Rare Experimental KABAR M7 Bayonet... or is it?
In the 1970s Rock Island Armory experimented with a new style of M7 bayonet for the M16 family of rifles. The experimental bayonet had the blade of the MK2, 1219C2, USMC fighting knife, commonly referred to as the KABAR knife. It's handle was leather washers, like the KABAR, but it had the barrel loop and lock of the M7 bayonet. Very few of these knives were made and there is precious little information about them. Some of the information that does exist is not very helpful, even highly trusted sources like M.H. Cole's Book III. Let's take a look at our sample and try to determine if it is real or not.

Gd vid thx. We appreciate your candor. Most people would not admit to being duped and certainly we all will benefit from these experiences. As an avid bayonet collector I typically avoid investing in replicas, but I do find that example appealing as a display item. Nice MK-2 sheath find.
