Hey man thanks for reacting to this! You're awesome brother! Peter Rivera, the lead singer/drummer is my father and I'm going to send this to him. He'll love it! You would be amazed how many times he got the reaction of "what? Those guys were white?!?" when they heard them perform. You want to hear a fun one... Check out Kanye's song "Fade" from his Life of Pablo album. The whole track is my dad's voice singing "I feel it fade..." They sampled his voice only from his Rare Earth track "(I know I'm) Losin You". Love how music can bring people together!

Previously signed all-white acts before Rare Earth includes The Rustix, The Dalton boys and The Underdogs. However, the main difference is Rare Earth had multiple BIG hits as oppose to the previous mentioned acts.

Hey man, thats CalJam. I grew up a few miles from the Ontario motor speedway but I was too young to go to either Cal Jams or US festivals. U should watch and listen to Emerson Lake and Palmer's You turn me on at Cal Jam. You can actual see the talent and magic rushing out of Greg. He just sits there all by himself, chewin gum, all coked out, playin his guitar and singing like he was in his local bar on a Tuesday afternoon.. Talk about Mr. Steal your girl, Pfft!

April 6th 1974..... What a great time to be a teenager !! The California Jam was held at the now defunct Ontario Motor Speedway. Rare Earth was the opening act Starting at 10:00 in the morning. We got there at 10:00 pm the night before. There were 8 acts in all including Earth,Wind, and Fire, The Eagles, Seals and Crofts, Black Oak Arkansas, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and the night ended about 11PM with Emerson Lake and Palmer. Great show with about 300,000 + very mellow & high young people.

I was there. 15 years old and up front by stage right. The drummer here, Peter Hoorelbeke (a.k.a. Peter Rivera) started the set by saying "Top of the mornin' to ya!" Earth, Wind and Fire played after them. Incredible!

I saw them in an old small dance ballroom venue from front row. It was sleeting outside & they played 2 extra hours. Steppenwolf was there, too. John Kay gave me his bottle to have a swig of whiskey❗️

Missed this concert by a month. Was mustered out of the navy, some friends and I had made plans to go but the ship I was on departed early for another WesPac cruise. Had no place to stay and had accrued leave money I didn't use and thought I'd better head home or piss it all away. I did that when I got home instead, so when I saw this on the news I coulda kicked myself !
