    I live in a small town, and the bank employees watch for star notes, old bills, and some oddities for me. They are wonderful to do this, but it got to the point where I think I got every last star note in the county, Now they pull out the old small portrait bills, even 50's and 100's and a couple silver certificates for me. They are all worn considerably but I only pay face value. It's fun. The 100's remind me of being a kid, where the only large bills I ever saw were in my dad's wallet.

    I like Franklin on the currency. Not just because it is $100. Franklin was a scientist, diplomat, inventor, signer of the declaration of independence, and printer. Related to money then Hamilton being the first Secretary of the Treasury scores him some big points. I like how he looks on the money. Washington always is nice to look at along with Jefferson. Abe looks grouchy and boring and sort of like an ape, I love the backside of the $2 with the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Grant on the fifty doesn't make my knees shake and he looks like an alcoholic. The $20 is for me the most common bill to see Americans with (at the currency place I work at) and I like how Old Hickory (Jackson) tried to kill the banks (on his gravestone), how he survived an assassination attempt (probably by the banks), and how he even was in a duell, but the note is not my favorite. It looked better when it was still a small portrait note. Man can I ramble.

    I have been collecting quarters, some states but, mainly the 'historic places' & buildings, etc. (The ones that encase the 'picture' & details by a circle around the edge)! However, I received this old 10.note from an ATM recently & my son had noticed it was the older version (sm. face)so, he told me to hold onto it. I did! This is the first time looking at it & seeing it's 1977! I thot I'd look it up. You were my 1st stop! It's not in the best condition - but I'd say- about like your 'roughest', with all due respect : ) My question 2 U is, are those 'sleeves' actually made for bills; & where could I get them? & I think I have a new addition to my collection of coins! Interesting & nostalgic. Thanks! J♡¥

    Depends on condition. In perfect condition $10-$15. Also if it has a star on it, or if the serial number is a fancy serial number this can all increase the value.

    Thanks for your videos! I enjoy them. I have an old coin collection...but some currency too. I just found a 1999 $10 bill BA 16061235 A and it's very crisp like not too worn at all. The back looks like darker inking on the right side. Is that common because of oil in ppl's hands coming out of cash registers? The cut is a bit higher cut above too. Not sure if worth keeping?

    A1 is the district Boston, Massachusetts. The serial number is not considered a fancy serial number, and the mischt bills were much more common back then. Although collectible value is small (maybe $11-12). I would keep it because they are getting tougher to find. The inking sounds interesting. Would have to see a photo on my twitter account to better judge. You did a great job describing the bill.

    Oils from the fingers. I think that might be a myth. Narrators point out wrinkles, folds, tears, marker stains, coffee stains, etc, but no one points out oils from bare fingers. Any thoughts?

  • @ExpatriateAmerikaner

    @ExpatriateAmerikaner

    4 жыл бұрын

    Bill Stotts I think the fatty acids from fingers could be absorbed by the bill and if it retained enough dirt then maybe it would eventually damage the paper quality or stain it. No proof, just a gut feeling. Would be fun to do an experiment. I don’t think from one exposure that anything would happen. Unless you sweat in the hands like me.

  • @ExpatriateAmerikaner

    @ExpatriateAmerikaner

    6 жыл бұрын

    No. Alexander Hamilton is all tens going back to the 1930's. The only difference is that the 2009 series has color on it. The last Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew said that the Treasury wanted to switch out Hamilton maybe with someone else, but the new Secretary Treasury has said there are more important things to do then switch out who appears on the nation's cash.

    The sleeves in the video are what I would call rigid. I bought them from a coin dealer in Minnesota and he promised me that they were without Mylar. He claimed they were from Supersafe. When I bought Supersafe holders online they were semi-rigid (the plastic is a little softer and not so rigid). I know these are 100% musuem quality Mylar sleeves. Here is the where I get them off Ebay... 100 SuperSafe MODERN Archival Mylar Museum Grade Currency Sleeves Holder MG440 The seller is called lone-star-coin

    Theoretically a store can deny payment if they weren't sure if these were real. You might run into trouble since they are so new that some cashiers would think they are counterfeit, or if the cashier is a young kid they might have never even seen this money and would have to call a manager or the Police. It could get ugly.

    I am sorry to inform you that this note is not a star note, does not have a fancy serial number, and is probably not worth more than a few Dollars over face (if in pristine condition). With this said I would like to say that these notes are rare to find in circulation and with time they may go up in value. I would probably keep it for the sentimental value, but most would spend it and that would be okay. Good luck and if you have any questions just reach out to me. Thanks for commenting and being on my channel.

  • @ExpatriateAmerikaner

    @ExpatriateAmerikaner

    Germans who are finnicky about everything (including notes from past vacations) come in and want Euros or ask for new notes. If I am there I kindly oblige and buy the notes for the company and put them to the side and purchase them myself, or I switch them out at face value for new USD notes and then buy them. The only crappy part is that I pay 10% over face and if I buy over $100 from my company then I pay only 5% over face. I am literally sometimes paying to work there. But it is worth it with the finds I make.

    Sorry binary is when the serial number consists of just two numbers. Your note has 3's, 4's 0's, and 1's. It is not even a trinary and I would probably spend it unless you like it an want to hold on to it. No premium. Sorry.
