How good was Ida Presti? When she was only 13 years old she went to study with the master Segovia. After listening to her for five minutes, he got up and said theres nothing more he or anyone else could teach her and sent her home.

This is not surprising. Segovia had significant technical limitations, and took enormous liberties with tempo, and occasionally "rewrote" pieces composed for guitar to make them easier for him to play. No one called him on it during his lifetime, because after all, he was Segovia. There were many guitarists in Segovia's generation who were better than he was, but he was the only one of them who travelled extensively to promote the guitar, and so became synonymous with the instrument.

@@RobertoMartinez-kv5tp Yes, you are quite correct that Segovia encouraged and showcased the works of many guitar composers who would other wise have remained unknown. Ponce, as you mention, also Moreno-Torroba, Leo Brouwer, John Duarte, and many others. He also inspired established composers like Benjamin Britten and Lenox Berkeley to write for the guitar. Segovia's influence was immense. But he was not a good guitarist.
