Rassie Erasmus - Ahead of his time
Спорт
Johan "Rassie" Erasmus was the second famous son from Despatch in the Eastern Cape. He quickly made a name for himself in the mid 90's when he started to feature regularly for the Freestate rugby team.
After going on tour with the Springboks at the end of 1996, Rassie finally made his Springbok debut against the British & Irish Lions in the 3rd test in 1997. He would go on to make the no.6 jersey his own for the next four years and played his final test for the Boks in 2001. He will be remembered for the balance he brought to the loose trio of himself, Andre Venter and Gary Teichman.
Rassie went on to coach the Cheetahs to their first Currie Cup win in 29 years after they upset the Bulls at Loftus in 2005. He went on to WP and the Stormers where his impact was also felt and for the last couple of years he has been involved with SA Rugby.
Thanks for the memories Rassie, you are a true rugby legend!
Enjoy and thanks for watching!

And now he has two world cup medals!!!! Thank you Rassie for saving SA Rugby 5 years ago
And he is an even better coach than he was a player! All the best to Rassie and the team today!!!
And tonight, after coaching the Boks for a year and a half, Rassie lead South Africa as coach to a world cup victory. He is truly a remarkable man.

Great video. Rassie was a rugby hero on field. We tend to forget that. And became a sharp analyst while being a pkayer which set him up to be the world cup winning coach we know now.
Nothing but respect for this great Bok player and coach. Wobbly Wallaby supporter.

Johan "Rassie" Erasmus two time World Cup winning director of rugby and coach.
He never ever uses the word kwota or colour, he is Cunning, Smart and his biggest talent is to put believe in a person/player, will never forget how he went about beating that mighty bulls in the Currie Cup Final with their 11 springboks of who 8 played in the 2007 winning world cup team with his Freestate team in his first year as full time coach. To think this man only took control 18 months ago - a team that lost against Pofadders u13A and now that team ( 85% of it )is in the 2019 WC final, just think what if he had this team for 4 years.

Bradley Gaju I take it you mean “Afrikaners”? And no, it has everything to do with politics. When players are not selected based on merit, morale is affected. It’s the same in any area of life. If you are overlooked for a promotion based on your nationality ( I use this as a case in point seeing that you so eagerly blame Afrikaners), then you my dear friend will lose confidence in the structures and either start underperforming, or pack your bags and go somewhere else. Every single rugby decision in SA has to be weighed politically: from medical staff to luggage master to coaching staff to management to players to ticket prices to development in previously disadvantaged communities to referees etc. The SA rugby swamp must be drained. It’s hard enough to beat NZ with your best 23 and best supporting personnel/structures. One weak link will be exposed. There are many many many great players of colour that deserve to play SR and TR. But you can’t put a 45% number on it. You can’t select a coach who is not the best candidate. You can’t have clowns in senior positions who can’t even balance a chequebook let alone do succession planning. It is all politics in SA rugby.
