Thanks Richard. It's the "Third Earthquake" example in "On What Matters", volume one, part 2, chapter 9. Technically, the argument is Lazari-Radek and Singer's. They alter Parfit's example to make a point about the separateness of persons (in "The Point of View of the Universe") whereas Parfit is talking about the albeit related Kantian concept of treating someone merely as a means
