Rationalize The Denominator

This algebra video tutorial explains how to rationalize the denominator with radicals and variables by multiplying the numerator and denominator by the something that will eliminate the radical expression in the denominator. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems on simplifying radical expressions.

since the square root is cubed, you need to get 2 more of each number to get rid of the radicand. In order to do this, you have to multiply by 4, which is 2^2 since there is already one 2, and y^2 which is just 2 more of y^1 because you want to take it outside of the radicand. He just expressed 2^2 differently.

  • @YouAreParadoxical

Agreed, totally! I think it is still possible to make a square number out of √48. It's four, so √48 = 2√12, and then you multiply 2 by the existing number 3, which gets you 6√12. If you turn it to decimal form to verify, square root 48 times 3 is 20.7846096908, and you get the same result for 6√12. Good luck, by the way, is this high school math? I'm in 5th grade and just want to verify.

  • @TechySkills

    Nope you are wrong, Yes It can be simplified, but like this: = √48/4 = √16x3/4 = (√16 x √3) / 4 [Root of 16 is 4] = 4 x √3 / 4 [4 and 4 cancel out] = √3 is the correct answer!!!!@@YouAreParadoxical
