The live performance was absolutely fantastic - on par with the performance of Lucas Debargue at the 2015 Tchaïkovsky Competition. What a variety of characters, you did justice to my favorite piano work from my favourite composer ! And thank you for the tutorial even if I will never be able to play this piece

Hi Josh. It is so amazing to see a tutorial for such a high level piece. Your performance is becoming much more refined than the old one. May I ask what level of playing skill is required to even just think about learning this piece?

Thanks so much for your kindness. It’s a really tough piece - mostly with repetition and jumps, and on the musical side making things demonic, colorful, and exploring a variety of characters. I believe Ravel was writing this to be as tough as Islamey by Balakirev. They are completely different pieces with different sets of challenges. For me, Chopin Etude Op.10 No.2, which is quite easy at slower speeds, is perhaps the most difficult piece I’ve ever played when aiming for high speeds. There are 12 year olds that can play that much faster than many well-known professional pianists. Each pianist is different, and each piece presents different challenges. So I don’t have a specific “level” to recommend, but rather suggest looking through the piece at the unique challenges it presents

hey mr wright, i want to ask that how to adapt to other pianos better? because when i play on pianos other than mine, the different actions and mechanics always throw me off and make my performance terrible. some people suggested that i play on as many different piano as possible but i dont have many opportunity to. so is there any other ways to improve my adaptability? thanks

The audio is normalized on every one of my videos - meaning the max peak without distorting. Most KZread videos use compression, which makes classical piano sound terrible. Try using a pair of headphones or a different set of speakers.
