Ray Mercer is an absolute legend for this. So many boxers talk shit about other fighting disciplines but don't have the balls to step into the ring/cage, but Ray is an animal and he took his chances.

Mercer gave Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield some of their toughest fights He gave Musashi a strangely competitive fight And finished Sylvia in 8 seconds. He fought some of the best in boxing, kickboxing and UFC and gave all them a challenge.

This wasn’t competitive buddy. Musashi kicked the shi out of him. Sylvia agreed to have a stand up with him. Kimbo Slice submitted him in round one. He quit against Bonjasky after one high kick.

@@Kbax3614 not Competive? Musashi literally got rocked in the fight and the fight went to decision obviously it was competive and the thing with kimbo is kimbo can also box he has a very impressive career for losing very few times in mma and boxing and the high kick yeah idk he just gave up pretty weird cause he couldve won or atleast went to decision.

You do know that Mercer has been suffering from liver disease since 1997.He never had a great fighting brain or the application to technical adapt himself to a new fighting style ,but in his boxing prime he had a great chin and was a rock hard puncher .He just needs these fights to pay his bills and MMA wants his name to be in the winning records of their most marketable fighters.BTW the kick that Bojansky landed in their fight was right on target on Mercer's temple.

As a matter of fact, it does. Granted, most of the time I want to see an awesome match between two strikers (thus a boxing match is always great to watch), but I personally also want to see adaptation - an overlap/transition between the different areas of fighting. Don't tell me that a slam like Rampage's isn't awesome to see, or a flying submission hold by Genki Sudo. With MMA, more awesome stuff is possible

I don't think Anderson Silva keeps up with the politics of MMA the way fans of combat sports like us do. Perhaps he was a bit naive in that regard but in an interview he clearly expressed his surprise that Dana would not let the fight happen. I know that there are alot of variables to consider in Boxing and I would not expect Silva to be successful against the top contender but I wouldn't mind watching him give it a try.

Things slow down in the body by 46, things start to ache, recovery times are longer, weight doesnt fall off anymore, hell im 32 and my legs are gone, its like soccer players, they just cant keep the intensity at that same level, they are probably just as strong but stamina and recovery is harder, Ray can get to a level of fitness but not explosive quickness or durability, there is no doubt his chin is more of a weakened iron than in the past.

I doubt that Anderson Silva issued the challenge for publicity. He didn't realize that Dana would play politics and prevent the fight from happening. He has announced that he will retire early and pursue this fight with Jones. I see no reason to doubt him. As far as him competing against top Boxers conventional wisdom would suggest that he cannot but it would be interesting to see him try. That would be a true test to see if an MMA striker can develop the hands of a Boxer.

If you can catch him then maybe you can get something done, but nobody has been able to since then. He's too good at using long distance strikes, he's too good at mixing up strikes with takedowns. He has perfect split second timing in that right when you commit to a strike, he's ready to pounce and put you down. He takes zero chances anymore. Just wants to get a comfortable W.

It wasn't a high kick that initiated that throw, it was a low kick. How successful a high kick is, whether it be in a street fight or not, is dependent on the quality of the two fighters, the height of the two fighters, and many other factors. Depending on the specific circumstances, high kicks can easily be just as effective on the street as they are in a controlled envirnonment.

And I completely agree. Take a look at my other posts, I also want to see all aspects of fighting. MMA has a thrill like no other combat sport does.

There's no problem here. This isn't a boxing match and Mercer knew that going into the fight. He knew he only had 3 rounds to finish it just like Musashi did. If this WAS a boxing match of course Mercer would win. It would be odd to think otherwise.

@SeanOMatic exact, same in mixed martial arts, manny pacquiao isn't going to outstrike the guys standind that primarly use their hands too because its just not the same kind of boxing. Sameway olympic wrestlers get throw around by guys who didn't even wrestle in highschool, or guys without a belt in jiu jitsu submit guys with third degree black belts. But in their own respects, they will almost undoubtidly dominate.

@ilovemmamuaythaibox If you add up all the boxing, kickboxing, and MMA matches that you've seen on tv, or your computer, that's not even as many as I've seen live, in person, of just one of those sports individually.

I think Rays legs were about to go by the end, thats got to hurt, he took some pounding. He manage dto get a breather by throwing him down. They should of put him against Botha.
