Ah guys! I can see myself have many more happy memories from this lady! Thanks Kieran!

In pecking order I feel she has joined the ranks of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pt. Ravi Shankar but very sadly was not given the recognition in a male dominated society. She is a true jewel in the crown and her name will be etched in the hearts of people who have listened to her sarod.

Very sweet raga plaied skillfully which feels heart

Such rendition is scarcely to be had.A real performance of Maihar Gharana. Her golden stoke on Sarod mesmerised me every time I hear her.

Sharan Rani has beauty, grace and charm as she presents her spell binding Raga Bhairavi. God bless.

Sharan Rani is true to her name -The Queen in beauty and performance. Anne Hier gave few information about the artist, but we want to listen and know more about the beloved lady of this nation.

How very sad a lady of such talent, intelligence,, knowledge and mastery of music and dance was not honoured by the government of India. It breaks my heart..

I once sat in her livingroom in New Delhi & played my Sarode for her. I must have had a lot of gall, she is one of the great maestros of Sarode. By the way, she said quite correctly that my playing was haphazard. I have spent many years trying to fix that. I love her playing.

She was born Sharan Rani Mathur in the walled city of Old Delhi to a conservative Hindu family of well-known businessmen and educationists.[3] As a young girl, Sharan Rani learned to play the sarod from the master musicians Allauddin Khan and his son Ali Akbar Khan. Sharan Rani began her musical career in spite of immense familial opposition. During this period in Indian history, a career as a musician was seen as something for gharanas (families where music was a hereditary profession) or was the profession of nautch girls or baijis, not something appropriate for the daughter of a respectable, non-musician family. She also learned the Kathak form of classical Indian dance from Achhan Maharaj and Manipuri dance from Nabha Kumar Sinha.[4] In 1953, she did her M.A from Delhi University, and studied at Indraprastha College for Women. from Wikipedia

Okay... she is INCREDIBLE but I think I was a bit hasty... just listened to the whole raga quite intently, and I must say, still NOTHING touches Khansab on sarod ... but she is wonderful :).

Which phono cartridge did you use for this record? Also how did you convert it to to digital?

Anyone got a working link to the digitals? The original source blog - Oriental Traditional Music from LPs and Cassettes - no longer works.
