frames so you can have higher fps. DLSS and similar applications arnt useless dude. clearly that have a use. with out DLSS you wont be able to try out this new mod and thus not make a YT video about it.

NFSUG1 has 20+ year old assets that harshly contrast with the RTX mod. RTX mod can't shine when we can clearly see the polygons of cars and buildings. The low quality trees also stand out thanks to RTX remix, so they need to be reworked. The old school reflections should be enabled alongside RT reflections since they clearly look better than RT at this state. Long story short, this game needs months if not years of work before applying this mod to look actually good (aka remake).

i get that they're trying to go for realistic lighting but most of the assets in the game were brighter than you would probably expect from a night-time setting because you'll be able to see your personalized car more predominately. every car with this mod just looks dark metallic

Keep in mind that game doesn't utilise PBR and POM, most of the replaced textures are just upscale, so it's basically only lights were added. So people ... I will be frank here ! 99% of you just doesn't see why rtx remix is actually a blessing for modder ! It is capable of replacing model texture (upscale too) and new light and render engine IN 1 GO ! It make it so mush easier and faster to do so ! And with the help of the new engine, you can use new standard textures on old game ! You don't need to enable pathtracing ! You can just do new model and texture if you want ! It will be just a option for who want it ! Next pathtracing is better in everyway for realism ! BUT REALISM LOOK BAD ! ?? So why are you taking a hotel in another contry for your vacancy? Bc some place look AMAZING! Where i want to get is : if you have realism you can recreate every look possible! You want underground style ? You can ! Just put the effort to edit every location and light sources ! IT TAKE TIME AND A LOT OF PEOPLE TO DO IT !!! so blame yourself for not been able to do it ! Not the tech that make it possible! Dlss look CRAP! Yes bc it is made for portal !!! The current remix engine is in beta !!! Try understanding that this is what we can do with a BETA !! How mush it can improve is unknown! Next is this glitchy effect on curu screen ! It is due to low framerates ! And lack of ray casting ! Modder have to cut fidelity for perf bc it's not well optimise right now ! Modder just want some people to see future potential and recruit new "worker" or passionate people to help !!! Also it make old player want to come back to theses games ! This below is my opinion on visual (do not take it for yourself! Just for sharing) I don't like the light up version! IT LOOK FAKE ! why ? Bc in reality when you drive it look darker ! But it's still a game, and you need to see ! My conclusion is that modder need to add more light source ! Like in real life! Road are illuminated for a reason ! Og game didn't need it bc it was a filter ! With pathtracing come realism ! So you need to account for it ! That's it boys ! Hope no one take my comment personally! HAVE FUN ! EVEN IF YOU PREFER OG GAME ! THAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT! thank to curu for always putting so mush passion on this !

The problem with open world games is LOD and culling. They rely heavily on those techniques to achieve realistic and proper performance. Without them those games wouldn't have been playable. However this does not play well with RTX given that it needs proper geometry data to path trace the scene. So if the game keeps switching models and hiding stuff that will make the path traced output change every so often causing distractions like pop in and erroneous lighting and so on

Just to make people understand why these types of mods are hard to run for modern graphics cards: It's not RAYTRACING It's PATH TRACING Raytracing uses 1 light bounce to calculate light, and afterwards it becomes straight up rasterized lighting like older games. It's why the difference between regular rasterized graphics and raytracing generally only is visible in things like reflections Path tracing on the other hand bounces at the very least 2 times (though can be set to however high your PC can handle it). This is the experimental shit that Cyberpunk introduced for instance. It replaces EVERY lightsource in a game (so either point lights, directional lights, area lights, emissive materials etc) and calculates at the very least 2 light bounces within the world. This is stuff a 3D program like Blender or 3D Studio Max needs MINUTES for to do per frame, yet your GPU needs to do 60 frames of them a second (with DLSS enabled, unless you're running a 4090) That's why it's so hard That's also why it looks so different from the original game (and in a lot of ways, straight up better due to actual shadows forming where they should, light actually affecting things around them due to global illumination and such) Please learn the differences between these terms because too many people call this Raytracing and don't understand what's actually going on under the hood

21:16 ok, so ill say why its the truth, unless you're making a very stylised game, modeling anything in a realistic settings takes time, unlike the time where Midnight Club had 3 open worlds, take a look at the amount of detail in those maps, how the makes are modeled, how much of it is just square shapes with textures, at the time? That was acceptable....not anymore. Look at the details of Forza 4 and 5, NFS Heat and Unbound, hell, even Gran Turismo, the amount of detailing, modeling, texturing, programming and testing went from a lvl 20 to a lvl 200 in less than 30 years, devs barely have the time to make 1 open world now, let alone 3, hell, we got a dev from Forza Motorsport that talked on how the 20 tracks he was going to help make had to be cut down to about 5 because the company refused to keep other devs working on it and he himself was cut off from the game weeks before launch. So the issue with this isn't that they cant, they aren't allowed to even try with the current state of the industry.

Is an RTX remix of this game really even necessary? I feel like the reflections were the only graphical effect that aged pretty well in this game (especially with the HD Reflections mod). Not a lot of games from the early 2000s had honest-to-god real-time reflections like UG1 did (they usually opted for pre-generated cubemaps or some wonky post-processing solution). The vanilla lighting does look pretty bad, but implementing DLSS and raytracing, and all the ghosting that comes with these features being implemented in a fast-paced arcade racer, just to add some global illumination and a few dynamic blinking lights around the maps seems like overkill at best and a genuinely bad idea at worst. That all being said, I think RTX Remix does enable the (relatively) easy swapping of models and textures with higher-fidelity ones. It also allows the user to manually place light sources too. That TLC kind of approach seems like the only real path forward to make this work and substantially improve the visuals IMO. Any of the broad brush/automatic tweaks and changes you see in a lot of these new RTX projects just isn't gonna work for this game. It's artstyle is too strong and intentional to be automated.

Same as with the games you like now, 10-15 years from now people from that generation will consider them to look like crap, which you will disagree with. For 2003 standards, UG's innovation was nothing short of revolutionary. The previous title in the series was NFS: HP2, which while being legendary as well, it was just a bog-standard racing game with police in it. UG released the next year, and the sheer content it brought along (customization, multiple race events, an entire campaign, online cross-play in 2003!!), it was bound to be critically acclaimed. It objectively still does some things better than the modern NFS games.

@@tevonjames6668 I mean, my first NFS game was NFS II SE (1997), and I have played every game since, so I might be a bit biased with nostalgia (trust me I am not that old). But while HP2 was one of my favorite games as a kid, i can't help but praise how much more content and variety NFS UG had compared to HP2, granted I didn't play a lot of it back then just because i didn't want to bother with a story and just wanted to race cool exotic cars instead of flashy vibrant tuners. But retrospectively, you have to agree that UG was a step in the right direction for NFS, because the whole exotic cars on closed circuits formula was getting stale at that point. My favourite game was NFS PU (2000) on the PC, it was actually amazing, it had an actual in-depth used car market system, you could buy used cars, fix them up, and then flip them a couple of years later for profit. Cars would actually skyrocket in value as they became antique, so if you bought a 356A in the year 1956 for $13000, it would have increased tenfolds in value by the ingame year 1990. Maintaining old cars costed you more as the years went on, because you actually had to buy individual parts. It literally had everything you wanted from a racing game. These features had me hooked for years to come up. Too bad that the game was limited to licensing constraints, so it only had Porsches. But a great game nonetheless.

While the Path Tracing looks good (to an extent), it not only completely destroys the art style/direction, but it also looks horrible once you start moving at a faster speed. As others have said, it makes the game look like a low budget Unity/Unreal Steam release where the developer relies on the game engine itself to do all of the graphical heavy lifting. I understand that this will probably look *much* better in a year or two, but I don't know how much better the game can look without updating textures and models.

Seems that a lot of people in the comments didn't look at the mod before criticizing it. It clearly states on the mod page that this is an WIP Alpha and is nowhere close to being finished. It's probably being made by some guy in his free time and they most likely released it because they want feedback on bugs and glitches etc. Don't see why people are so critical of this when it is a free mod that you don't have to download if you don't want to.

As i've already commented in a different video. Changing lighting completely changes the whole feel of the game and it requires rework of all the assets and lighting settings to look good. I'll pass on those rtx mods. The nfs mw 2005 rtx looks even worse than this though imo

I do feel like for an old game, this shit is too excessive and unnecessary Imo it doesn't make the game look any good, if anything it takes away the game's original vibes This is what I personally dislike about people trying to "Remaster" these games, they don't think about the performance and only think about what looks cool and end up making a mess Suffice to say, this is garbage, don't get these if you want a remaster

Underground1 was fine in it's vanilla form, no "updates" or "paid content" needed. Just a full SUCCESSOR in U2 in less than a year... We(car guys and racing game enthusiasts) favored the passion they put into the CAR TUNING that gave a sense of realism in an "arcade racer🤓"not so much graphics... Dam, since I gotta spell sht out Unbound still a game made for kids that need assistance •Low Budget •Lacks Value •Poorly Executed •No Direction •IT WAS FCKIN NERFED •Handling made for Children not Us •MOBILE GAME HANDLING MODEL •High Potential Low Asset Utilization But aite.... ray tracing look good on it too

"Handling made for Children" Yeah that's the point, it's an arcade game, literally all NFS games apart from the Shift games are. "•Low Budget" then "•High Bugdet, Low Asset Utilization" Pick one point. And no one was talking about Unbound here?

But ok, everybody gone RUN to the word ARCADE as a cover up... Do you know that NFSU1 was ACTUALLY IN ARCADES and still has the same handling from the console version and STILL plays better than this new gen kiddie game named Uncalled for, I mean, Unbound?
