Here is a rare cuckoo or quail clock made by Johann Baptist Beha & Sons circa 1900.
The clock is rare because of its large size, over 3'foot high and two feet wide.
It also has a exotic complication where the owner can choose between a cuckoo or a quail call with a lever on the bottom of the case.

Wow! I'm rather impressed by a cuckoo clock of this sort! It's also a bit spooky... I may have to commission a clock of this sort for my own with an interchangeable cuckoo and quail figure.

Probably a foot
Nowadays the gong and cuckoo or quil sounds are recorded and programmed in electronic circuit board of sound chips connected to speaker and installed in some quartz clocks that electronically reproduces the same sounds.

Mechanical cuckoo clocks are still manufactured to this day and I actually prefer those.
