Rare & Expensive Sega Saturn Games
Ойындар
The Saturn library is a vast collection of unique games that span 1000+ entries across all regions. Many of these games are affordable and very much worth owning physical copies of. There are however some games that cost quite a bit, and here we take a look at some them.

Episode Notes:
1. Prices are ballpark as of this listing. They can go up and down quite a bit in a short amount of time.
2. General discussions like this rarely take into account the fact that some games can mean more to certain people. I question no one's reasoning behind paying a high price for a game. These are my opinions for me, and me alone.
3. A part 2 could cover the vast library of shoot'em ups and fighting games I didn't cover here. I'd love to do it if the interest is there.
4. As per usual, all games on real hardware via RGB.
5. Yes, Dragon Force really is that good. At least burn a copy of it or fire up in an emulator if you have never played it before.

So glad I was a Saturn fan back when the system was still on shelves. I own a nice selection of these rare games, and paid only $10-$56 (with tax) to buy them. Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Rangers, Magic Knight Rayearth, all $56 (with tax), and definitely the rarest games I own. Dragon Force and Guardian Heroes, probably $35 (with tax), my friend left Saturn Bomberman (just the disc) at my house, and then stopped talking to me, and never asked for it back, so I got it for free. Looking forward to a part 2 in this series.
I’ve still got my Saturn and games i loved and played back in the 90’.
Quite happy that I still have my copies of Shining and the Holy Ark, Guardian Heroes and Panzer Dragoon Saga. Wish I had bought Dragon Force all those years ago though.
Very happy to have been a Saturn owner in the '90s. I have a very healthy collection of the majority of what folks ga-ga over, but at a fraction of the modern cost. Oh, for the days when stacks of Guardian Heroes were on clearance at Toys R Us for $5 a piece, and they even still had NES stuff on clearance at the same time...

I remember when the X-box 360 first came out ,everything was so cheap! I had seen a Turbo Grafix with a stack of games for like $35 at a goodwill! And nintendo game were $1 a piece!
Thankyou sega lordx i added a sega saturn with a terraonion mode, an action replay cart, a levelhike hdmi upscaler 256gb sd card, a retrobit sega saturn controller and a virtua arcade stick to boot. All thanks to your videos! Even though i had no experience with a sega saturn as a kid in the 90s it is now my favorite video game console of all time! Its going to provide my daughter and i memories for years to come! Thankyou so much for your content segalordx!!
I have binge watched almost all of your videos. You definitely have quality content 👍 keep it up!
The "Working Designs tax" was quite notorious even back 20 years ago. Everything they released seemed to shoot up in price within a few months due to low and short print runs.
Most of my Saturn games i paid under 40 USD. The most expensive was the US version of Sega Ages Volume 1 costing me about 93 dollars shipped. Those prices are from four years ago. I use to spend kinda crazy money on retro video games especially the ones i had as a kid. I pretty much have all the physical retro games i want titles i will enjoy and appreciate for years to come. Great video as always.
Ha! I have the Working Designs Sega Ages (purchased it back when they released it) and also have each individual game from Japan (purchased much later) just because I am insane. Also I had no idea there was a longbox version of Virtua Fighter Remix.

@@SegaLordX Where can I get the English translations of Shining Force 3 that I believe you had in one video? I would love the entire trilogy in a complete set instead of settling for just part one.
Surprising that "Virtua Fighter: Remix" is $200 or more for a long box copy. I recently got a "not for resale" copy in a standard CD jewel case for only $40, and both the case and disc were in good condition. And before you ask, no. It wasn't the Japanese version. It was an American copy.
Topic is certainly worthy of another episode. Thanks for the research and production, Sega Lord X.
First time I ever heard of that bicycle crazy taxi looking game. Looks fun as hell
Dragon Force is truly a gem, I still have my original copy, never sold it, and don't plan on selling it unless i got an insane amount lol

I sold my entire system back when the xbox came out to my best friend. I told him to save it because it was special. I knew it would be worth a fortune one day. Had die hard arcade and dragon force and a few other gems. Man i wish I kept that thing. But i have a new console but as im not wealthy i wont be getting those gems again.
Some of the games you mentioned like Power Slave or SOTN, I can't believe they hiked the fuck up prices overtime. They were fairly cheap something like between $45 to $65 pre-internet talks about them, this is amazing.
This makes me so glad I hoarded every Saturn game I could in the late 90s early 2000s.
I picked up Frankenstein for £2 when the Saturn was fading. I'm glad I didn't pay any more for it! I could never really figure out what was going on in that game, but good to see it's a good investment.
My mom worked as a cell phone dealer (this was early 90s so it was a big deal then) in 2 different malls. One of her stores was right next to an "Electronics Boutique" the other was 3 stores down from a "Software ETC". Needless to say, when I'd have to go with her when she worked night shift, and stay as a kid I'd be in those stores and the arcades. I eventually pre-ordered a dreamcast in 1998 but I had the Saturn before. Marcus was the name of the manager at the Software ETC and he told me to wait a week and the Saturn games would be cheap. Well, they were. I got so many games for ~$100 (My lawn mowing money). I even had doubles of some titles. About a month after that, Marcus came into my mom's store with another one of his guys with a rolling cart and 2 big cardboard boxes. They were full of Saturn games. He asked me if I wanted them and to give him an offer. We left that day with all those games for $150. I had to borrow money from my mom. I guess they weren't selling even on closeout, so he just took what he could for them since they were already considered a loss. There was every rare game in there you could think of. I still have 10 sealed copies of PDS from that day. MKR, MMX4, MM8, etc... This story isn't a unique one either. These games aren't that rare. People just hoard them and mess with the "market".
Another key strategy for collectors is to be patient when scouring Ebay for finds. Every once in a while, you will find a rare title for a very low price that somehow gets ignored by bidders. I also recommend buying “disc only” titles, whoch may be notably cheaper. I bought a disc copy of Worldwide Soccer 98 for $10, while the boxed copy goes for $40. If you see a bargain like that, go for it. Finally, don’t forget that CD-R is an option, especially for super rare classics like Powerslave. Keep looking to collect your library, but don’t miss out on playing old videogames. This also applies to fan translations such as Shining Force 3 Trilogy, Policenauts and Sakura Wars.
Awesome video, yes, part 2!!!
That sound effect in courier crisis is in another game. I can't think what it is right now.

Thank for that man. I need to hear it sometimes.
Kinda surprised Deep Fear didn't make the last section. The PAL version (there isn't a US version) is bonkers expensive, but the cheap Japanese version has dialogue and most menus in English, so it's very playable.
Resellers helped sparked the expensive prices we see today for consoles like the Saturn, the PC Engine, and the SNES. They are also slowly doing it for the Genesis too.
Couldn't agree more , if I'm paying that kind of money it better be fun. Great video as always
Don't forget *Hyper Duel* - a beyond perfect arcade port (with extra stuff for home). It's a horizontal shooter by Technosoft, I believe their 2nd or 3rd arcade title, and the Saturn port feels really beefy and powerful, like a thoroughbred arcade shmup from the era. Has the legendary developer's typically stylish menus, HUD, and overall strong level, weapon, and enemy design. Worth tracking down.
Wow I bought that same version of Virtua Fighter Remix for $12 complete at a local retro store about 2 years back. Had no idea it jumped up in price.
love your channel man ; keep up the good work :]
Yesssss Dragon Force and Guardian Heroes were my absolute favorite. I honestly never see those on anyone's top list especially DF.
Guardian heroes was also rereleased for the 360/XONE and ps3

And it’s like $5
Yes, please do a part 2 to this video. I really enjoyed it. I wasn't able to get a Saturn as a kid because it was so expensive ( lol, my father just laughed at me when he seen how much the Saturn cost) but my wife got me one a couple of years ago CIB no less for a great price and so finally I can experience this legendary library of games. I actually stumbled upon Sega Ages at my local retro game shop last year and got it along with Panzer Dragoon 1 and 2 all CIB and in mint condition for well under market. Sega Ages is the pride of my Saturn collection and a fantastic game but it is most definitely not worth spending $200 on. I picked up a replay ram card and I'm fixing to start importing since the PAL and Japanese versions are far more reasonable in price........mostly.
*Guardian Heroes* - like so many Treasure games - is best known for its amazing 2D character control, super precise collision/hitboxes/ability interaction, creative enemies and boss encounters, and outstanding co-op play. The 6-player vs. mode with a massive roster of playable characters that you unlock in the campaign is a sweet cherry on top, and the game's multi-plane 2D adds immensely to the strategy in this battle mode. If your first GH experience was on Xbox using the Xbox 360 controller's absolutely disgusting d-pad, you didn't quite enjoy it as intended - and your perception of control and gameplay was likely compromised.
At one point these were in a bin for a few dollars.

Because that's what they're actually worth. Very few of these games are "rare", pricing has absolutely nothing to do with rarity. Just look at what happened to Earth Bound. It was sitting at around 600$ a game, and then rocketed into the ground and isn't even worth 50$ anymore. Resellers are absolute garbage.

Waiting for part 2! Always greats videooo
Sega Saturn is so damn cool!!!!! Thank you for doin all those vids!!!
Great vid! Please do a part 2 as there a bunch of other games you missed. Some games I'd like to see covered include; Winning Post, Battle Sport, Maximum Force, Megaman X3 (PAL), Dragonball Z The Legend (PAL), Three Dirty Dwarves, Herc's Adventures, and Batman Forever The Arcade Game.
*The Shining Force 3 trilogy* is wonderful. Great for any SRPG fan, and orgasmic for fans of the series. There's also a superb fan translation for Chapter 2 and 3.
Those two FMV he software disks are actually fantasy games now. They show you respectable homes you could actually buy as a working class.
I really would love to see a part 2
Great video SLX! Thank you
I need a part 2. Like tomorrow.
Great video! You gota do a part 2!!!!
Great video. Some weird and wonderful crazy prices. Some people have more money than sense lol
Fun video should definitely revisit for a round 2
Great video I loved Sega Saturn and Sega Cd
I'm a Sega Saturn gamer and collector. I really hope you do another part to your Rare and Expensive Sega Saturn Game video. There were other Sega Saturn games that sold late in the Saturn life, especially 4 games I know of that Sega knew they were going to sell at a limited number of those games and sold at a higher price. Those games included Shining Force 3 (Scenario 1. Scenario 2 & 3 were never sold in the US), Burning Force, Magic Knight Rayearth (I enjoyed this game a lot, especially part where you find "embarrassing" images of one helpful character on the game) and Panzer Dragoon Saga (which I believe is currently the most expensive of the final four games). Chances are you may find these games out there at a more reasonable prices in either Garage Sales, Swap Meets or Flea Markets as an alternative to eBay. I'm just saying.
I liked it, I'd enjoy a part 2
Best Sega channel in history, easily
I'd love to see a part 2
Holy crap! I'm glad I got a hold of Sega Ages before the price reached $200. I have just the game in the jewel case, but I know how to play these games. :)

Yes, do another one like this soon!
In a world where we can easily and effectively emulate Saturn games with official Saturn controllers no less buying any of these games is less about pursuing quality titles and more about collecting artefacts. As a previous collector I remember how addicting that next high could be in completing a library. That being said, Dragon Force is the best Sega Saturn game for sure.

In a strange way, collectors have ruined the once-fun hobby of collecting due to chasing up prices to ridiculous levels. Now I just want to play the games and I don't care about what I have on my shelf anymore.

10 Years ago i heard about a 3D Platformer on the Saturn called Ninpen Manmaru (i was not collecting japanese titles at these times) and the only copy on ebay was a package with 3 copies of the game for 35$. 2 of them new. A year ago i checked some of my Games i didnt knew how much they were worth. I could not believe my Eyes :D
I can't argue with guardian heroes. That games is worth a ton more. One of best games ever made.

The multiplayer on it with the all characters cheat code made for some funny crazy times
Until watching this video I had no idea how good a deal I got when I purchased “Shining the Holy Ark” complete with case and instruction manual off of Amazon for $24 back in 2010!
My last saturn blew up in 98. Was a sad day, athlete kings ( I think it was called) was one of my favourites
I regret not buying a lot of these games in 2010. My local game store had them for about 5-40 bucks. I did snag marvel superheroes, die hard arcade and Virtua cop 2.
Frankenstein is an incredible adventure game! I want what you're smokin!
Good job on this brother.
Another great Saturnformation video
Boy, have prices skyrocketed just after a year this was made. I wish some of these went for these prices now. Lol.
Also worth mentioning: these games can sometimes be purchased for other formats, legally, for a lot less money. Radiant Silvergun is a good example... it runs better and is substantially cheaper on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. That's not feasible for some games, like Magic Knight Rayearth and Psychic Killer Toramaru, but it's an option that's worth exploring.
Rare & Expensive Sega Saturn Games: The entire US collection minus like five games.

There are a lot of perpetual commons and ones that no cares or hears about that go for $50 or less CIB, certainly loose. Practically anything good in this range are like first party Sega games.
Great video man keep up the good work 👍 I was kinda hoping to see Panzer Dragoon Saga here on this list but Im glad you're making part 2
I bought a used Saturn less than a year ago together with a cartridge that allows you to play burned copies of CD. Just to play Dragon Force and Dracula X Akumajou. I had a lot o fun.
part 2 would be great!
It was thanks to this video that I got Megaman X2 on the cheap. The US version is stupid expensive but the jp release in the box and manual was only $50. I did just as the lord commanded. I read a FAQ to know what the story was.

I got pretty lucky with mega man x4. There was a guy at a convention that had it in his bargain bin. It was marked $14. So I paid for it and went on my merry way. Great channel btw. Love the content.
Man.... Part 2 please 👍😁😁
One of your finest videos to date in my opinion. PLEASE do a part 2!
The hard part of watching these videos is that I owned a few of these games( I had Dracula X the first version that I played and beat in Japanese.),Guardian Heroes and Marval Super Heroes. I guess it's better to have owned then to have never owened.
😅😅Thank the lord for Yaba Sanshiro and the Nvidia Shield 2017!! No way in hell would i ever pay anything close to those asking prices, but your video is ultra informative as always👌🏾👌🏾👏🏽👏🏽
A part 2 is needed. You teased Panzer Dragoon Saga but no official mention. Also Burning Rangers is a good one.
Really enjoyed this and features like this are why i started to buy only Japanese games for my Saturn. Thank you slx
Battlesport could be a good candidate for this series. It has recently been selling for $700-$1000 due to its rarity.
Awesome videos like always 👍
You forgot Elevator Action Returns... Such a fantastic game, I don't know why I decided to sell my copy 15 years ago.
Great Video!! Please do more of these SLX! As these serve a greater purpose of exposing games that are overpriced and definitely help the uninformed when buying. Since the Saturn will likely remain a pricey system to collect for years to come.. Hopefully someone with authority wises up and, We finally gat a Saturn Mini to help aleviate the CRAZY prices! One can dream afterall..
Awesome video as always. Besides other regions, you can get some of the games on other systems too. I.E Guardian Heroes sells on the Xbox 360/XBOX one BC digitally for $15. Same for Radiant Silvergun. The only games that I still own on this compilation are Sega Ages and Powerslave. I used to own Guardian Heroes but sold it long ago before the prices got crazy. I kick myself every day for not getting Panzer Dragoon Saga for $50 when I had the chance.
Oh and another interesting video....keep up the good work.
Excellent episode!! This is the best "pricing guide" episode I have ever seen and you're honest no b.s. approach to telling it how it is a breath of fresh air!! Totally agree with you across the board on all opinions expressed. MORE, more episodes of this type would be awesome!! Cheers, SLX! 🤘
I enjoyed it. Please make another. I paid most for my PAL Street Fighter Collection...
Looking forward to part 2. 🦄🦄🦄
I always love hearing about the kind of things you put into your "THE TRULY STRANGE" category. So little of that sort of thing ever happened outside of Japan, so it's always fascinating to hear about it.
I really enjoyed your channel
I had two systems with a lot of games that right now would go for good money. Those two systems were the Atari Jaguar and tge Sega Saturn. I actually had Powerslave, Steep Slope Sliders, Christmas Nights and bunch hard to find ganes complete. I almost had the entire Jaguar library still in the box and complete including the Jag CD. To buy all that now would need financing.
looking forward to part 2
This is such a great channel, great content and highly informative 👌
This is why I'm considering buying a pseudo saturn cart, I want hyper duel, but that price...I know it's an awesome game, and if I was doing better in life I'd probably spend that money, but when I can buy a pseudo saturn cart and then a repo for 10 bucks, it makes you think, I also want to play Policenauts English translation and that would require a pseudo cart anyway. I think if you make a part 2 you should mention this, as it still means you're running the games on actual hardware.
Fascinating stuff SLX, looking forward to a part 2 👍
I’ve still got my HOTD and every other light gun game ever released in the U.K. I’d forgotten i had Sega Ages until i dug out my Saturn just before last Christmas
I generally agree with the ones worth buying. Surprised you didn't mention Panzer Dragoon Saga, but showed a video of it
