Flash Mob performed by Banda Simfònica d'Algemesí on February 23rd 2013 at Algemesí city (Spain), playing Ravel's Bolero.
Maurice Ravel is one of the most renowned composers of all time by his dedication to music. The bolero further enhanced his figure. This piece of music was created when Ravel was commissioned in 1927 by the Russian dancer and choreographer Ida Rubinstein to create "a ballet of a Spanish character."
The piece was characterized by having an ostinato in C major, a type of obsessive melody that had a rhythm and tempo that never changed. This melody is constantly repeated without modification, and the only thing that varies are the orchestration elements that produce a crescendo. For Ravel, it was a simple piece, but behind it was an original work that had not been seen until then.
The bolero was premiered on November 22, 1928 and was a great success throughout the world.

Да, американскому лётчику тоже очень нравилась эта мелодия. Именно под неё он и сбросил атомную бомбу на Херасиму. Когда слышу эту мелодию, всегда вспоминаю об этом. И ничего не могу поделать со своей памятью. А музыка гениальная.

Don't think I've heard bolero so many times since Torvill and Dean won gold medal for GB as I've heard on these flash mob vids. I ain't complaining though, it's a classic and performed well every time ❤

And not only him! Most instruments not engaged in a solo excursion are just going "Tah, di-gi-di-dah, di-gi-di-dah, di-gi-di, di-gi-di, di-ge-di-dah" for about 15 min. Rehearsals are a nightmare. When your director (junior high school orchestra) has brought the work to its crashing close, he'll usually say, "Okay, gang, that was pretty good. Now, let's take it again from the top, and this time I want more piccolo!"

Thirty years ago Torvil and Dean mesmerized the world ice dancing to Bolero at the Olympics. The performance was ethereal. It definitely lifted you above the cosmic plane.

If Ravel had known about flash mobs, this is what he would be directed to be offered in such a venue. Bolero is one of the best pieces of music for a flash mob when you consider the way the instrumentation builds throughout the piece. This is a wonderful performance, especially considering the environment in which it's presented.

+Societat Musical d'Algemesí. I agree totally with Lawrence Tagrin, but he said it better than I can! Bolero is so well suited for this venue. As someone who enjoys music, but has never played an orchestral or band instrument, I have always liked this piece, but have never seen Bolero performed. So it was especially interesting to me to see what instruments are adding in and taking the lead as the music builds. ---Mrs. Larry W.

This needs to be a thing.. opening peoples minds to the goosebumps that a full orchestra gives you is so precious!!
One of the best flash mobs. I don't know how they stayed in tune so well in such chilly weather, but it was so well executed. This is so moving, and I'm grateful to these young musicians and their teachers, and to OP. Bravo!

No idea why people gave this a thumbs down. I see people, young to old, taking part in a flash mob, giving a nice performance, in far from optimal conditions, of a great piece of music. I see lots of passers-by, of even more ages, taking time to enjoy it. Such a flash mob may seem casual, but it takes a lot of preparation, dedication and courage to make it a success. Thanks to all who made it so.

Thumbs up/down are easy to click. You can even write programs to click them for you. As far as I can see, they mainly help to further polarise our society. But there also are real people behind at least part of those thumbs. Calling the ones we disagree with insulting names isn't going to change their view, nor their behaviour. It, again, only helps polarisation. I did not add my comment to polarise. I added it to express my appreciation for the people who organised and carried out this event.

@@Marianna7117 мне это произведение напоминает Ленинградскую симфонию Шостаковича. Очень созвучны эти два произведения. Только у Шостаковича все как-то более зловеще, явная схватка добра и зла. А у Равеля перед глазами караваны верблюдов почему-то стоят. И когда в полную силу играют - дошли караваны до места назначения!
То что объединяет этот разобщенный мир...творчество...а именно музыка. Слушаю подгочдываю как вступают разные инструменты и плачу...

Amo o Bolero de Ravel desde menina, quando ouvi tocar no rádio, gostei tanto e perguntei a minha mãe, que música era aquela. Ela me ensinou nome e autor e eu NUNCA mais esqueci. Hoje, aos 83 anos de idade, tenho uma enorme satisfação ou ouvi-la novamente.

La música es maravillosa, pero el compositor es francés y la compuso en Francia. Eso sí, Ravel se inspiró en música española para componer su Bolero.
