Rashaad Penny - NFL Highlights (Through Full 2021 Season)

This is the first chapter of Rashaad Penny's NFL career. From minor injuries nagging him in his first two seasons here and there, to the major, devastating knee injury at the end of his second season (which pretty much wiped out his third season), to some minor, nagging injuries that slowed him down in the first half of the 2021 season, to the breakout performances over the last 5 weeks of that season, this is his story.
From record setting years at San Diego State playing for the Aztecs, to Seattle and never giving up, never backing down, despite critics calling him a bust. Penny has become one of the best backs in the league. Check out these highlights!

Even before his productivity explosion over the last 5 weeks of the 2021 season he showed flashes of that great ability and running style. He's been great all along, just injured too often in the past. Now he's healthy and showing that he is one of the best backs in the league, and making a strong case for #1.

Thank you for these wonderful highlights, Erik. I am a huge SDSU fan and therefore a Penny fan (he's the only thing I will watch in the NFL any more). He reminded to so much of Marshall Faulk when we was an Aztec (and I never dreamed I would see another Faulk in red and black). I am so happy to see Rashaad stay health to show the world the enormous talent that he is. Good person, too.

Vision with very quick feet in tight spaces, and then a burst that is surprising for his size. He was also a great kick returner in college - I was surprised they never used him there. He's improved greatly in pass protection. Here's hoping he has a big season in 2022.

I saw those plays as they happened, so when I found the clips I made sure to include them. Blocking on passing plays is an important part of what a running back does. He wasn't a great blocker early on in his career, but he took the constructive criticism to heart and worked hard to improve in that area. And he really improved! Enough that those blocks were legit highlights!

Check the stats when Penny gets 10+ carries in a game. Sample size big enough to say if he stays healthy and gets work, he WILL be one of the best, most productive backs in the League. First round talent at RB means he’s special. Just gotta put it together.

I just saved this so I can watch it over and over again. I was lucky enough to get Aztec season tickets for Penny's senior season at SDSU. His game against Nevada was truly memorable as he returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns. I was so disappointed when he got hurt in preseason as a rookie and never got a chance to start for years because he kept getting hurt and Carson was doing a good job. It's gratifying that Penny is validating his stature as one of the best backs in the NFL. Now I'm excited to see if the 'Hawks will re-sign him or if Penny will go south and sign with the Bolts or the Rams. On 4:14 and 4:28 Penny is tackled by ex-Aztec Damontae Kazee.

  • @erikrupp692

Yeah, I noticed both of those tackles, and both times they get together after the play. And both times Penny took quite a hit and got up with a very slight limp (which he would walk off each time). Kazee is the real deal! San Diego State players are the real deal!

Every single game in his career where penny got at least 12 carries he went over 100 yds rushing. That's God tier level production. If the man could stay healthy for the entire season and get 15-25 touches per game, he could potentially have the greatest statistical season of all time for a running back. As a 49er fan I hope not but as a fantasy team owner I'm rooting for the man.

@@stfugoawaylol Fuck if I know. Seahawks were always run heavy with Russell Wilson. Now they got Geno Smith and they're throwing 40-50 times per game like they have Drew Brees? Wtf?!?!? Meanwhile, in weeks 1-3 Penny got 32 carries. Not per game... Total. RBs need to get into a rhythm and wear down the defense over time. 10 carries spread over 4qtrs. ain't enough. But see what happened when Penny got 17 touches instead of 10? He went bananas with only 1-2 more carries every quarter. Imagine if they gave him 25-30 carries, he would put up RB1 numbers every week.

  • @Jeremiah2304

Penny's strongest attribute is his vision and the way he sees the field. To be able to cut back in the NFL is not an easy task, and he makes it look effortless. If he was slightly faster and had a stronger core he could be a top 5-10 back in the league next season with him being #1 on the depth chart.

Penny looks to be on a similar path to Marshawn Lynch. Granted, Lynch had more success early in his career than Penny did, but going into Lynch's 4th season his career looked to be in question. He was traded to Seattle later that season and seemed to turn things around by the end of the year. He was then reborn as Beast Mode and went on to have 4 consecutive dominant seasons as the focal point of the offense for a Super Bowl winning team. Penny revived his career late in year 4 and is entering year 5. Lets see if he can keep it all together and go on a run.

I really think his touch count has a lot to do with that. There’s a lot of times where he won’t see a carry until the 3rd quarter. Running backs will tell you when you’re not warm and you get thrown out there you’re bound for tweaks. And I think his left leg wasn’t as strong and he kept pushing it. Now he’s fully healthy

The run blocking WAS fantastic - and Penny made the most of it. I don't think anyone in the league could have done any better. His total yards, touchdowns, and yards per carry over that 5 week stretch was elite. One of the best 5 game stretches in the last 20 years.
