Merciless Mercer is one of the most dangerous heavyweight of all time. It's obvious at how he gave Lenox Lewis a war.

Ray was a hard hitting fighter that gave everybody trouble 🥊 Beautiful knockout!

Slept him and woke him up 4 times in the same round.😂

I remember that fight well; everything looked good for The Duke (RIP) in the early rounds, though Ray’s ability to shrug off some really hard punches hinted at trouble ahead for Tommy. When Tommy started to tire, Ray caught him w/a few clean shots, from which Tommy never really recovered. Thus, it was that “Merciless” Mercer stone chin that made all the difference. Tommy simply couldn’t absorb the same level of punishment, at least not to the head. Ray had one of the best chins in boxing.

This is a perfect example of a corner that didn't pull the plug when they should have and how one fight can destroy a fighter forever.

Few fighters can handle the power they dish out. This fight shows what happens when you can....and when you can't.

I was at that fight, I thought Ray had killed Tommy, his head was looking like a rag doll from them devastated blows he took. Tommy was never the same, he started taking Ped’s an whatever else to get him back.

Ref waited to late to stop the fight, like he enjoyed the beat down....Rip to a great warrior

Tommy was getting off like crazy on Ray and he just ate all that shit. Then he came back and destroyed Tommy while a few clean hard shots got in while he was completely defenseless. The ref made sure no one would accuse him of a premature stoppage, Got DAYUM.

ray was tryna tire him out, so he took the first 3 rounds off and made tommy morrison work, after tommy got tired mercer had no mercy on him lol.

Tommy should have won that fight. He was on oil based steroids and was depending on to knock Mercer out early. He almost had Mercer!! But by round 5 he was wore out from not training hard enough and all the partying . Tommy could have been a better fighter if not for his life style of women and partying. Tommy was whipping the shit out of Mercer for 3-rounds. He was hitting Mercer so hard he was farting in the ring. When Tommy couldn't connect the knockout blow and was wore out.... Mercer caught em and messed Tommy up... badly!!!!! It was pitiful to see Tommy lose so rough and mean but it happened and that's history. Still Tommy could have been a much better fighter who could have won the fights he lost if not for drugs alcohol parties and lots of women. Bless his heart for all he did do before his life style ruined his career. With respect to Tommy Morrison 🏆

@@natureboybobby7927 The problem Morrison faced with trying to knockout Mercer was that the guy he was tying to knockout was Mercer. Mercer was insanely durable. He could just walk through punches that would hurt more normal fighters, and punches that would knock down other fighters would make him back up a step at the worst. The strategy Morrison used against Foreman would have been far better here. There, he only tried to outbox Foreman, didn’t try to go war, didn’t square up against him. An old Larry Holmes whooped Mercer by outboxing him, focusing on scoring points and defending himself, not bothering to try to hurt a guy who is almost impossible to hurt. This was actually Mercer’s next fight.

They call him “Merciless” Mercer for a reason!

I remember when these two started their careers...I loved watching both of them rising in the ranks and didn't expect either of these guys to dominate the other but I was wrong, Ray was the better man that night.

This fight was how Ray Mercer became Merciless Ray Mercer!

Tommy Morrison was in my opinion the best white heavyweight ever. And I'm not talking about wins, I'm talking about skills. Besides Lennox Lewis throwing the hook to the body and the upper cut to the head, Morrison threw that punch combo perfect. But the king of that punch combo was Mike Tyson. I believe his health and drug issues took a lot from him, I feel he would've made more noise in the heavy weight division🥊

And height does mean something in the heavyweight ranks, both of them were like 6'4 right? And they had a great trainer in Emanuel steward, I couldn't tell you who Morrison's trainer was. Like I said I'm just talking about skills, And he had a good left hook this side of Joe Frazier

Nah, fury or wilder would destroy either one of these two guys. Ray Mercer was a beast, don’t get me wrong. But Fury wouldn’t tire the way Morrison did. Fury would just dance circles around him for 12 rounds, peppering him with that 85 inch reach, then anytime Mercer got close enough to throw Fury would lean on him. He’d coast to an easy unanimous decision, then never fight Mercer again because why do that. As for Wilder, look at how much Morrison was able to get through Mercer’s guard. Wilder would do the same thing, but he hits a lot harder. Mercer wouldn’t be able to last against those punches.

I spent my last overseas assignment in Baumholder, Germany. The first person I met was a heavyweight fighter named Curtis. He was Ray Mercer’s sparring partner. He told me that if you were an athlete, you’d have the best advantage because you’d be training at altitude and there was nothing but hills to run on. Notice that Mercer’s legs never faltered. They didn’t call Baumholder the home of champions for nothing.

I met Ray mercer in Germany 82 , we were on the same boxing team representing 7corp district army command ,when he lost in the heavyweight finals bout USAEUR(united states army Europe)82 finals to a guy named Robinson who had 150 amateur bouts to Mercers I believe 7 fights. I would ketchup to Robinson in 83 and ask him about the mercer fight.he said Ray was strong as hell.

Mercer was like steel

They didn't call him merciless Mercer for nothing.

And they gave Morrison a title shot after that fight🤷🏼🙄🤔
