Halictidae is the second largest bee family having over 4500 species and are commonly called sweat bees and are attracted to sweat, mostly harmless but will sting if squished

Yep, native bee species. Poor things, they are being squeezed-out slowly by the imported European honey bees. We love them for the honey they produce, but they are not native to North America. Many native bee species are important pollinators, so it helps them out to provide them with bee-boxes of their own.

Great spot about 40 minutes away from my location. Just be ULTRA CAREFUL... rattlesnakes are beginning to come out of their holes and they LOVE hanging out under and around those prickly pear cactus, especially in the morning and evenings. My friends dog got nailed last year that way. Stay safe stay AWARE!

The best time to find them is before sunrise or just as the sun sets. Some say after dark is the best, but I like searching for those dark black glass crystals on a cloudy day. But that is the exact spot to find them. I hope you didn't leave without searching and finding some.

Hi Bryan. This video was really interesting. When you showed that large boulder toward the end that had the big seam, are you not allowed to use your rock pick to knock a piece off? I also have a problem telling the difference between calcite and chalcedony. Experience I guess. The differently colors and shapes were beautiful. Again, I’m sorry I’ll have to miss out on buying some but thems the rules in our house right now. Thank you again for a great, informative video. A lot of bending so I’m sure you need some rest. On to the next adventure!

2:37 Those are sweat bees. They are found in lots of places but are mostly seen in deserts where they find it best to source their electrolyte/saline rich water from the surface of your skin. They hurt pretty bad when they sting. I've accidentally trapped them between my legs and arms when going about my normal business, so I'm very familiar with these little buggers.

You probably would be very wary when looking at holes in the ground in the Arizona desert as there could be scorpions or black widow spiders or even snakes. Also some types of lizards can live in those small holes. I live in the Mohave Desert in Arizona and always am careful even in my yard.
