Rare Michael Greger talk - Mad Cow Disease - from 2001

I recorded this talk more than two decades ago when Dr. Greger came for a visit to Santa Monica, California - and spoke about the then-ongoing issue of Mad Cow Disease. Curious to see a Michael Greger talk from 20 years ago? Look no further!

Dr. Greger knows a LOT more about the direction the pandemic-terror state is headed than what he casually talks about these days. He spoke on it quite a bit more publicly back in 05-08 timeframe - this is a super throwback clip, I’m guessing you’re the only one who had it.

Thanks for posting this classic! I believe this is Dr. Greger’s real passion, but the average self-obsessed, myopic person ignores his warnings. These days he gets a lot more traction writing and talking about longevity and weight loss. Either way, he is definitely getting folks to reconsider their diets, so I suppose it’s all for the good.

Thanks for posting this Jeff. Dr. G has been a great source of info for decades. I look forward to his lecture circuit resuming after this current pandemic...yet another pandemic that he forecast years ago.

I was never concerned about mad cow disease when I consumed meat, although I am very grateful for Dr. Greger's work in fighting for health with a side benefit of being friendly to animals.

20 years ago. How time flies. I like the beard. The 2 big benefits for me are that veganism makes it easier to keep excess weight off, and it makes pooping more frequent, which feels healthier.

I was just about to say the same. This is a superb clip. But Vegsource is always flip flopping who he wants to support and why. I think supporting Dr Klaper now as well as Dr Mcdougall. The nut debacle was a complete nonsence and waste of time.

@Bill T simply put Bill, they are fine in moderation and if you don't have heart disease (see Dr Esselstyn for explanation). Moderation means the palm of your hand. And if you avoid eating processed oils then even better because nuts and oils contain omega 6. Whilst we need omega 6 we can easily consume too much (especially in processed foods inc vegan processed foods). This will in turn cause too much inflammation in the body. So if you are strategic with no oils and nut consumption along with consuming omega 3s such as flax seeds, chia seeds and walnuts you will be balancing out the omegas (see Dr Brooke Goldner about the information on the power of omega 3s) and doing your body a great service. Greens and nuts have the most nutrient dense foods on the planet . Olive oil doesn't have omega 6 but does have omega 9. Sadly it is still not advised to consume it processed (science has caught up with that new revelation) and eat olives whole. Don't get me wrong, nuts have a high nutrient profile that's excellent but they are calorie dense and high in fat, "good fat", but regardless you can eat too much of them (see Dr Lisle video re calorie density). If you have heart disease then it advised that you don't eat them if you are trying to reverse disease because of the inflammation that is already out of control. Hope that helps.
