The great Ray Jessel. Get his CDs. When he performed this song in public, after he finished, he would say, "And now I'd like to play something else for you..." and launch into "The Short-Term Memory Loss Blues" again. Priceless!

He died? 😔
Oh my gosh! I am so very sad to hear that he passed! He was a very talented man, musically, and comedically, along with that, he was very gracious! May he rest in peace!🍃❤️🍃
No one has mentioned it, but Ray was an excellent piano player.
I knew an old lady who her family and the doctors kept telling her she's loosing her short term memory. She'd say "I can remember what state I was born in, I can remember to take a bath and how to cook for myself. Now I can't remember who called me 10 minutes ago, but I can still remember things."

That's actually a really informative quote. She's listing three different types of memory here. Sounds like she's having difficulty accessing her episodic memory in addition to encoding short-term, but her semantic memory is fine. Most people do retain that one as they age, which is how they manage to kick all of our butts at crossword puzzles! But the loss of episodic memory is typically associated with Alzheimer's.

Sounds very similar to Randy Newman music. Given that Jessel toiled in obscurity, writing for many performers over the years, it wouldn't surprise me if Newman was inspired by his work.
Ray is one of those people who show humanity why we should appreciate our elders.
I love his compositions and so do all my friends at my senior center. I’ve performed this one there and also read the lyrics to his “Whatever Happened to Melody”. Our seniors loved them. The sheet music of his compositions are impossible to find. I am fortunate enough to have a son who was able to figure out the uke chords for this one.

Happy for those that lived and enjoyed his live performances. Equally happy we can still enjoy even after he has passed.
If only he made it played this piece to the AGT, I think he would reach it to finals. RIP Great Old Man!
I've been entertaining Nursing home residents with singing, and a lot of musical Instruments/styles of music, for almost 16 years. In MY mind/experience;I've seen/known seemingly old men at 30!And"young" dude's at 70!We ALL have a different life journey.I've lost a few Young friends&Some that were Older; They all expected to live much longer!I LOVE listening to and talking to older people than me,I wish more of our young generation would too!I did when I was young.
He makes it look like playing that kind of of music very easy. Those progressions are superb! He is a genius.
Fantastic love you rip
Can we just admire his amazing piano skills?
My favorite part about this song is that you can still sing it even if you don’t know the lyrics so long as you know the song
