I was present with my son and wife in the entire programme. Raviji introduced the illustrious son of Ustad Alla Rakha Khan as Ustad Zakir Hussain; probably for the first time 'Ustad' was spelt before the name of Zakir sahab. Should it be Sindhu-Bhairavi? I can still feel the moments when the entire Kanu-Sidhu stadium reverberated with thousands of conch-shells ringing in the air-a wonderful perception that is simply inexpressible. The recording uploaded here is but the truncated one and the kind recorder took it from the left corner of the stadium. I will try to upload the better one if the almighty God permits me. The audience was simply taken to the aesthetic world by all these maestros. Ustad Ali Akbar Khan took us to a fathomless domain while helping us to perceive the deepest feeling of the Almighty by his rendition. I am too humble to express what was actually done. It can never be found in the recordings. Best wishes are due for the uploader. Hats off to all of you.

Wow! Thank you! My first Ravi album was the Sounds of India (which this raga is on) and I stole the album from my friends' parent's collection because I liked the album cover. Out of all the albums, cassettes, cd's, and videos I have now, this album (Sounds of India) is my favorite still! I have been lucky to see Ravi 2 times in Escondido, CA. Once with his young daughter Anoushka, in the late 90s and one of his final appearances at his "Tenth-decade" series. I took my dad, we were 2nd. row! You can see the back of our heads in the concert video. His wife (and little dog) sat in front of us to the left. One of the cameramen was right in front of us. His wife brought his dog onstage at the end of the performance.

At around 14 minutes into the recording hear Ravi Shankarji just pre-empting Ali Akbar khan Saab- just goes on to show how these two were intertwined in their music! Just awesome!

The chemistry between these masters is absolutely amazing! The speed at which they play, the control they have, and the emotion (rasa) they bring takes me to a whole new world.

The soul just drinks it in...and smiles!

Gods must have descended from the heavens on earth to listen to the music of these maestros that night.

I'm afraid, he is not Ustad Zakir Hussain on tabla. It is his father Ustad Allah Rakhan saheb. Zakir bhai was anointed for the first time as Ustad. '

Very melodious raaga

We are blessed . Music, so bold, dashing, like the waves crashing on a shore, all sins are absolved, all pledges are redeemed. We are free. Can we sustain this feeling for ever ? I don't think so.

I was present this program with my beloved grandfather ,my first classical program in my childhood, hapended at Netaji bhavan , the program initiated with Ajay Chakraborty , the last performance was by pt Bijoy Raghav Rao , from memory down the lane that was the prolific, heavenly environment created by all the Maestros.

thks anyway!i had the opportunity to hear the 3 of them (zakir was not born i guess) in january 1970 for a one wekk festival, alng wth many others good musicians.. these nights will be for always in my heart and soul! untill 3 o'clock in the morning, and then go back trhough the back streets, with our heads full of sounds! to the house boats on the ganges river. in varanasi!. even if cochroats were running in our heary heads..bigger than my thumb ! i assure you.. but music was the interest , and benares, varanasi , spécially at night,has a spécial,power on me!..personne ne connait avant d'y avoie été

+jean-luc V Cool...I have been to many concerts in Varanasi most of them free. Saw Ali Akhbar Khan as well in 1998 I guess. A great place to dive into classical indian music and culture. In the morning coming back alongside the river ;-) maybe passing and smelling the burning ghat.....

Zakir was born in march 9 1951.. And he was accompanying them in this concert.

What an awesome performance! From all three of them (or was it four? It sounds like only one tabla, beautifully played). I sometimes think the challenge of playing with Khansahib brought out the best in Ravi Shankar. They did a wonderful performance of the same raga a decade earlier in the states on their tour in memory of Allaudin Khan - but at first hearing, this one is even better!

@@abulmonsurkhan1 i knew khan saheb n as a mumbaikar n an ex tabla player i have immense respect for them. In '70s khan saheb and zakir bhai accompanied this 2legends in a series of concerts for helping bangladesh which was newly born country. I attended 2 concerts. All of them are the ambasador of indian classical music in the world.

Hear the tabla clearly...the stroke, intonations, weight on the bass drum, the speed of tirekites and everything else...This is unmistakably Ustad Zakir Hussain. There is no doubt about that. 100% Zakir.
