I am SO hyped for AoS 4!!! I have *alot* of takes based on rules, the rotating models, the new stuff. But TLDR: The rotation sucks, but it needed to happen. Even as a massive Stormcast fan, that range was starting to get bloated. But I will remain optimistic because many of the rules changes look excellent! Now for the long version. Get ready, because I'll be putting down just about everything I've got a take/opinion on. First off, as always, I'm glad to see you covering AoS content on the channel! I'm very hyped for that launch set challenge as well as the upcoming Herohammer! Second, the name of the new Skaven model is "Warlock Engineer" so both of you were technically correct with the name. Third, we don't have a name for the Launch Box yet, but you can quote me on this prediction, it WONT be Vermindoom. Because "The Vermindoom" is the lore event that has caused the Skaven realm of Blight City to erupt out of the ground across nearly all the Mortal Realms. I highly doubt GW will name the launch set after the coinciding lore event. That'd be like GW calling Leviathan "Fourth Tyranic War". I'd sooner bet on Ratmageddon than Vermindoom as the name of the launch box. Fourth, new mini hype! I like just about everything I've seen so far. Though I am worried about the level of detail on the new Clanrats. When those come 20 per minimum unit, I worry all that nice detail will make painting them a bit of a chore. Fifth, I mentioned this in the TLDR, but while I'm sad to see some kits leave, I firmly believe that about half of them will get a refresh, we've even seen some of those refreshes in the trailer. Like the new Liberators and new Prosecutors(one of the flying units). Also, anything released around 2nd Edition, specifically the Sacrosanct model will come back, but they'll get a similar Thunderstrike(a.k.a. Slimcast) refresh, probablyin 6th edition if I had to hazard a guess. So even if it sucks to lose models that aren't even a full 6 years old yet, I believe they'll come back looking better than ever. But in spite of all that, I think this needed to happen. I'm saying this as someone who owns over 15,000 points of Stormcast(as of current time), and even I think something had to give. The range was getting too big for its own good. There were too many units and it was starting to hurt their internal balance, as well as the new player experience. 3rd edition had way too many Warscrolls with bad rules and a bunch of trap choices for new players. So I'll accept losing the Sacrosanct Chamber and some Heroes if it means a better designed army going forward. But to answer your question, I don't mind them gutting the range this time, if it means most of the Oldcast style units get updated. But I do also hope they ease up on the gas when they get around to refreshing the other Oldcast units. RIP BoC though, I don't have the army myself, but I came dangerously close to buying in several times because their 3rd edition book was SO fun to play. But I should have seen the writing on the wall when they refused to give a big refresh to BEASTS of Chaos in *The Era of the BEAST*. Sixth, because this was mentioned I'll point this out. If you want to see more of the "Grimdark" side of Stormcast. Look up the "Knights Excelsior", they do not mess around. Or if you want a good sample of what they get up to, check out the tie-in book for Dominion. None of their members are main characters, but you get a *very* good idea of how grim they can be. Seventh, my thoughts on the indexing of factions, I think it has pros and cons, but I think the pros outweigh the cons. With the reworking of weapons to include keywords, or changes to Spell Lores and the entire Prayer Chanting system, I think these are needed. But I get that some factions will have to wait a while to get their rules updated. But unlike 40K, there will be 4 "Subfactions" to use at launch. Because Command Abilities/Stratagems aren't tied to subfaction, AoS is able to make more in their index at launch, leading to more variety. Which I see as a positive for those that do need to wait a bit for an update. I'm also putting a slight correction here, because Soulblight didn't get its 3rd edition book until about late Spring/early Summer 2023, it was one of the last factions to get updated in the edition. Lauka Vi/Vengorian Lord wasn't their 3rd edition model, that kit was part of the late 2nd edition refresh/update. Eighth, prepare yourself, because I will (slightly)crucify you for not getting Command Ability rules correct. Unless you have a rule that states otherwise, you can only use each Command Once per Phase. So All Out Defense can be used in the Shooting Phase, and the Combat Phase, but only once each. You can't spam them unless you have a rule that says you can. You mentioned you played (I presume)Triumph and Trechery from one of the Dawnbringers books as a Free-for-All in your first game, the reason you get so many Command Points is because you're supposed to use them with the specific rules you spend those points on, or you bargain them to other players. So yes, 50 is alot, but it's supposed to be when you are regularly using them for bartering with other players or using them to help a teammate. And I checked the rules before posting this, you may get alot of Command Points, but the once per phase restriction still applies to your Command Abilites.(I'm not talking about any of the other rules like ploys) Also, the only "defensive stack" restriction is on Armor Bonuses. In 3rd, if you got +1 to save from something like "Mystic Shield", a Spell that every Wizard knows. You could also give that same unit All Out Defense, which would give them another +1, and every armor bonus above that first +1 would reduce incoming Rend(AP to use a 40K term) by that amount of extra. So a unit of Stormcast with a 3+ save that get Mystic Shield and All Out Defense are essentially on a 2+ Save, ignoring Rend/AP 1. This caused alot of unfun interactions and I'm happy to see it leave, but you can still combo something like a -1 to hit with +1 to save from All Out Defense. I'm glad that there's a uniform 3" combat range now. It makes fighting way less cumbersome and I love it. Objective size was "within 6", so that was quite a bit bigger. Ninth, what contents from Dominion were you looking for? Because if you're buying splits of Stormcast from Stormbringer, that has most of Dominion's contents, and anything that was previously "exclusive", Yndrasta, the monopose Annihilators with Shields and the Knight Vexillor with Banner of Apotheosis are all in the new Stormcast Spearhead box. So between those two sources, that's the entirety of Dominion's Stormcast contents. If you're interested in the Orruks from Dominion in addition to the Stormcast, sure it might be worth tracking down a copy, but if Stormcast is all you're after, you're already getting there. Tenth, there were a some infamously overpowered releases, specifically at the end of 2nd edition, but I didn't actually play until 3rd, but I was aware of how strong OBR, Lumineth, Seraphon, Kharadron Overlords and Disciples of Tzeentch were. For 3rd Edition, you can point at nearly every Battletome released in 2023 and find something unfun or overpowered in it that eventually got nerfed in a quarterly update. My issue with the "base rules" were Battle Tactics, they had the same issue as secondaries in 9th, because you could have a bad army carried by a set of easy secondaries, and they eventually became more important than scoring primary. So I hope that they get changed substantially to be less deterministic, or at least more interactive. That is my biggest concern, so fingers crossed we get some good news on Friday when they talk about Battle Tactics. Eleventh, definitely start a Lumineth army. They have my favorite Lore of any army and if you're that concerned with painting them up, the new Warcry set Pyre and Flood *did* come out this past weekend. Build and paint the Lumineth Warband inside. You could even make a video of it, another challenge of some kind. Maybe a 2 or 3 day challenge(?) where you each paint one of the Warbands. I know I'd watch that video. At the very least, I'd reccomend checking out the channel Mysidia, he's new to AoS as well and has been working on building and painting Lumineth. Despite being new to the hobby, he was able to paint them in a way that still looks decent, without having to break his mind, body and soul to do it. If you read all of this, thanks! I hope I helped with this giant dissertation, but more importantly, I hope you enjoy 4th edition!!!

Yoooo this was was a lot of insight! Some great points here. Yeah it’s mainly Yndastra and her sprue that am after. Just didn’t want to pay for thunder strike command or the spearhead prices 🫠 yeah we only played it as once per phase, spam was meant as in every phrase. Also glad to see Ratmageddon is catching on 👀

@@the_kieran_show Let me start by saying, thanks for reading all my takes! Sorry though if I pointed out something you already knew, the way I interpreted your understanding of the rules was quite different. I thought when you mentioned "spamming" it you used it more than once in a given phase. But trust me when I say Command Abilities are alot less spammy in Matched Play, where you get only 3 going first and 4 going second over the course of a full battle round. As for the remaining Dominion exclusives, I think the Spearhead is a decent value box if you want Yndrasta, especially if you can get it at a discount. But that's just my take, since I love the Stormstrike Chriot and think Vanquishers are cool.

AOS 4 l9oks fun. I reallllllly need to build and paint the verminous host battlebox I bought in 2022. At least get those 60 clan rats and 20 plague monks built just as they get retired

Started collecting AOS in preparation for 4th and I was getting bored with 40K. Really looking forward to it! Started collecting Stormcast and I’m a big fan of the Thunderstrike armour over the old armour. Initially I was only going to collect one army but after listening to two hobby enablers called Kieran 👀 I’m now building a Cities of Sigmar force! Looking forward to the new AOS content.

The whole wizard chamber is less than six years old, and great miniatures… although there’s massive SCE datasheet bloat that’s GWs fault, not ours. It’s just not acceptable both from a cash but TIME pov. Also I’d argue we don’t even need aos4, third edition is in a great place. That said, look forward to seeing you do some more mad challenges, as long as little K can stop with the negativity 😅

As someone who had 4000+ points of Stormcast and now has 2000 points of Stormcast it was a pretty brutal when the news hit. But after thinking on it there's nothing from stopping me running my Sequitors as Liberators after a bit of kitbashing and hopefully nothing stopping me running evocators as Reclusians or some other paladin unit. And evocators on Dracolines could be Pallidors or something. So there's some options for proxying/kitbashing to create a more unique looking army but it still was disheartening that the models that were launched 6 years ago have gone the way of the dodo. From that standpoint I'd prefer less new models and less culled models overall.

When I first got into warhammer back in 2021 I was all in on Age of Sigmar, but was left a little dissapointed (mainly because of my lack of wargaming experience) so made the switch to 40k with 10ths launch. Really looking forward to 4th and have gone all in on an ogor army, hopefully we're next up for a line refresh! Looking forward to all the aos shenanigans from you guys!

Im looking forward to 4th ed. Havent played a lick of AoS but have over 10k points of Sylvaneth from different box sets Iv collected since the middle of 3rd ed, dont judge me lol. I figured if Im going to start a new game, I should do it as cheapily as possible to get every unit. Iv saved over $1k, maybe spending $900. I plan on doing the same throughout 4th ed with Slaves to Darkness. I want to start that box set collection whenever the Dawnbringer box releases. I still see different box sets for them online and in my FLGS's, so hopefully I can snag some up. Probably will also pick up the Vanguard box around the time their Spearhead gets announced. Thats if its units I dont already have or have multiples of by that time, gotta do this smartly. Eventually Ill get to Serpahon but thatll probably be a 5th ed aside from Warcry which do plan on learning to play as well.

Its the one they can do the right way versus the decades of missed opportunities and mistakes made with 40k.

Its certainly a faster game than 40k. They both do certain things really well, will reserve a little judgement till AoS 4 is fully out! But would say AoS is "easier" to play but does that mean it lacks some depth? That's an "each to their own" question. I think you'll see a lot of chatter about AoS being a better game because its on the up, but some of that will be because people from 10th are looking for something new so will find AoS refreshing. Just remember there is a reason both games exist and have a different rule set and there is room for both in your life! So just have fun and play the one you have most fun with at the moment :)

I like AoS because you don’t have to wait for your turn as long. In 40K, combat is mostly I attack with everyone, you attack with everyone.
