I think Rawlings like 20ish years ago were still figuring out the pro preferred line. So they actually used really high end materials for the whole glove until they figured them out to know where they needed high end leather and where they didn't. These days they kind of skip out in a lot of areas unfortunately because they know what they are doing haha. But, I wonder if mine is any different. I can lend it to yuh if you want

I have a HoH hyper shell infield glove and a pro preferred catcher’s mitt, and I really like both. HoH are way easy to break in but the pro preferred is more confortable and feels better. I think they are both very good glove.

Depends on what level you are playing at. If youre still under 18 years old you really only need the 1 glove and it doesnt matter the size. In college though its probably best to get a bigger glove (maybe something cheaper like a GG Elite if its not a regular position)

@Rick Frank . The weight difference is hard to notice and for outfield i think comfort is very important, and durability is hardly something you notice either because both gloves will last you a lifetime if you take care of it. Id much rather a comfortable glove that lasts 20 years of my 20 year playing career than a glove that is harder to break in, doesnt feel as nice, and is still stiff after im done playing, especially when for the outfield a loose glove is much better for the hand

My goal with my 7yo is to teach him to love the game and to appreciate practicing and improving. It seems doubtful that gaining an "edge" via equipment will make him a better player in the long run. We have a Mizuno Prospect Select glove, thanks to Play It Again Sports ($20, like new). Bubbles are caused by you closing the glove too early in the break-in stage (i saw Chris say this to someone else's comment earlier). Using a weight or mallet on the palm can get rid of bubbles, and then just copy Chris' break-in from there. Usually forcing the glove closed is what causes bubbles because the leather is taking the easiest way to break tension as you apply pressure, which is usually by folding in all different directions like a zig-zag pattern

do not beat on a glove that is an older glove. i had a wilson pitchers glove. i do not remember when i bought it, a very long time ago. i beat on it with the end of a ball bat and it broke the leather ties between the pinky finger and the index finger. do not try doing that on an older glove. i had to send it to a guy to replace the leather ties i broke. good gloves are not cheap anymore. be careful what you try on an older glove.

If you want a heavy speeder-upper: Use your 200lbs ahem your 178 lbs and your heels. To get the initial creases going i manually fold right along the line I want, then stand on it in my stocking feet for a while. puts them in with semi permanence pretty quick. Same with crushing cardboard boxes, don't bother with the removing the tape and folding them up, just start using your weight and crush them. Let the Earth do the work. Durability is most important, you can make a super hard thick thick leather still pliable and easy to use, so go for the steer leather.
