2011-2013 is pound for pound, in my opinion, the weirdest era the PS brand has ever had. At least a dozen projects that were dropped immediately after release like PSAS, Starhawk, etc., marquee series were undermarketed and dropped to promote Uncharted 3, the Vita happened...fever dream is spot-on!

the ironic part is that Sony never owned Crash & Spyro, they were merely exclusives that Sony pushed uber hard instead of pushing their 1st party IPs...then PS2 gave us the holy Playstation platformer trinity, and they hardly bother caring anymore. Thankfully we do have a new Ratchet & Clank on the way for PS5 that actually continues the story from Into the Nexus, but Jak & Sly are still in that sad limbo of underutilized Sony franchises with MediEvil ( since MediEvil 2 we've had 2 remakes of the first game...and a crappy Move spin-off ), Wild Arms, Resistance and Ape Escape :/ Sony is beyond weird when it comes to their own IPs....

@@newageBoundhippie resistance finished it's story, unlike Sly where we could still have some story with it. Though i've looked at the ending of 4 and came up with a potential theory to why we haven't had a 5th game: Sly cooper becomes the ancestor of his family in an endless time loop. Sent to the past by accident and ends up starting his family line in ancient Egypt. He does look similar to Slytunkhamen Cooper if you look closely. Again this is just my theory.

There are actually 2 more references in Borderlands 3, there's a challenge for killing Ratch enemies called 'Ratch Clanker', and in the code of the game but currently unobtainable (hopefully not forever, with patches and hot fixes in the future fixing its loot source) there's an overpowered heavy weapon called the R.Y.N.A.H in the game, with its description being a direct quote from Nefarious in the movie.

@@TheGoldenBolt good news! the rynah is now obtainable, however it appears to be some weird mix of the ryno and the bfg from doom. it shoots two large, slow projectiles that attach damaging beams to enemies they pass by much like the bfg, and then when the projectiles explode they launch a barrage of mini homing rockets at every enemy that was damaged by the beam attack, kinda like the ryno. very odd gun

@@acuteavocado1962 Odd but a good refrence of 2 of the most powerful weapons from two franchises. My question is how do you get the gun? Nevermind found a guide. I'm gonna be using it and the new vault card relic to get it the quickest.

Sly Cooper and Ratchet shall forever be my two favorite Playstation mascots. An excellent video, and I loved the team up with AntDude!

it's in my top 5 overall, and is my absolute favorite 1st part Playstation franchise. Rift Apart is literally the reason I'm making the PS5 a priority at launch ( disc version so I can start getting PS4 games to play on it and also continue to rent from Gamefly ). Only entries in the series thus far I haven't liked playing were Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank... Now I'm just wishing Sony would play ball with Nintendo and get the duo into Smash Bros....

I had literally no idea there was a possible ratchet and clank reference in borderlands 3 , would've kept the weapon if I did .

Now their is a legendary weapon called RYNAH which is a legendary rocket launcher and functions similary to the BFG weapon from doom 2016. Though the projectiles when detonated release rockets like the RYNO. You can get it in the proving ground's, instinct gauntlet.

Y'all forgot their appearance (albeit basically just as JPGs) in the short-lived online game, Dead Star.

@@TheGoldenBolt Very fair and very true; next to nobody knew or cared about it (despite it actually having been a PS Plus title when it launched); even I only spent a couple minutes on it in total when it was available. To be honest, you wouldn't really be missing anything without footage; as far as I can recall, they only appeared as still images (functioning more like profile icons than anything), with the screenshots on the PS Blog post for the crossover pretty much covering the full extent of the cameo.

You forgot that in Ratchet 2, Ratchet played Jak and Sly games on the main menu.

Trust me, I didn't forget! Since this video is about Ratchet in other games, rather than other characters in Ratchet, I left most of those out for the sake of keeping the video's pace as snappy as possible! (That's also why I've gotten a dozen comments about the potential Ratchet reference in Avengers: Endgame - I wasn't going for a comprehensive film list either, Paul Blart specifically just made for a fun way to wrap-up the video!)

@@TheGoldenBolt Yeah, the reason I brought it up is because you said Ratchet only had one Sly crossover, the playable demo.

In the movie, when Clank scans to see what species Ratchet is, an image of Sly and Daxter appear as well as the PS1 sound when captain Quork turns on the computer.

Huh I never knew Spider Man PS4 had a reference to Ratchet & Clank

You missed the most important reference of all. In the hit 2006 movie Spymate the chimp is playing Going Commando.

Also I wanted to mention that I believe there was a Ratchet Easter Egg in the Tree Tops level in Spyro Reignited that was forgotten. Can't remember the dragons name, but he reference is part of his staff. In Gnorc Cove, there were a few crates that do resemble the standard bolt crates from the R&C series.

Don't forget that in Avengers Endgame Tony calls Rocket "Ratchet" as a reference to this series

funnily most would likely still say Crash, despite him never actually being a Sony owned character ( Universal owned both Crash & Spyro in their PS1 heyday, then Vivendi before going to Activision ). Ratchet & Clank IMO would be the best fit for overall Playstation mascot....great series of platformers, popular, characters have the same universal appeal as Mario & Sonic....

@@mattkugelman4369 Let’s hope not. Insomniac have done a stellar job under Sony, though it has been filled with a lot of pain for the devs. Still, Rift Apart proved that the team was still capable of making an excellent R&C game without a time crunch.

I acually feel you could do a full video on Playstation all stars. Its exactly the type of game and drama(success of a game, devs problems and so on) you are specializing in.

Wished THPS 1+2 had Ratchet And Clank as playable characters for the PS4/PS5 version

Personally I think the Ratchet & Clank film is underrated. People were quick to hate it because "haha, video game movie=bad" even though one of the most critically acclaimed movies of the past couple years was a video game movie (that of course being Sonic the Hedgehog)

That is not why people hated it, it told the origins of the characters in a much poorer way that the first game.

6:20 Didn't even realize Game Crazy lasted till 2010. It was a cool store though! The one I went to had tournaments and stuff. But it was always paired with Hollywood Video, so it's easy to see why it died.

I never spent much time in Game Crazy, I think I only entered their stores like once or twice. Still a shame that they died off, of course, but I'd like to think the best of Game Crazy's employees eventually made their way to retro shops or even some GameStops.

Feel like ratchet playing jak and daxter, jak II, and sly cooper in the title screen of going commando should've been worth mentioning

I've this mentioned in comment replies elsewhere below, personally I don't feel that's a reference itself, at least not intentionally. That's why it's not included!

I'm not sure if anyone already said this but, in the movie of ratchet and clank when the screen showed clank scanning ratchet in the corner of the screen it showed a trinity crossover because it showed sly cooper in the style of his movie trailer and daxter.

Oh i remember when i booted up Ratchet & Clank 3 on my PS2 and i suddently played Sly 2 😅 I thought to myself that my game was broken haha

Here's a very very hard-to-catch R&C cameo in a movie! In the 2005 film, Zathura, there's a scene where one of the main characters is playing on his PS2, and among some discs left on top of his PS2, including Parappa 2 of all games, he actually has the disc for Going Commando!

In Resistance 3 at the end an enemy in Rachet and Clank a Crack in Time shows up as a toy in the ending cutscene. If you are paying attention to just before Capelli rocks up in the VETOL to a happy wife you see his son playing with a toy Hydra Battle Tank.

That's one of those smaller ones I vaguely mentioned at the end of the Resistance section, I just didn't want to jump to the very end of the final game to show it off and risk spoilers! (Plus I don't have my R3 save so I'd have had to beat the entire game again, a la Japanese Ape Escape 3!)

If it exists, I've never seen it! Or at least I've totally forgotten it. It could exist in certain versions of the game, say the PAL copies for example, perhaps?
