Raw Video: Fernando Alonso crashes during 2019 Indy 500 practice
Спорт
The two-time Formula 1 world champion hit the wall during Day 2 of practice for the 2019 Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He was quickly checked, cleared and released from the infield medical center.

A former Indy 500 winner (in my memory it was Mario Andretti) once said: „there are two types of oval racers - the ones who already have hit the wall, and the ones who are going to hit the wall.“ Congrats, Fernando, you‘ve just stepped up one league.
That could have been worse . Hope they fix it and come back strong. And indycar please fix your stream for international viewers . We are missing it.

@@aidanjohnson7571 After 2015, IndyCar added rear flaps underneath the rear wing, basically on top of the diffuser, similar to roof flaps in NASCAR. They have done a great job of keeping cars on the ground. Dixon's accident was a freak accident with wheel-to-wheel contact, and arguably would've been worse without rear pods and the flaps.
I barley started following IndyCar last year. So glad I did, this series is amazing. Amazing cars, tracks, and drivers. Alonso crashing shows how tough this really is, not easy. I guess from what I hear even the best Indy drivers have all crashed here though so he can keep his head up!

@@thisuraD Yeah. It was well organized beforehand. Piquet spun in the exact same position on the warm-up lap or so to make it look like he struggles in that area. This to maybe make the oncoming crash look more of an racing accident, even though the spot was in no way a difficult one that'd cause a spin. Still, it was pretty clear from the beginning and massive sanctions were handed. One of them was the ban that Flavio Briatore got. Tbh as a very long time F1-fan I'd be more than thrilled to see more of that "shady" stuff or drama in the sport. The races tend to be pretty boring with a few very positive exceptions per year and now that they sound like Briggs & Stratton lawnmover engines, the V12/V10/V8 screams won't balance the lack of action and serve additional value for the viewer.

Man some of y'all and the venom towards Fernando. Why? I'm happy he's giving it a shot. He's learning a lot about the lack of downforce on the new cars, the hard way. Also thank goodness the thing stalled out before rotating over. Glad the big hole they designed in the underwing/floor helped keep the car upright.

Bronson Graff well I wish he would give indycar series a bit more effort than just trying to win Indy 500. Especially now that he retired from F1. Mansell did a great job, and would like more drivers jump between the two series, one as pinnacle of engineering and the other pinnacle of the spec series so more for drivers.

This isn't even close to Moore's crash, though. Speeds were much higher, and Moore tried to apply power to go around after a spin, which proved to be a fatal error. Also the crash was at Fontana which is a trioval with slightly higher bank.
@armorgeddon
5 жыл бұрын
Moore most likely did not apply power to create a 360 and his spin out of the corner transitioned directly into that awful crash. Otherwise please provide a source for that opinion. Fontana also is not a tri-oval, it's a flat banked oval and officially still the fastest racetrack in the world.

He needs to get into an Andretti car again. McLaren is a losing team now. They don't have the people in place anymore. It's going to be largely the same story as F1 for anything they do in Indycar. When they aren't breaking down, they're slow.

@TJ32 Honda wont allow it.....atleast as long as they are powering the Andretti cars, Honda doesnt want to see Alonso in Andretti cars....in my understanding Honda wasnt particularly pleased with the way Alonso bashed their engines, even if he had good reason to. Perhaps if Andretti team switches to another engine supplier, there might be a chance in the future, but in my understanding Alonso is committed to the project with Mclaren.
He is coming back stronger now. Has to happen at least once to get the taste.
Glad to hear he is okay, that is the most important thing when these high speed accidents happen.
Kudos to IMS for the strength of the inside barrier, are they SAFER too?
Vaya choque! Ahí se ve a la velocidad que van!! Espero que estés bien Nano!
I hope Fernando will race whole next season. Indycar starting to be as good as F1 +more overtaking, amazing circuits -bad yellow flag rules for non oval racing and strait up stupid rules for white line crosing (4 wheels out of track means you take shortcut = slow down, no benefit or you get penalty)

Change of direction was actually pretty sizeable
Yikes that car almost flipped into the air. Glad it stayed down for the entire spin and hopefully they can get that car back together!
Ouch. That inner wall impact surely hurt.
No livestream?
There is a lot more finesse to driving Indy ovals than one would think. Apexing entry and exit is everything, get it wrong and your spat out into the wall at 240 mph. Proof that obtaining that triple series hat trick is more than difficult

That was quite a heavy crash.
That is a well designed car, back in the day that type of slide down the bank would've resulted in an airborn car!

From what I understand, McLaren wanted to try it on their terms this time as a test run for a full-time team in the series.
