Jack Elam isn’t a handsome guy but man, he worked steady! I see him in every other old western I watch. Young or old Jack had a real career!

BEST DARN CHARACTER ACTOR THAT EVER LIVED!!!

I am 84, can not remember how often I have watched, enjoyed and hope to see again. Often thought it one of the best.

I don't recall just how many times I've watched this movie through the years. Since the 50's but I can tell you it's a bunch . And I still enjoy it.

Hugh Marlowe makes the movie worth watching. The baby's part is excellent. I have seen this on KZread a number of times. I love it.

This is the kind of movie you could watch more than once...thank you. 👍👍

What a surprise! Excellent movie!

Ignore the negative comments -- an intriguing story with excellent cast. You'll enjoy it !

I saw this movie in 1951, as a young boy. I enjoyed it then, and I enjoyed it this time. I have always remembered it; every actor, the plot, the scenery (little boys pay attention to Westerns because so many sets were used over and over again). I thought Susan Hayward, Jack Elam, and Edward Buchanan did exempleary protrayals. George Tobias,and Dean Jagger were excellent actors. Their personas were so well done. This was one of the best performance by Tyrone Power that I ever saw. That's primarily because he usually got such bad scripts to act on. I have to say that Hugh Marlowe also did an excellent job here. He,like Tyrone Power, also had an under utilized talent, being offered a lot ot of bad scripts. The baby girl, "Callie" took direction well. I wondered how many times she had ro do the escape thru the hole scene. In rhose days, there was less hovering over child actors and her tears at the alleged bullets hitting the dirt around her evoked true tears. I have to thank the poster of this movie, and praise him/her for no **#**^# commercial interuptions. Thks. Excellent film. A good plot, well scripted dialogue, excellent production values and fabulous actors. Jeez, nearing my eighth decade now, I so do miss such professionalism.

I go along with everything you wrote Pearl EXCEPT your saying that you enjoyed Hayward's acting - I find it disgusting!

Hayward is anything but a sweetheart. She usually has a sourpuss to do along with her personality.

Am addicted to vintage movies. It makes me feel the joy and wholesomeness they enjoyed.

Only in the movies...in the final shootout Tyrone Power shoots 11 times with a six shooter and no ammo belt in sight. Scchhhheeeeecch.

If you will remember he gave the woman the gun and the belt, she put both behind the water tank if you look closely and you see him pick it up you see him take it out of the holster.

Hayward and Hugh Marlowe later played husband and wife in Henry Hathaway's 'The Garden of Evil', 1954, co-starring with Gary Cooper and Richard Widmark. The first martial bars of Sol Kaplan's theme played in William Wellman's 'Yellow Sky', 1946, starring Gregory Peck, Anne Baxter and Widmark.

Now, I know it's for plot development, but come on....they get taken by surprise when Marlow comes in? I think real stage relay tenders would be VERY aware of everything and would not have taken The tossed badge a legitimate. I've seen my share of westerns since the 60s. But again, it's a movie. Oh well. The place they lived in would be plenty fine for me. Plumbing would help though.

1951 Movie - Tyrone Power and Susan Hayward - starring Great film !

The opening title music reminds me of a march version of the traditional "Massas in the Cold, Cold Ground." I think this title music was also used for trailer music for other movies.

Such great actors? Dean Jagger, how good playing a Dumbo;' Jack Elam, always the best character actor of all and he always looked old. Susan Hayward, what could I say? Tyrone Power, well?

William Scott Elam, known as Jack Elam's most distinguishing physical quality was the iris of his left eye, which was skewed to the outside, making him look unnaturally wall-eyed (the opposite of cross-eyed). He also lost the sight in his left eye during a boyhood accident when he was stabbed with a pencil at a Boy Scout meeting.

Susan Hayward was also one of the best actresses of her era. Starred in movies with Clark Gable, Gregory Peck, and other top Hollywood names. She had a role in "Valley of the Dolls," one of her last roles, and was the star in "I Want To Live," perhaps her greatest acting performance.

Amazing how she rolls in the dirt in that white blouse and it remains spotless. The same for his black shirt. I have to say, these are some of the dumbest characters I have ever seen in a movie. How they survived in the West, I will never know.

Because Power had a gun that shot 11 times without reloading (final shoot- out).

This film shows us that enemy is usually inside not being outside because one of gang killed his boss and his comrade. I miss Susan Hayward whose movie I Want To Live I would like to watch and ask this channel to upload it

Good movie but as all of them to0oOo0oOo0o short happy end, only 10- 15 secconds of the entire movie which is filled with bad atmosphere. As if the creators of these movies are afraid of developing some 3-4 minutes of happy ending.

those were the days, men were men & women were treated like women

I like Tyrone Power so much I am even willing to watch this movie even though the bi-och Hayward is in it. She plays a bi-otch so easy she doesn't even need to act. Well, after 20 minutes into this movie I decided that the bi-otch was just too much of a bi-otch for me and had to call it quits - sorry Tyrone.

Almost every character in this movie acted like a complete idiot. Certainly not one of the best westerns I've ever seen due to that reason alone.
