Once again, a wonderful result. So many of your videos (but, I’ll admit, not all - everyone’s tastes differ after all) I’ve turned to my wife and said “I could give that house room” - I don’t need to say it any more, she just takes it as read. That piece makes me wish I lived down the road from you so I could bid on it, but I’m several thousand miles down the road in England, so I’ll have to be content with watching the transformation and seeing the resulting beauty that Nature and you have wrought together.

I am 85% completed with a Apple box with sliding slide to hold long match sticks. It is a gift for my new 74 yr old neighbor who is almost finished building his house and getting ready to move in next month. He is Sicilian and made a very large pizza oven in the corner of a large indoor room with a nice view of his back yard. Three of us neighbor's have been helping him build over the past year. I had done some trimming last summer on his neglected apple tree, hence some thick, 14" straight logs, which I slabbed and air dried. This summer I thought my thickness planner was getting dull but it was just the extra hard wood. I was going to make myself a box, but really don't want to ever work with apple wood again. It is beautiful, so I think I just need to forget about the labor before attempting another apple baby. LOL

Well the figure in that bowl alone was worth the effort! You also ended up with a beautiful shape to boot!! Nice one 😊. I have an old pear tree that has to come down next spring. It never grew very big, but I’m hoping I can get a few turnings from it. Very nice that you’re donating that bowl. We have a fundraiser coming up that I’ve been asked to donate something for a silent auction. Cheers, Rick

He moved on from small desktop-sized carvings to 10' tall, 5' wide "stumps" and high end luxury ski country fireplace mantels. Smashing piece Phil, lovely wood. I've a large piece of Apple with so many lumps and twisty lovely bits I just don't know where to start with it. I pop it my bench from time to time and look and dream and revel in it. And then put it away again still none the wiser on where to cut. First world problems for a woodturner I know . I also wanted to say Thank you Phil, I've learnt lots from watching you,. For example if I'm not using tailstock support I'll still often bring it and a live centre to the piece to create a registration mark to enable accurate centering if any problems arrive later. This has saved me on multiple occasions and you get the credit every time. Keep up the good work Phil :)
