Raw Craft with Anthony Bourdain - Episode Thirteen: Dominique Ansel
In this episode of Raw Craft, Anthony Bourdain and The Balvenie spend the day with James Beard Award-winning Pastry Chef, Dominique Ansel at his bakery in New York City. Watch as he creates a custom Hot Chocolate infused with The Balvenie Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Dominique takes Anthony Bourdain through his process of crafting some of his favorite famed deserts. His creation of the Cronut®, is his signature croissant-doughnut hybrid pastry, drawing lines around the block each morning. Prepare to have your mouth water. Episode directed by filmmaker Rob Meyer. Music by Michael Montes.
The Balvenie Distillery alliance with craft is a result of the brand’s choice to embrace the old way. Balvenie is dedicated to the process of using the five rare crafts of Scotch whisky making to create The Balvenie’s distinctive taste and exceptional quality. It is the only distillery that still grows its own barley, malts in its own traditional malting floor, employs coopers to tend every cask, a coppersmith to maintain the stills and a malt master to ensure the resulting spirit is consistently excellent.

He's up there having lunch with the big man. Both of them are probably eating bread and discussing the idea of it in a philosophical and informative way.
Now more than ever, the world needs Anthony Bourdain.

I still feel a empty spot in my heart. He spoke so well for a group of people, us cooks! Anthony we love you brother!!!❤️
Nobody came up with darkly funny one-liners like Anthony Bourdain did. He was a brilliant man. 🌱
Poor Anthony Bourdain, I wish I could have hugged him, he looks so tired at 8:03. I wish he knew how many strangers, loved his presence, if only he felt our love 😘

I was watching AB videos and during the last year plus of his life, he was filming Parts Unknown and The Layover so he was filming constantly and had very little time off. I’m sure he was exhausted.

I like they actually incorporated the whiskey here into something they are making.
Look at that respect and admiration they have towards eachother.
RIP Peace my brother, Will forever enjoy your shows and your narrating, you are missed.
There’s something mesmerising about Dominique Ansel.

Absolutely, totally agree with John y John. Bourdain's access to talent is extraordinary, as is his star power, opening doors, hearts and minds. Not afraid to get his hands dirty or sugary, make mistakes, ask for help and guidance. Thank you Balvenie! Good cooks rock with Balvenie.

this is the best video ever on KZread, because it's tribute to Anthony Bourdain!! We should miss him.
I didn't realize how emotional and sentimental Tony was until seeing this, even if it's only shown for a few seconds. I'm extremely disappointed he's gone.
Nothing better than watching butterscotch being made. With one of the best Scotch Whisky's produced. I am down with the quote,"don't let the creation kill the creativity."

This was sick. Dominique is such a great chef
i'm really not a fond of French cuisine, but this kinda stuff just blows me away, it is purely magic..it shows me once again what humankind is capable of..i so respect this man's craftsmanship, that i'm totally mesmerised by it..chapeau !
These two are so passionate about what they do it's incredible
I loved this! Anthony can go home and make a mixed tape. Love it. Rest In Peace. Yo

Love the series... 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Just look at his face and his voice when he talked about his heart break at 15, he still felt it.
Chef Ansel indeed! I was drooling watching them bake DKA and the Balvenie infused caramel hot chocolate - now I am heart broken because it is the middle of the night and I live 2000 miles away from being able to buy and enjoy either of these wonderful things!
3 things : 1) Of course they LOVE Kouign amann, who doesn't ? 2) I like the sponsorship, and I think they should try to to make it as seamless as possible in every episode like this one, where they use it in a fancier handmade drink 3) I really like the series, and even if they're not always unknown artist, they've still very much got what it takes to be genuine and it's really nice
Anthony Bourdain's narration ❤️
Omg I miss him. He was so cute, at the end “I’m going to go home and make a mixed tape”

Everything about this is remarkable
I miss you Anthony! Love the words you use to describe food, chefs, people, cultures, experiences and your view on the world which resonates with me. Food as entry point into other cultures, peoples way of thinking and life philosophies. While writing this I just realised what ‘Chef’s Table’ is missing: Anthony Bourdain! These new shows are brilliantly filmed but are lacking the soul of you! I miss you - hope you’re doing fine wherever you are.
Can't believe he's gone.
Bourdain was great because he inspired great ness. People are crazy!!

Extraordinary!
I love this series. The best branded content out there
RIP and godamn if this wasn't a fantastic show.
I love how he always maintained eye contact and genuinely was interested. Right after I found out about him as a chef he died. I feel giped.
Anthony at 11:18, regarding heartbreak; this was so prophetic ; hard not to be choked up; days before his death, Asia, 42 , his gf, was seen strolling hand in hand and cuddling journalist Clemente, 28, after Anthony, 62 had said in interviews how much she meant to him. This betrayal by Asia with a man 32 years younger than Anthony, must have been a gut punch. Shame on Asia, Anthony deserved so much better than her.

Not to mention the man strived to NEVER walk anything back - it was all out there for the World to see... However, him learning the cold, brutal truth about A.A. & the hush money he furnished to the alleger of the foul deed w/ A.A. - meant he would be forever tainted/tarnished in the World over supporting who turned out to be a fraud.
I remember in high school I needed to choose and read a book for a report. And the library just happened to get this in and for some reason I picked it. His story and the stuff he did made me want to become a chef. With out his book I would have never been able to unleash the love and passion I have for food. No other celebrity who has passed has ever crushed me, and to this day I still look back and wonder what life would be like with out that book.
4:05 Yes, please come back...we miss you.
Miss you Bourdain!🌈🙏🌈

"Food is a powerful trigger for some of our most intimate memories."
I wish he could see how much people miss him. Saddest part of it all is he was very beloved by the public. He did not lack love.
I want to visit NYC just to try these.
I always felt that Anthony was nervous cooking in front of others. I will always miss him. And Dominique, what a sweet, talented man.
Wow that was epic!!! \m/
Legends
you can see in his face at 11:39 as he's thinking back to his own first heartbreak how much THAT heartbreak from 40+ years prior affected him still. Look at the real emotion in his face, and what did he do - he reached for a drink to soothe his spirit as he jokingly talked about being depressed. (yes i know it's sponsored by The Balvenie, but i also know he chose to drink at THAT moment) I can only imagine how difficult it would have been for his heart to have been broken by that paparazzo photo of his girl with some other guy. I was going through an awful breakup situation around this same time and i don't know HIS own pain but i do know the pain is very, very real when you are full of sensitivity and emotions and you learn the one you have given your heart to has changed and there is no going back to the love you had.
I love you Anthony
Tuff to watch..knowing we'll never have anybody like this again in are life time..
i don't want to be demeaning to his genius, but dominique has beautiful eyes.
